Chargers sign UDFA CB Chris Davis, 8 more

The Chargers are really focusing on bringing in returners. They just signed Auburn cornerback Chris Davis. Davis is a 5’10″, 202 lb. corner that is physical in run support and in zone coverage. Davis is a passionate football player and was a well-respected captain for Auburn’s defense. He is most notable for his efforts as a returner, specifically for that game-winning, 109-yard FG return against Alabama. He has potential as a returner for the Chargers. He is very shifty and can break arm tackles in space.

Davis is also known for getting burned on two plays in a row by Kelvin Benjamin in the 2014 National Championship. He was called for a pass interference giving FSU the ball on the 2-yardline, then was outjumped by Benjamin for the game-winning TD.

Here is a list of all the UDFAs the Chargers have signed so far:

Portland State running back DJ Adams

West Texas wide receiver Torrence Allen

North Texas wide receiver Brelan Chancellor

Arizona State safety Alden Darby

Auburn cornerback Chris Davis

Washington cornerback Greg Ducre

New Haven tight end Michael Flacco

Oregon State wide receiver Micah Hatfield

Arkansas wide receiver Javontee Herndon

New Mexico guard DJ Johnson

Utah defensive lineman Tenny Palepoi

Wofford linebacker Alvin Scioneaux

Nebraska tackle Jeremiah Sirles

Nevada punter Chase Tenpenny

Boise State defensive lineman Ricky Tjong-A-Tjoe

Illinois State outside linebacker Colton Underwood

Boston College tackle Ian White

Lots of receivers…. and they got me a safety, Julien… lol. Conor and I got our wish!

    • Julien Bélair

I have something tonight so I’ll check all those players later haha but I’m glad that you gof a safety! Are you happy with him?

      • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Too hard to tell.. at least it’s something.. throw a Charger a bone, would Ya?

        • Julien Bélair

          hahaha

      • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Im watching hockey right now.. maybe some of these cb’s play safety too. I’ll look later.

        • Julien Bélair

you should Habs vs Bruins is always very good hockey

        • Julien Bélair

it is crazy here in MTL it’s even more crazy than football in SD

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Rooting for MTL… I effin hate the Bruins… and basically all Boston area teams. Hope Conor hasn’t been brainwashed by all their smarmy fans…lol… j/k.

          • Julien Bélair

haha that’s it ! ps : verrett will wear 22!!

          • Nick in PB

I’m with you Peter! The Boston fans are so cocky! The Pats, Sux are two teams I hate as much as the Raiders! I grew up a Blues fan so I never really had a chance to hate the Bruins. The FA class, to me, doesn’t look as good as last years but you never know. I do trust Tolesco. It’ll be fun getting to know these players and a seeing what they can do. Heck, I’m still rooting for Michael Hill!!! hahaha

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

The Blues have been getting better though… maybe next year, eh? Yeah, never know if there it’s a diamond inn there. We got a few last year. I’m curious to see if Geathers has made any development, and able to make a run at being a starter. The competition isn’t too stiff, really. He’s had a year to work on his skills. So have Marcus Cromartie & Brandon Jones, who are CB’s still on the roster from last UDFA. Then you still have Mike Willie and Dan DePalma still there. I’m most curious about Nick McDonald, since Hardwick is leaving next year. Wonder if he sticks around to be depth at center. I almost forgot about him, but he played some games for the Pats, and spent time with Green Bay… we have him on a futures contract.

          • Nick in PB

For sure Peter. I am very interested to see how Geathers has progressed. I have a feeling the Chargers like his potential. We do have some leftovers from last season that are either going to step up or adios. As a Blues fan, it seems heartbreak is always in the cards. Last season, Quick pretty much won thee series for the Kings. We just couldn’t match him. I thought with the addition of Miller, we would shine this post season. OK, I know I shouldn’t be talking about hockey here. I wonder how many of our UDFA from last season are on other rosters?

      • FitzWilly

        How about them Habs :)

        • Julien Bélair

          haha great playoffs series !!

          • FitzWilly

            going 7 games
Price is on fire this year
hope the habs can pull it off

          • Julien Bélair

I hope too I hate those Bruins

          • FitzWilly

like my Pappy used to say
            Ruin The Bruins :)

    • Conor Cahill

lol I wanted Loston or Bailey or Boston

      • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Yeah.. this guy looks like camp fodder. Still need to check to see if any of the CB’s might be “safety worthy”. Starting to think Taylor could be on track. Was he doing anything at practice the last few weeks?

        • arnie

if they can play better that the current “so called” invisible safeties, i welcome the competition.

          • I_Bleed_Powder_Blue_801

Yup! Injuries are a MoFo…We’ve been waiting to see Brandon Taylor for a while..Addae has been putting in work this offseason too! I can’t wait to see who makes the final 53 man roster….

  • Gunnar Martin

Love that TT swooped in and got Davis. I think he has a real shot at making the final cuts.

  • Marcel West-Bailey

    WAR DAMN EAGLE BABY!

  • FitzWilly

the search for a diamond in the rough begins :)
am i the only one that feels “dirty” having a Flacco on the squad
    it’s all good
    GOOO BOLTS

  • Gunnar Martin

Just checked out Alden Darby’s highlights. That dude has some legit ball-hawking skills. He looks like a steal.

    • I_Bleed_Powder_Blue_801

I just love the atmosphere around the Chargers Org. With AJ. & Norv they never really had open competition… It was a given who would start.. This is gonna be a great season!

      • Loco Bravo

You think because of this draft that this is going to be a great season? Have you looked at the schedule and the competition? It is going to harder to win this year than last; apparently after the draft fans think their team has gotten better and all the other teams remain stagnant. Have you forgotten the Bolts lost to the Texans (who went 2-14) and the crappy Raiders. You might bleed powder blue but you are not reasonable when it comes to the talent level on the Bolts roster. This is still a rebuilding year and with this draft, the Chargers are still three years away from being a top notch contender. One scrawny CB is not going to turn the Bolts into a Super Bowl contender.

        • Steve

Feel free to take that negative Crap back to your team rather than trolling here. Bolt up!

          • Loco Bravo

It is not negative, it is realistic; now go out a purchase season seats so the Bolts don’t suffer any Blackouts this year.

          • Stefanie Smith

One has nothing to do with the other. Are you saying if you don’t buy a season ticket, you can’t be a fan? Many fans are working people with families who can’t afford it. If that is your idea of what a true fan is–then you really are a loser. Only people with spare cash to spend on season tickets are true fans. Dude, you ought to have your face slapped for that.

          • Loco Bravo

You are the ignorant one, going on about a suggestion I made, get over yourself. The insult is when you can’t see the team we have, and dream about the team you want. If you only make one grade above minimum wage you better hope they sell out every game, so you can watch on T. V.

          • I_Bleed_Powder_Blue_801

Hey Fucktard, should I buy my season tickets even though I don’t live in SD???
Now who’s being unreasonable??!!! GTFO with your anger issues man!!

          • Loco Bravo

I see why you are angry, not living in paradise here in San Diego County, not in the city where the delusional fans reside, like you.

          • I_Bleed_Powder_Blue_801

Hey, keep up the bashing… At least you are on pace to be a statistical fan that may get stabbed at the Q by a Raider fan…

How are u a better fan than the rest of us???

I bet if the Chargers left it up to you they’d have 10 Super Bowl wins already right???

You are so in touch with yourself and reality… Give yourself a pat on the back while you’re at it…

            Get over yourself already!

        • Stefanie Smith

We did it last year with a team that is not as good as the team this year. We don’t pretend to be the best out there, but we are getting there. I think Coach McCoy will have us ready to compete. No, sir, we are not three years away from being a contender just because you say so. We did it last year… the start of the run.

We are hoping our team can compete. Why do you come on here to tell us we cannot? You’re wrong. Simple as that. Just remember–knucklehead, this good for nothing Charger team did better in the playoffs than the Bengals… who are supposed to be so great.. oops, our loser team wasn’t supposed to do that!

          • Loco Bravo

We lucked into the playoffs because the Ravens and Dolphins folded in their last games. If either of them had won we would not have had the opportunity to play the Bengals. We do not have the players YET to contend with the quality teams like the Sea Hawks or 49ers. This may be a “set back” year for the Bolts and if they don’t go 11-5, the playoffs will be out of the question. The Broncos will most likely win the division and who knows about the Chiefs but rest assured the Raiders are a more improved team based just on their excellent draft. I think (like last year) I would say we finish at 8-8. How can you say this seasons team is better than last years team, you haven’t seen them play one down yet. You want a measuring stick, then watch the first regular season HOME game against the Sea Hawks – then tell us who is the knuckle head!

          • Stefanie Smith

Don’t distort the premise of my argument. I advanced the proposition that we are ready to compete. You don’t like that–you want to sit around and complain about how the Chargers are losers. I said it before and I will say it again. You’re wrong. And yes, you are a knucklehead and an ignorant one at that. Now go do something nice for someone less fortunate.

          • 619rockstar

            Strongly agree with you stefanie

          • Loco Bravo

I will do you a favor, don’t bet your braces money on the Bolts making the playoffs.

          • Nick Mansoor

hey buddy show some self respect on this page and to the other commenters. Especially to I Bleed Powder Blue and Peter Thompson, those guys are really up there in seniority on this page. Just stop bro, your making yourself look like a douchebag

          • Loco Bravo

For telling the truth and my opinion. Free speech is the rule of the land, something I served for, while guys like you threaten behind your computer. You must be someone that thinks everything is “just duckey” with the Chargers and they are going all the way to the big show, you blind fool.

          • I_Bleed_Powder_Blue_801

You act like the Chargers are on your timeline for success… We all have our opinions. Sadly, you choose to come and bash us as if you are better than all of us.
What the heck is that all about??
Paradise?? San Diego??? Weather maybe. Cost of living, crime rate, and traffic…You can keep your paradise!
Rome wasn’t built in a day. Why should a championship Chargers team be? Because you are a season ticket holder ???
Everyone that roots for this team would love to see them win big now …

Please do tell us all since you write in here as IF you are all knowing.

Hanging on to the past is ridiculous man… Let it go already.

You nor I can change that Marty got fired and that AJ stayed too long.

All we can do is sit along for the roller coaster ride this team will offer to take us on .

It’s your choice to buy the ticket if you are tall enough to ride

          • Loco Bravo

The Spanos family has owned the Bolts for 36 seasons (since ’84) they have made blunder after foolish blunder. I am not complacent with mediocre performance and you should not be either. My problem is, every year most posters are blind to the quality of the team. They go on and on about how great the team will do. I have tried to interject some reason into the conversation. If you look around at the professional writers they gave the team a C grade on this draft. Some have said 6-10 this season; I think 8-8 like I said last year, and I was surprised they got to 9-7 and beat the Chiefs in the last game and then got help from the Ravens & Dolphins (lucky break) Those are the facts that most posters here dismiss. We all support the team, some of you just take a licking every year, not me, I wrote a scathing letter to Dean Spanos about his shitty choices; it took him six years to can those two losers. When ownership makes bad choices we all suffer. Someone can gain knowledge and not be ignorant, in some cases you can’t eradicate stupid. You should be angry too!

          • I_Bleed_Powder_Blue_801

I am! But I don’t have the kind of green backs it takes to buy the team.

            Do you!!!?????

If so maybe you can do a better job…

          • Augie Baza

Hey Bro. The Spanos are on the right tracknow. IN Telescope I trust. They got this one right and we are on the way. Telescope and the Real Mcoy. You can’t loos with that. We can alway call him MR T.

          • I_Bleed_Powder_Blue_801

            Augie Baza,
When it comes to the Spanos ownership, it’s been a wild ride.
I think it’s quite obvious they were in over their head when they had to hire former Green Bay GM Ron Wolf to figure out which direction to steer this team. THAT was a big slice of humble pie for them to do that.
They didn’t know what they were doing w/ AJ and Norv. Now things are rebounding and time will tell.
My opinion is that the Spanos’ have been worried more about running a business instead of fielding a winner. Let’s hope now that they are very focused on fielding a winner….
Rivers isn’t exactly a spring chicken anymore.
Telesco has done everything opposite of AJ…He talks to the media, and he’s done everything he’s said he plans to do so far. He’s filled holes and brought more players with speed to the team.
Let’s see what the final starting roster will look like before ANYBODY assumes they’ll go 8-8 based on their schedule…

          • I_Bleed_Powder_Blue_801

Oh, and yeah, your professional writers you sight giving the team a C grade on this draft…Right…
So how is it that these images attached with these grades are out there???
Season hasn’t started yet, the final 53 man roster isn’t set yet, and you have them going 8-8…
            Laughable at best…..
Keep preaching the sky is falling and keep crying wolf man!!!

          • Nick Mansoor

First off, I’m not threatening you, you must be blind. Second of all I don’t think “everything is duckey” with my Chargers if have read my articles on this site you would know that I support my team and believe in them, but I don’t think they will go all the way. And lastly you sir are the real fool here. Your just blasting fellow bolt fans on this page and acting like you know everything about everyone. Your momma obviously didn’t set you straight as a child. You sir are weak, very very weak.

            Don’t sweat it man…
I’m over it… If this guys M O is to point out all the shortcomings of the Chargers, let him

        • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

While there is some logic in what you say, your delivery is at a 2nd grade level. Grow up, son.

          • Loco Bravo

Son? I have shoes older than your 39 years. Besides, I never once called you a limey.

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Well, stop acting like a rook then. Coming on here and bringing that negative BS is high school. If you want to state your opinion, duo out respectfully.

          • Loco Bravo

You think telling the truth is being negative; the Bolts do not have the team this year to go deep into the playoffs, IF they make it that far. That Son, is being realistic; please don’t tell me you are going to make those asinine predictions like some posters last year: One fool had us at 13 – 3 the other at 14 – 2. I thought you might be the one positive person on this site that could see the glaring holes in our team.

            * We had a team and could have possibly gone all the way to the SB, but no that dumb ass Dean Spanos thought is wise to go with an arrogant dick called A. J. Smith and fire a very good head coach that finished the season at 14-2- GET THE PICTURE. Telling the truth, not dreaming!

          • I_Bleed_Powder_Blue_801

U clearly have anger issues… Get help… If you are like this with the fans posting here, I’d hate to see how u are with your own family…

          • Loco Bravo

You tell us all what win loss record the Bolts will finish with this season and I will go off this site until tomorrow. Come on, make a prediction

          • I_Bleed_Powder_Blue_801

I root for this team win, lose, or not…
            I never asked u for anything…
IF u r in a giving mood, give it a rest w the Chargers Bashing…

I am no physic whatsoever… Therefore will not make a prediction…

I will however still blow the cash to pay for NFL Sunday ticket just for the chance to see this team play…

Take a good look at my profile picture…

Realize how much crap I have to hear from people who see that in my home….so it may take a lot more than the Chargers taking more time to ultimately get a Lombard, but I’ll be around until I’m no longer breathing….

I’ve enjoyed everything from watching the Chargers thru the years…
I don’t feel the need to be a keyboard assassin unless someone needs that special attention

Telling us to go buy season tickets and you are in here bashing us?? You’d be lucky if one of us would even want to sit next to a BASHER like u at a game….

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

No, calling people dim-witted numb-nuts is negative. It doesn’t matter if you’re points are logical, or valid, if you are being rude.

          • Augie Baza

I know exactly what you are talking about. That was one bad ass mistake I don’t want to ever forget. Spanos Fed up. At that time we had A future hall of famer QB. Wait 2 future hall of famer QB. Possibly 3 future hall of famers RB. 3 OL future hall of famers. 1 WR future Hall of famer. A future TE hall of famer. Also a Future Head coach hall of famer just to let him go for Turner. We just need to remeber that this General Manager is a genious. He is something special. You can just see only great things coming to San Diego. So BOLT UP. THis is a new ERA. A GREAT CHARGER ERA.

I don’t know if you can see their ip addresses as a writer, or if Ernie can, but I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t know how to mask it and it should be a match.

Maybe Ernie can. I don’t remember 1961 carrying on like that, with multiple people. He usually says his piece, maybe responds once or twice. If it is actually him, I would be disappointed. He doesn’t strike me as somebody that would change his name to cause trouble. I don’t always agree with him, but he has never called people names, that I remember. He even signs his name to it… “Pops”.

          • NativeSanDiegan

I checked it out and pretty obvious same guy. Looked at maybe 100 posts.

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Aw man.. that sucks. Gotta admit, I’m a lot disappointed. This board can get testy, and everyone is encouraged to give their opinion…. popular, or not. I can be a bit of a downer myself, at times. But, when we start outright provoking people, calling people names, and generally disrespecting others for no good reason… well.. ain’t nobody got time for that. Save that for the Raider trolls. How did you know? Did you compare the two addresses?

          • I_Bleed_Powder_Blue_801

when I get the updates showing new notifications of replies/comments to me, the handle/profile name for the same comments replying to me have gone from Loco Bravo, Gill Netter, and back to 1961 Fan.
He’s either off his medz, overdosing on Cheerios that someone pissed in, or got his account hacked.
I’m betting on the first 2.
It’s all good man. I know how frustrating it can get when you want this team to win and win big now.
Here’s the thing…yeah, there’s been some suckfest seasons and bad player personnel moves, but the Chargers have not been perennial toilet bowl dwellers to the point they always draft at the top of the heap. I for one am thankful. I don’t know how much suckfest I could endure, but I’d do it if I had to….
Just got done reading an article Tom Krasovic wrote about TT and how telling his draft tendencies are becoming on the UT site.Good read…
I try not to pick apart the bad anymore, because that just gets exhausting.
There’s plenty to look forward to so far.
What’ I love most is how the Chargers are already getting a power rating at 23 from Vegas, and the roster is not set yet.
Let’s see if the Chargers prove them all wrong….

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Got it. Next time I see him post, I’ll just ask him. There is a lot to look forward to, for sure. Last year was a learning curve, and they still did well, mainly because of coaching. The roster was patchwork, but they made it work. The learning curve is now over for me. The same coaching that got us into the playoffs, was also the same coaching that almost kept us out of the playoffs. I am looking forward to not seeing some of those boneheaded stubborn calls. I’m looking forward to that more than I am looking forward to the new players, actually. One thing is for sure… the schedule we face this season is much tougher. They can’t afford to mess around this season. They need to be able to divert from the game plan, when something clearly isn’t working. Let’s do this, and do it right!!!!

          • I_Bleed_Powder_Blue_801

Friend? Not if you are like most of the other clueless numb nuts I see every year posting about how great we will be, and the team has not even entered camp yet.

            * Look up where Peter Thompson says “there is some logic in what you say” you see, logic is lacking in many of these posts.

          • I_Bleed_Powder_Blue_801

Go post on the union tribune sight.. There are plenty high and might ass clowns like yourself that think real fans can only be season ticket holders….

          • I_Bleed_Powder_Blue_801

More like time to fuck off!

        • http://WWW.BEMCC.ORG Steve Diaz

Actually, we did get better. We have now improved in every position, including a pass rusher that can learn from Freeney, a CB who is lightening fast with a great vertical jump, and offensive guard who adds depth and versatility since both Hardwick and Clary may not be here next season, and a stout nose tackle who reminds me of pro bowler Jamal Williams. Plus a plethora of WRs and CBs who will actually compete and we may find a diamond in the rough. We all know competition breeds excellence. Not to mention a steal of a RB who can be an eventual replacement for our three headed running attack and gives us great depth at the RB position. Do you remember Matthews going down in the Denver game? All we had was Woodhead and Brown. Now we have Matthews, Woodhead, Donald Brown AND Grimes, who is also a GREAT receiver and PR. I’m happy with the picks, and now both our offense AND defense should be better for our tough schedule ahead. No one gave us a chance last year, and the bottom line is we DID go to the playoffs, and beat Cincinnati when absolutely no one gave us a chance. So get your friggin negativism the hell out of here and show some bolt pride!!!!

          • Loco Bravo

Go buy season seats – put your $ where your mouth is – BOLT UP.

          • Stefanie Smith

Many FANS’ $$$ are used to pay rent/mortgages and pay for the kids’ braces. If you can’t grasp that, then that is really too bad. Get over your season ticket angle. Not a good one.

        • 619rockstar

We should have beat the broncos in the playoffs, but Mathews got hurt, if we had a Donald brown last year to back him up we woul of been in that afc championship game

        • I_Bleed_Powder_Blue_801

          A$$hol3$?are like opinions, everybody’s got 1 and here u are…
How is my post unreasonable… A person can’t hyped up?! It’s that time of the year… I don’t know who pissed in your Cheerios, but really ??? Go choke on that and a bag of d!ck$!!!!!

          • Loco Bravo

Now you are being profane because you know deep down that our Chargers are still several key players away from being a strong contending team. This is what we should do; wait to see how we fair against the Sea Hawks in that first regular season Home Game. With the schedule we have 8 – 8 would be a good year.

          • BoltsUp

Did you forgot last year during Preseason our starters played the seahawk starters and drove them back all the way.

          • Loco Bravo

Pre season is for coaches to evaluate a players talent, not necessarily to win games, and for the season seat holders to pay FULL PRICE for two games that don’t count in the standings. Regarding pre season, many good players have their NFL aspirations end in the pre season. Don’t believe me, ask Peter Thompson he is a student of the game.

          • I_Bleed_Powder_Blue_801

            You Bashed in here first…

Don’t go kick a dog and not expect to get bit

Tell me, how long have the Seahawks sucked until they no longer did???

How long have they had to stockpile talent?

Do u really like the Chargers or are u just here to tell us the sky is falling????

        • RZ

It’s ok..we know you’re really a closet Raiders fan, a clueless one at that. Why else would you come on here to whine and bitch about shit that you have absolutely no clue about.Move along peanut.

          • Loco Bravo

Everything I have said is factually correct. Have you forgot about the recent history of the Chargers? Most of you think the Bolts are vastly improved; I think so too! Unfortunately the other teams have gotten better also. I have tried to point out the glaring holes we have on defense, namely the corner backs. If you look at the stats you will see we finished in 29th position in passing defense. We only drafted ONE CB supposedly this player is a speed demon. That is good, but both corners need up grading and the Bolts passed up getting another starter in the second round. If you feel bashed then you are not reading into my posts. The Chargers are still in the rebuilding process and I suspect they will be even better next (2015) season. I will hope they do better than I expect, they did last season, with some luck from other teams. Be realistic and look at the facts; look three posts up it says ” telling the truth” can you handle the truth?

          • I_Bleed_Powder_Blue_801

            Handle this truth then…
There’s a reason YOU are a fan and NOT Tom Telesco.
You will be eating crow when YOUR prediction of 8-8 record rings false in 2014

          • Loco Bravo

I hope we win the Division – anything is possible.

          • I_Bleed_Powder_Blue_801

You contradict yourself every other post….

My hope is you took your Medz…

          • Loco Bravo

            ZZZ

    • arnie

If a player tells who they are the first time, believe them. The young man has skills.

    • Alter Ego

Wow…I never heard of this dude…He looks awesome on tape – holy crap, why wasn’t he drafted?

      • Gunnar Martin

I have no clue! I hadn’t ever heard of him either until we got him, but I’m sure glad we did. He, Chris Davis, and DJ Adams are probably our best shots at a diamond in the rough.

    • Augie Baza

Can it be possible that Telesco signs his second undrafted free agent rookie safety to make this team. This is going to be Adaee’s back up. Same height size and dedication. Just a tenth of a second slower but this may be a gem.

  • KK

You forgot Arizona State running back Marion Grice

    • Conor Cahill

      Um we drafted him?

      • Julien Bélair

        we did in the 6

        • Conor Cahill

I know that’s why he’s not listed here

          • Julien Bélair

            correct!

  • Julien Bélair

za lot of wrs I love it

  • Rob Base

North Texas wide receiver Brelan Chancellor has MAD return skills and could be a steal. Darby is a ball hawk. Davis could have a shot. They will have competition in the return game now. Telesco wasn’t joking about speed.

    • Julien Bélair

      wow perfect man

    • tubbs45

better tuck that ball in while running in the nil… he is damn good

  • MachoMenos

I can truthfully say I barely recognize some of these names but it’s all good cause In Telesco We Trust.

    • Loco Bravo

Telesco brought in Derek Cox and wasted a reach on the # 2 pick in 2013 with the under achiever Te’o. Now he wasted the # 4 pick in order to move up to # 50 overall to get Jerry Atoochie when he could have had Corner Back Stanley Jean-Baptiste instead. Has everyone forgotten the Bolts finished # 29 in pass defense last season? WE need CB’s NOW!

      • Gunnar Martin

Ummm…. Jason Verrett? And don’t sleep on Chris Davis either. SJB has a high ceiling but he wouldn’t be able to help us much right away, especially considering we don’t run press-man like he would prefer. It’s ignorant to judge a pick, in this case Te’o, after only their rookie season. Then throw in the fact he was playing it on a broken foot.

        • Loco Bravo

We shall see who makes the final roster, first get on the final 53 man team and then you may get to play and contribute.

  • Julien Bélair

verrett will wear number 22 !!!

    • Gunnar Martin

Really? I was right?! How do you know?

      • Conor Cahill

        twitter

        • Gunnar Martin

          • Julien Bélair

            yeppppp

        • Marcel West-Bailey

          Wait…stop stop stop…didn’t Cox wear 22?

          • Conor Cahill

Yep, what an awesome turnaround. It will take some getting used to to see 22 be the best corner on the field

          • Marcel West-Bailey

No! Take that jersey off and burn it! That thing shall ever live in infamy. Our secondary can go from Hell to Heaven but not with that jersey being used.

          • Conor Cahill

Hopefully he can bring some respect back to one of the best secondary numbers

          • Marcel West-Bailey

Hopefully. If he has a bad season though I’m blaming it on the number.

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

            Or his size… ZING!

          • Marcel West-Bailey

Peter, I know he wasn’t your favorite but unlike Roby he has a clean record. If he has a good year for a rookie you should tweet him and tell him you thought he was going to be garbage and that you’re apologizing lol

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Whoah….nowhere did i ever say the man was garbage. I like him a lot, actually. I’m not an idiot… the kid is a baller!

And, Roby wasn’t my pick at 25, either. I just knew Telesco had backed himself into a corner with the CB situation, by making a series of (what I consider to be) bad decisions, and I knew what he was planning on doing. Personally, I wouldn’t have taken a CB, once Dennard was gone. Verrett will, no doubt, be a great corner. He will be our #1 CB.. there isn’t anyone on the squad, most likely, that can cover as well as he can.

What do you mean by clean record? Does Roby have a history of making poor decisions? I just heard about the one “alcohol related” incident. Were there other incidents? He wasn’t a player I would have picked, so I didn’t research him that much.

          • Gunnar Martin

He was arrested for a bar fight sometime around last year and got suspended one game for it (I think). There’s been some analysts that have said his decision making is very, very questionable, but other than that I can’t remember anything.

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Got it. Why is Keiser still on the roster, then? Shouldn’t he have already been cut that day? That’s alcohol, AND aggravated assault…. right before a playoff game, no less.

          • Gunnar Martin

Really can’t give an educated opinion on that because there are obviously some details there that us fans don’t know about. There’s a good chance he still doesn’t make the roster, in large part due to his anger issues. TT and McCoy also don’t seem like guys that jump to conclusions without dissecting the issue first.

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Or, they would have been in big trouble if they cut him for the Cincy playoff game, and wanted to make sure that they got their pass rusher in the draft, before making a decision on cutting him. Realistically, they just think Verrett is a better CB. If Verrett wasn’t there, pretty sure Roby would have been the pick. Let’s be real… business is business. They HAD to take a CB, in their mind. Character issues probably had very little to do with it. Jerideau was in a bar fight, and got suspended, too… still picked him up. Te’O faked a girlfriend, and said she died. Guess that is more my point.

          • Gunnar Martin

Hmm. Maybe. You’re probably right in that Roby would have been the pick if Verrett hadn’t been there because his character concerns weren’t really THAT serious. If they had been considerably worse, I highly doubt he would have been the pick. They still prioritize character and their commitment to football more than almost anything.

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Yes they do… when it’s convenient, anyway. I’m not totally sold on the “we only want squeaky clean players” thing, personally. They do what they want, like any other team. They wear it very well, though. Lol.

          • Julien Bélair

I wrote a post about the fact that the Chargers would draft a CB in the first no matter what. I’m glad it ended up being Verrett

          • Julien Bélair

he might be before the season starts

          • Marcel West-Bailey

You don’t remember that? You were like “I, Peter Thompson, dedicated San Diego Chargers fan, so solemnly swear that Jason Verrett will be a garbage corner because he is too small to play outside?” Lol I remember it. Clear as day hahaha. No, I get what you’re saying but why wouldn’t you? At the time I think he was the BPA and he was our biggest need as well as being a “high character” individual. Take that how you will. I’ve never met the guy but he seems like good dude. Well Roby had the bar fight and even though he wasn’t drunk when the police found him, you don’t end up passed out from drinking on the side of the road if you weren’t driving. In a parking lot maybe not on the road somewhere.

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Lol.. good. I just don’t want people thinking that I said anything like that. You know, I’m almost 40. I made some dumb decisions when I was a kid.. got into a fight, or two. Got caught with a similar blood alcohol level, but I was underage. I think people forget these guys are young, and in the spot light. Even if it was on the side of the road, he still did the right thing by pulling over, and sleeping it off, instead of continuing on. And he couldn’t have been really drunk, or it would have been way higher than .008… unless he literally say there for eight hours. It’s not like he pulled a Kenny Britt, speeding through a military base at 3am. Or, bitch slapping his Mama, like Dez Bryant. Fans were actually lobbying to bring Britt to the Chargers. I guess I don’t understand the scrutiny on Roby. Especially when we talk about what a good locker room & coaching staff we have to deal with this type of stuff. It was good enough to get Te’O in line, but not Roby? Roby didn’t lie to the national media for almost a year, and then get caught like Te’O did.

          • Marcel West-Bailey

True and I Roby and I are the same age and I do the same stuff but I’m smart enough not to get caught. I mean this guy tried to start a bar fight and then assaulted the security at the bar after they kicked him out. If you’re drunk and you’re gonna drive (I’m not recommending this people) at least drive where people are less likely to be or go to a Walmart and nap there. Cops won’t bother you and Walmart allows cars to sit in the lots. Yeah I know about the Kenny Britt thing and I was not up for that. Nor did I think Telesco would like a player like that. And for God’s sake we don’t want the emotional maturity of a fetus in Dez Bryant. Well Te’o got played. Everyone’s gotten that Facebook message where she pulls some foolishness like “hey honey. My number’s 123-456-7890. Call me. I think you’re cute”. And most of us know that’s some scam but he got suckered into something even bigger. I guess what I’m saying is Te’o’s mistake had nothing to do with his personal character. I think the best way to say it would be his social intellect got played. Roby has a record lol. Like if you were friends with him and you tried to get a job at a government place they may not hire you.

          • Stefanie Smith

Good point. I wanted to give you a vote, but it won’t let me. 5 stars for your comment. lol

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Retire #22, and put it up in an area of the stadium where fans can throw mustard dogs at it.

          • tubbs45

bury it under the new stadium we may never build…

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

            Lol.

          • Marcel West-Bailey

And then I think a bonfire for all of those who bought one thinking he was going to help

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Uh Oh… raise your hands if own a Derek Cox jersey.. doh.

          • Marcel West-Bailey
          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

That’s what I did yesterday.. lol. I used to cringe.

          • Julien Bélair

            haha

  • Sergio Quintero

Chris Davis looks to be the favorite to make the team, DJ Adams & Torrence Allen have good production, those are the one that looked most interesting to me.

    • Marcel West-Bailey

I watched all his games in 2013 and he seriously could come in and take Wright’s job

      • afroamongfew

That might be a stretch. Good CB depth, but that National Championship game did a lot to illustrate that he might not be the guy you want covering teams #1 WR. But as a kick returner? I love the signing.

        • Marcel West-Bailey

As a kick returner he probably already has the job but as a corner he could take Wright’s. You can’t judge someone’s game off one bad performance. Every corner gets burned. This isn’t going to happen this year. It may not even happen next year. But I’ve seen him have a flawless game and he’s very good. It won’t happen immediately but give it time.

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Hopefully.. I bet CaliforniaKid $100 that Wright wouldn’t be the #2 CB in 2016… lol.

          • Marcel West-Bailey

What if in 2016 he’s the number 1 still? lol

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Then one of these things happened… Wright is a bad ass, we didn’t draft well, or we had some major injuries… no matter what, Cali-Kid is having drinks on me.

          • Marcel West-Bailey

            Heh alrighty then

      • Julien Bélair

Really? wow you are high on him

        • Marcel West-Bailey

Now this isn’t going to happen this year….or the next but I’ve seen this guy have a good game. He’s extremely talented.

          • Julien Bélair

I look forward to the training camp and see who will make the team!

          • Gunnar Martin

Haven’t seen all his games like games like you have, but I have seen more than a couple and I completely agree with you. I have no idea why he wasn’t drafted. He’s got the skill, the build, and the willingness to succeed in the NFL. He also got a 40.5 inch vertical at his Pro Day, which would have been the second best among corners at the Combine had he been able to participate. Telesco sure loves guys that can jump high.

          • Marcel West-Bailey

Well now I can’t wait for the season to start. Or at least training camp so I can see where Verrett lands and how Davis does. I’m bored already.

          • Julien Bélair

wow It doesn’t take long eh

          • Marcel West-Bailey

Ohh no. Not long at all. I’m that guy that starts watching ESPN, NFL Network, and NBA TV at 5 AM and doesn’t stop until about 8 or 9 at night. Checking in for news and rumors at least twice an hour. Right now I don’t really care that much about basketball until the playoffs get interesting which won’t happen until Miami plays Indiana and San Antonio plays either LA or OKC. It’s way to early in the season to care about my fish in baseball and my Panthers suck so I’m not watching hockey. But then there’s football where my favorite corner ended up on the team and we had a good chance of beating Denver but Ken Jizz n Cunts ruined our chances. The offseason is one of the best parts of sports. Seeing the improvements your team makes and wondering how they’ll fit together is one of the best parts of sports. Hopefully we can raise our terrible red zone percentage and come up with some timely stops. The anticipation is the best part.

          • Julien Bélair

every teams seems the be the next SB champion during off season

          • Marcel West-Bailey

Those fans aren’t objective. “It’s our year. It’s our year” The New York Knicks and Dallas Cowgirls have been saying that since their organization started. There are only a handful of teams that go into the offseason REALLY thinking they can win the SB. As much as I love the Chargers, we shouldn’t be one of them. Wait and see how our defense holds up and how our O line does and then after next year’s draft picks I may be ready to say that.

          • Julien Bélair

I think our D will be a pleasant surprise this year

          • Gunnar Martin

Shhhhhh! You should stop telling yourself that right now so that you will REALLY be surprised when it happens!

          • Julien Bélair

            haha right

  • Gunnar Martin

Colton Underwood, after taking a deeper look at his tape, looks like a Thomas Keiser clone to me. He even has the Flexed Biceps sack celebration!

    • Rob Base

I think Telesco wanted him from the get go. He’s a ball hawk too always making a play.

  • arnie

He has a shot of making the roster, if there aren’t more “versatile” players on the roster than can punt return.

  • Marcel West-Bailey

Jimmy Fallon said Verrett is so quick he intercepted the coin toss. And that Clowney played for the South Carolina Game Cocks…and that when he was in his dressing room Clowney had the biggest game cock he’d ever seen.

    • Julien Bélair

      that’s………disturbing

      • Marcel West-Bailey

And I actually saw it. The video where Fallon said it not Clowney

  • I_Bleed_Powder_Blue_801

Great Posts! Some of these guys may make the cut. It will definitely make for an interesting competition battle at several positions.
Conor, are we stuck with having to see the comment threads I’m attaching as a screen shot? These comments are in your article, yet have nothing to do with the topic. Really love this site and would love to see these anywhere but BoltBeat….

    • Gunnar Martin

Hate those “discussions” too. I’d love to get rid of them.

      • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Don’t even get me started… lol. Dumbest idea ever!!!

  • 619rockstar

Loco you’re probly one of those band wagoners anyways

  • 619rockstar

I can’t stand ignorant people that call themselves charger fans but always bashing them or just have negative things to say

  • Marcel West-Bailey

GUYS! GUYS! GUYS! ESPN IS GOING TO TALK ABOUT US!!! THEY’RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT US ON NATIONAL TELEVISION!!!

    • Gunnar Martin

      WHAAAAHHHHTTTT?!?!?!?!

      • Marcel West-Bailey

        THEY’RE DOING IT NOW!!!

  • Gunnar Martin

What number do y’all think Attaochu will choose?

    • veazy

No clue, but I’ll guess something in the 90s and not 50s. After checking the roster, the only available number in the 50s is 55, and that number was just retired.

      • Gunnar Martin

Could he stick with a number in the 40s? Do you know what the NFL restrictions are for linebackers?

*The only numbers left in the 90s are 92 and 97.

        • veazy

I’ve seen players with duplicate numbers in the preseason, but I’m not sure if that would carry over to the regular season.

  • Marcel West-Bailey

If any of you play Madden you have to see the Chargers roster with the draft picks. It’s absolutely hilarious.

  • Loco Bravo

    The upcoming season:
A featured writer for Bleacher Report has the Chargers finishing at 6-10
    The Raiders @ 5 – 11.
    The Chiefs at 7 – 9.
The Broncos at 12-4 to honor Peyton Manning’s last season.
With Manning gone, the Bolts have a chance to reposition themselves back at the top of the Division in 2015.
For the 2014 season it is another rebuilding year and no matter how many fans hoping for a big push it will take a complete collapse of the Broncos for the Chargers to win the Division – anything can happen and as history has shown the Bolts have been lucky – like last season when they coasted in on the coattails of the Ravens and Dolphins failure to win their last game. A few seasons ago the Bolts were 4-8 after the first twelve games and won the division with an 8 – 8 record after the total collapse of the Broncos last 4 to 6 games. This will not be a lucky season for the Chargers with many positions still lacking and a VERY tough schedule.
