Jason Verrett, Marion Grice start career on sideline

Jason Verrett and Marion Grice are starting out their careers off right by watching practice on the sideline. The team already knew of certain injuries for each of these players, but the fans of the San Diego Chargers have seen so many injuries in the past that this is an unwelcome site.

Verrett is expected to be ready to go for training camp. He was still able to put up some nice weight on the bench with the injury and he still is expected to mix with the guys soon. He is watching how things work in the San Diego system and hopefully he can get up to speed real fast.

There are a lot of expectations from Verrett going into the season.

Marion Grice has a lot of people in front of him on the depth chart and he will need to make an impression quickly. He will get a shot as a return specialist and will also get to show off his skills as a running back during training camp. He will need to recover from that foot injury quickly and make an impression on the staff.

Ernie: We cant be shocked. Reports of those injuries and Grice being injury prone were posted all over the place. But if you say anything, it’s negative. Also, be prepared that Verrett will not be ready to start any kind of practice for a bit as he just had surgery in March. Then after that, he is going to have to play catch up and get acclimated. This is very exasperating.

Sidenote: If you had any problems with the fires, please dont hesitate to ask. I am out in Lakeside. There are tons of folks out there that will help out.

Sidenote 2: I was driving down the street today in the heat and getting crabby. I saw this big freezer type truck driving down the street. On the back of the truck’s huge doors was a GIANT Charger’s Bolt. Omg, that made my day.

We don’t thank ya enough Ernie and the rest of the crew. Thanks for all your efforts.

    • Ernie Padaon

thank you… i definitely appreciate that.

      • Michael

Yea, thanks ernie,,, but can you figure out how to make the season get here faster?

  • tubbs45

Never noticed in that picture of Verrett. “Family” tattooed on the inside of his arm. I think with a little recovery time he (they) will no doubt be ready to BALL…

    • Ernie Padaon

      i agree with that… i didn’t notice that either… like the tat

  • Julien Bélair

    Grice will make the team

    • Diegoblue

      I agree ..

  • Julien Bélair

    Let’s be patient with them

Well at least the Chargers are being consistent. They don’t take chances with injuries, and by taking this stance, the Chargers are giving these young men the best chances of making the team and getting on the field.
90% of this game is from the neck up…sounds like they have time to reach out to vets, and get into the play book.

According to ESPN, Watt was lining up at Right Guard:

“Watt at right guard: Third-round pick Chris Watt was touted for his versatility, with an ability to play all three interior offensive line positions. However, Watt was lined up at right guard at rookie minicamp — the same position of Jeromey Clary, who is to make $4.55 million in total compensation in 2014. Watt lining up at right guard probably is not a coincidence.”

You could have told us about how well Cordarro Law looked out there. You could have made us all happy telling us that Chris Watt was practicing at RG? We already knew these guys are coming off of injury. More to the point-AJ is gone! #InTelescoWeTrust

    • Marcel West-Bailey

      Law isn’t a rookie

      • Daniel Sutter

But he is in attendance for the rookie camp…espn said he was standing out and especially quick looking off the edge…

        • Marcel West-Bailey

True but the most important thing in there was that Chris Davis stood out.

          • John Alton

I would be careful with Chirs Davis. He blew it big time in the BCS Championship. One play OK, nobody is perfect, but back to back plays. He could not cover Kelvin Benjamin and those are the types of recievers he will go up aginst in the NFL..

Nothing wrong with critically evaluating every aspect of your team. That is what Ernie is doing. You have to know all your strengths and weaknesses/problems at any given moment and plan for them.

  • Nutn Boltman

Not a good sign with the rookie Verret. He won’t really have an impact until next year.

    • Gunnar Martin

Dude he had a torn labrum, settle down. He’ll be ready by August.

      • Nutn Boltman

Wishful thinking Dude, wait till next year, drafting an injured player is a mistake …Think Dee Millner, D.J. Hayden….

        • blackroseMD1

19 reps of 225 pounds with a torn labrum. He’s gonna be fine this year. Dark horse DROY candidate.

Ernie, love your articles and, sorry to hear about the fire’s down there. I was born in San Diego ( also went to MCRD boot-camp and was in the Marines for 4 years.) My thought on the draft is very positive. 1. Verrett was the last/best corner available at 25 and we took him recovering from an injury ( last time I checked, a guy by the name of Keenan Allen was also injured when we drafted him.) I think he be a STUD! 2. Second pic Attachou………………really? We actually got this guy? He will be a MONSTER (Look out Peyton Manning.) Would actually like to see what Grice and Reese do in pre-season and hope that they at least land on special teams…………. BOLT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Stefanie Smith

The difference with Verrett vs Allen: Allen wasn’t picked first round

      • BruisingChargers

Stef, if you re-read my post, I said that KA was also injured when we took him. I never said KA was drafted in the first rd last year (look how he turned out last year.) What I meant was that even tho Verrett is injured, he may turn out to be a stud also (regardless of drafting positition.) Also, my screenname is paying homage to when we actually had a KICKASS defense IE: Seau, Merriman, Jamal, just to name a few. Got it? Anyways, hope we KICK-ASS this year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
