Chargers sign UDFA DT Tenny Palepoi

Utah DT, Palepoi (6’1″, 298 lbs.), doesn’t project at a 3-4 DT in the NFL. He has great quickness off the line and shoots through gaps with explosiveness. He is another TT type of guy. He loves football and is mature beyond his years.

He is not strong enough the pick up double teams, which again shows me he will probably be competing for a depth spot at defensive end. He finished 3rd on Utah with 9.5 tackles for loss. He is a JUCO transfer and regularly subbed in for Jacksonville DT Star Lotulelei.

Not a bad pickup. I’ve seen him play a couple times, and he’s alright. There’s a chance he lands a spot on the practice squad or maybe even the inactive list. They call him the Mowin’ Samoan.

Is he ‘maxed out’ or can he still bulk up some. Could be a guy to compete for the backup DE role…

I really don’t think he will bulk on anymore weight. His brother is the same size too and he played DE as well.

I’m happy for him. I’m actually good friends with his big brother Anton who grew up with me in west valley and Anton also played in the NFL for the Seahawks and broncos. Good job tenny and we will be watching.

And on a funny side note Anton sacked Doug flutie back in the day when flutie was a charger.

Zach Kerr and DeAndre Coleman are still out there too. Be really nice if we could sign one (or both) of them. The Chargers’ strong history with UDFA’s always helps bring quality guys to camp. A lot of the rookie free agents we don’t even sign get signed on to other teams. Hope the trend continues this year.
