San Diego Chargers War Room Day 2: 2014 NFL Draft Open Thread

Time to open up the Bolt Beat War Room for day 2 of the NFL Draft. Time to get back in here and add to this year’s draft class. We already have taken Jason Verrett with our first selection in the draft and will be looking to add more talent onto the roster.

Who are we going to get onto our roster this time around?

The team could look to find a pass rusher in the next couple of rounds. A wide receiver selection could come today as well.

I am hoping that we land Kyle Van Noy and Paul Richardson or Jarvis Landry today. I would be sitting pretty with those selections on the first 2 days of the draft.

To start out the open thread, just tell me who you would like the team to select today? I can’t wait to see this magic happen today!

        Lol

Can he play center? Stoked it was a lineman. Might be my favorite pick = )

      • Nick619chargers4life

Why ur fav. ? Make me a believer please .

        • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Because it was Telesco’s first order of business to fix that line. As good as the moves he made were last season, it wasn’t finished. We have five olineman contacts up next season. Some will be brought back, but there it’s a lot of uncertainty there (especially with Clary, Dunlap, Ohrnberger). Furthermore, he knows Hardwick won’t be back. He had to AT LEAST pick a higher round guard, or he would have been scrambling to replace his entire line next season, if things went really bad this season. What if one of his starters gets hurt really bad, and their contact is up, for example? Or even worse, one of his contract guys got hurt? He would be hamstrung in free agency AND the draft.. possibly starting a whole new rookie / FA line, or being forced to resign guys like Clary, or Dunlap.. even if he was going to let them go.

      • Nick619chargers4life

Espn saying super solid pick and draft by TT again

        • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Didn’t like the Verrett pick, but he’s a good CB, even if it ends up that he can’t defend big receivers. He will AT LEAST be an awesome slot CB, or great #2 CB, and is better than anyone we have right now (or he will be eventually). I was looking for a “SHUT DOWN” CB, though. If he ends up being that, I will take it all back, promise. Personally, if they didn’t want Roby, I would have preferred Bucannon or Ward, or some higher rated player, or Filo… even KVN would have been better IMO, by miles.

Two was auight. Pass rush wasn’t as big a need as NT IMO, but whatever. Don’t hate it. He’s going to contribute more than Tourek & Keiser.. lol.

Three I am ecstatic about! If you can’t keep PR clean, and Mathews rushing, you have nothing… the line wasn’t a finished project. I hope he can play center.. fingers crossed = )

It would be really hard for me to hate this draft, in the first place. We have so many holes to fill, it is almost impossible to miss on a pick. I may not think he picked the “best” players, but good players were picked. The team got better. Not a big fan of giving another pick away, though.

          • NativeSanDiegan

But what do you know about him Pete? Sure wish we’d gotten Barrett last yr., but ancient history now. like this blog that I’m 2 hrs behind in

  • Sergio Quintero

Rock solid Guard, I like it

  • Marco R.

    bye bye clary?

    • Nick619chargers4life

      Yup

    • Diegoblue

      No doubt

  • tubbs45

    Watt the watt…

  • Guest

of course the colts take moncrief

  • Marcel West-Bailey
  • Derek

I hope joe delisandress picked this one

  • Bolt Fan

Kinda on the short side for a guard

    • Nick619chargers4life

I guess we have to just trust

    • Nick619chargers4life

      They say he is solid

    • Sergio Quintero

Notre Dame is well known for having an excellent OLine coach, it was no accident that maybe the best “technician” in the draft was Zack martin, Watt played 30 straight games alongside him, and is a really solid player, so is basically a plug and play guard that can replace Clary tomorrow.

  • chargersfanfromswitzerland

how can you pass on donte moncrief in this situation tt????????? very very very disappointed

  • Diegoblue

    Daaaaaaammmmmmnnnn

  • Gunnar Martin

What was wrong with Trai Turner?!?!?!?!

  • Marco R.

Now lets trade Clary away! haha
The bidding starts at 2 first round picks in 2015 and 2016.

  • Derek

29 reps on bench… I’m willing to put faith in this one

  • I_Bleed_Powder_Blue_801

    Will this guy start??

  • Sergio Quintero

The draft starts at 9 am tomorrow right???

    • Marcel West-Bailey

Probably 10:30 since we don’t have a 4th round pick

      • NativeSanDiegan

so here in Hi early afternoon. My wife will hate me for it and tv not getting espn or nfl net, so I’m watching on nflnetwork on computer. Can’t record either.

        • Marcel West-Bailey

          download a screen capture program

  • Austin C.

Time to trade Clary for a 4th

  • jcrisp

So what they drafted chris watt, its not the end of the world and im sure they chose him over others because they had a good reason to do so. Maybe there was something about moncrief they didnt like.

  • Gunnar Martin

Five guys at his own position that were still available that I would have taken over him. TT is going to have to do some convincing for me on this one.

    • Nick619chargers4life

They say he is excellent in run and with his hands .

      • NativeSanDiegan

nfl network on computer said short arms, dt’s will get their hands on him and control him

  • Marcel West-Bailey

Can you trade cash for picks in the NFL like you can in the NBA?

  • Bolt Fan

Just got a little ill. He was projected to go in the 5th round…

    • Nick619chargers4life

      They say something

      • Nick619chargers4life

        Disregard that ^ lol

      • bolt up!

I would have rather took aj mccarron over that dude

        • Nick619chargers4life

          Lol whoa !

    • jcrisp

Louis nix was projected as a 1st rounder, manziel was even being talked about as number 1 overrall pick, and no one expected patriots to draft dominique easley when jernigan and nix were on the board. Projections mean nothing, media makes these smokescreens

  • Cgoodness13

Watt had very good game tape against Alabama

    • Cgoodness13

he wiffed a bit when he had to run a couple of yards to block, but other than that he malled the person in front of him and kept the QB clean

      • NativeSanDiegan

        Agree 100%

    • Derek

I’m a believer joe can make this guy a beast

      • Julien Bélair

and he can be our future C too

        • Derek

Jackpot! A guy that can play any interior position

          • Julien Bélair

            haha

        • NativeSanDiegan

          Are you sure?

  • Austin C.

The thing I like about what Telesco is doing is he’s picking players with high motors that love football

    • Nick619chargers4life

      Exactly !!

    • Sergio Quintero

As I said every Telesco pick will have productive and overachiever on his tag line

      • Julien Bélair

        that’s right

  • Austin C.

Maybe coach D can turn him into the Watt of O-Lineman?

  • Nick619chargers4life

We needed OL . Not like he is going to start .

  • Sergio Quintero

Vote of confidence towards Floyd’s health??

    • Marcel West-Bailey

I was thinking that myself. What I find a little interesting though is, we go for a guard even though we have Troutman. Which leads me to believe that Clary and or Rinehart are out either at the end of the year or possibly now.Maybe Orhnberger is gone too.

      • Gunnar Martin

        …or they aren’t impressed with Troutman…

        • Marcel West-Bailey

I don’t see how they can’t be because he isn’t costing the team SIX MILLION FUCKING DOLLARS!

          • Julien Bélair

Clary will be cut before june first

          • Gunnar Martin

If he somehow escapes this trap…. man. He must be some weird, fat secret agent whose base is in San Diego, and the Chargers are in on the decade-long mission. Only thing I can come up with.

          • Julien Bélair

            hhahahaha

          • Marcel West-Bailey

            You sure about that?

          • Julien Bélair

            no but still make sense

          • Marcel West-Bailey

Well he may be the Rhinehart replacement. Watt and Troutman learn for another year and then they take over the starting spot. I don’t know what Telesco is thinking but typically young guards need a little time to get acclimated. Actually he may be the Hardwick replacement.

          • Julien Bélair

very plausible…he brings a lot of possibilities.

TT seems to want to stop having BIG needs years after years and be one step ahead depth wise. I like the way he is building this team.

All players say they feel like home when they come here in SD. So glad AJ Smith is gone.

          • Gunnar Martin

He better be gone. Why is he still here again?

          • Julien Bélair

            great attitude … versatile

      • NativeSanDiegan

I didn’t like Troutman’s play last yr, and it’s nearing time for Clary to walk

    • Marco R.

OR Telesco REALLY likes Inman or TuTu. I personally have had high hopes for TuTu since 2010.

      • Julien Bélair

        and Brown

        • Marco R.

Not too sure about Brown. Hopefully he gets better. Ive just always liked TuTu.

          • Julien Bélair

I also like Tutu but as depth player though

  • tubbs45

We should have a comp pick for losing Vasquez

    • tubbs45

      Screw you Goodell.

  • tubbs45

Been fun gents… See ya tomorrow!

  • FitzWilly

    Well done as usual TT
    solid picks
i expect our D to be Lights Out this year :)

    In T^2 We Trust

  • Derek

We now got 6 linemen somebody is getting cut

  • Marcel West-Bailey

Alright guys. I’m about to make like a fetus and head out. It’s been real.

  • Harry Philpot

would love it if we picked aaron colvin and de’anthony thomas

    • Harry Philpot

never mind, now we have to face thomas twice a year
