Quarterback (3) Philip Rivers, Kellen Clemens, Brad Sorensen

These three are set for the roster. Philip Rivers is the starter and the offense is on his shoulders. The team goes as far as Philip goes.
Kellen Clemens is the new guy to the roster and he will be holding onto the clipboard for Philip. He will be in the ear of the quarterback, but is a solid veteran if the unmentionable happens.

Brad Sorensen gets another season as the 3rd QB on the roster once again.

Do u think v brown will live up to his expectations

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

no idea… i was hoping they had someone on the roster that could push him.

      • Jacob911

I kinda think we need someone who can play on the outside if verrett turns out as a slot guy

        • Stefanie Smith

Guys can only push Brown when they are allowed to play. Ajirotutu would be fine and play even better if he got more opportunities. The more playing time, the more he is in tune with Rivers. Rivers and Ajirotutu always clicked.

A lot of tough decisions for the coaching staff…that’s a good problem to have. Bolts suddenly looking pretty stacked on D-line, Linebacker corps and Secondary. All in all, defense starting to look really solid.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

the defense definitely looks like it has more depth around… people just need to stay healthy

  • http://WWW.BEMCC.ORG Steve Diaz

I have a feeling one or two of the UDFAs will be surprising us. Both WR and CB will be fierce competition. One of the best things about this draft is that we have a lot more quality depth. LB competition should also bring out the best in that group, and hopefully we’ll be able to stash come quality depth on the practice squad. Not sure if English will survive this year. We shall see.

  • davacho

I hope ghee breaks out with new team/fresh start

  • zak p

I love the depth. That was our main problem last year. I love the o line. Verrett will be the best cornerback in the draft. All the scouts and a lot of other people have said if he were 2 inches taller he would be the number 1 cb takin. Love the draft, love the depth and our practice squad should ne loaded with talented guys like cromartie and Williams add in some of the undrafted free agents and were lookin solid all around.

  • Nick Mansoor

our receiving corps is going to be really interesting to watch during camp and preasason. We have so much talent there, I think there is going to be some surprises too when final cuts come.

  • gpack17

really feel alden darby could push taylor off of the roster if taylor doesnt show up in camp or preseason..ghee should make the roster..and most likely tourek or keiser might make it over english..(hopefully)..also i could see sorenson and grice as practice squad guys..so those are 2 spots that open up too..

    • Why O Why

I just watched Alden Darby’s highlight reel and I think that you are right. Taylor unfortunately cannot seem to find his way onto the field :/

  • Sergio Quintero

Larry English why Ernie why??, time to cut bait and run, Law & T.Williams should be ahead of him.

Vincent Brown might be in the most intriguing position of any player on the roster, could be a starter, could barely make the roster or be cut all together.

I have a feeling Gachkar will find a way onto this roster, carrying only one backup OT is weird.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

i dont even know why… just wait till he gets hurt during the preseason…. but honestly, he still showed more promise at getting after quarterbacks than tourek did during the year.

      • Sergio Quintero

Football axiom: the most important ability is availability, want to see if Law has something to bring.

Speaking of CFL guys want to see if Inman can turn those super tools into something here in SD.

I think Ajirotutu & Brown are at risk of not making the team, if Floyd is healthy he’s starting, and if Inman & Reese can play to go along with their speed these 2 guys might not be here.

Ghee might tempt the chargers to keep him, but the availability thing hovers over him.

        • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

We have to have at least 1 CB that is tall to cover certain guys like Bowe – Thomas x 2 – Every 6″2 and above are going to be playing box out rebounder anywhere on the field and push our little dudes out of the way.

          • Gunnar Martin

As far as corners go, Wright is tall enough to handle them. Besides, you don’t want someone as inexperienced as Ghee to cover another team’s No. 1 receiver. That would be downright awful.

        • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

there are a lot of question marks in that wide receiver group. Wishing we had more sure locks after the draft, but we know nothing.

        • Stefanie Smith

If we had all these WRs last year, why would these guys get cut now? Plus Ajirotutu is making less than $1 mill. He’s earned a go.

      • Julien Bélair

        that’s just sad

  • Cgoodness13

V.Brown was mediocre last year mainly because he didn’t know what the heck to do or where to run, hopefully he did a lot of studying this offseason

  • 1961 Fan

It is time to send Larry English to retirement, perhaps the Club can get a draft choice for him.

  • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

I have a way where Tevin Reese can make the team, red shirt Sorenson til we actually need him, he’s taking up a spot that will never ever play.

    • Gunnar Martin

We could probably stash Sorensen on the practice squad without being in danger of another team scooping him up. Teams don’t want to put a guy on their active roster that they don’t know much about, especially at such an important position like QB.

      • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

we tried that with some guys in the past and lost them to free agency. Scott Tolzien?

        • Gunnar Martin

Touche. But still, it’s gotta be a little uncommon, right? It just doesn’t seem like a very favorable situation for the team picking him up.

          • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

could be… teams are hungry for QBs… i dont see sorensen as our starter any time soon, so don’t think it would be a huge risk anyway

          • Why O Why

It’s worth the risk to stash him on the practice squad. I do like his potential though in his limited play. In the preseason last year, he seemed to pick up the offense faster than Rivers.

        • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

          Exactly.. my thoughts too.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

thats true…. norv used to keep only 2 quarterbacks on the roster

  • Marco R.

I don’t see Tutu getting cut he is a beast as a gunner on special teams. I don’t think we really need to keep Sorensen. English needs to be cut, let Williams and Law compete. I don’t see Floyd coming back, I am kinda hoping he doesn’t because that was one scary ass injury. I think TuTu could take his spot as the number 2 and possibly Inman making the team over Brown. Even though I think Brown will be much improved in his second season in a new system and two years removed from a broken ankle. Also, I wouldn’t count out the possibility of using Grice as a WR. Woodhead and Grice out of the backfield sounds dangerous.

    • Gunnar Martin

I’d be fine with not carrying so many receivers because Grice is very capable of filling in there if need be. I am betting M80 makes it, though. English should definitely be cut. He’s too unreliable to own a roster spot. I would be shocked if Brown doesn’t make it.

    • Stefanie Smith

I agree. I like having the depth, but it is torture for good players to sit on the bench. Ajirotutu makes plays IF he is allowed to play. We’ve all seen how he is in sync with Rivers. Same for Brown. He came off a serious injury like others in the NFL. He should be good to go this year after struggling last year. Plus it was crowded out there for a guy to get his chances.

I would be real disappointed to see Ajirotutu cut. At least he has made plays. Some of these scrubs–well, we are simply hoping. Impact players.

      • Why O Why

I’d be shocked if the Chargers let go of Tutu. The reasons listed above are enough to keep him. His play on ST alone should keep him on the roster unless one of the new kids with blazing speed beat him out in the gunner position.

  • Stefanie Smith

Mike Scifres: Makes a lot of dough. Where has he been?

  • Julien Bélair

I would cut English and Geathers

  • Nick in PB

Overall, I think we have improved in almost every area. Looking at all those choices. Some of the younger players from last year will step up. We seem to have brought in some real talent, raw as it is right now, I am excited about the possibilities that exist! I’m stoked. Then again, I remember this same kind of talk last year before all the injuries hit us. Injuries will help make the decisions… they always do.

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Seemed like everyone took a turn on the bench last year. Remember all the camp injuries? Ugh…

      • Nick in PB

It was devastating to say the least! Going in to last season how set did we look at WR?

  • Brandon M

I feel like Chris Davis could take the spot of Tevin Reese. If Davis isn’t just a return man, he could be a depth player for our D-Backs…

    • Why O Why

Tevin Reese could be a DeSean Jackson clone. If he is, he would force the defense to respect his speed/big play ability. That would open up an already potent offensive scheme.

  • Aron

Our D bout to look stupid nex year..verret…teo weddle.butler ..attoachu …need I say more

  • Bolty

Every position counts on this team. Keeping a 3rd QB? I don’t think so. As far as the DL, I’d like to see Palepoi compete for a spot against Geathers. With Luiget’s shoulder injury and rehab and Reyes’ sophomore slump last year, why assume that they “start?” I would like to see Carrethers start at NT and Lissemore compete with either Reyes or Luiget to truly find out who can truly “stop the run” on this team. Of course, there should be heavy rotation throughout the game with all of them.
    V. Brown should be heavily pushed by Tutu, Inman, other drafts. If he can’t get separation and/or run the proper routes again this year, just pull him immediately. Enough of that!
English? We all want to see what Law and Keiser will bring this year. However, I don’t believe Pagano has the berries to put Freeney and Attaochu on the outside with Ingram as ILB replacing either Teo or Butler on passing downs. For example, let Teo cover have Ingram blitz also. Note to both Teo and Ingram, “you both better bring it and more this year!” Teo should “earn” that starting position this year. Brandon Taylor, your spot on this team is at the end of it’s rope too.
