San Diego Chargers Select OG Chris Watt

The San Diego Chargers finally added to their offense with the addition of OG Chris Watt onto the team. Watt will help in the interior of the offensive line and could push for some playing time in training camp. The team is looking to pound the football with the running game and help on the interior of the line will help that run game.

The team must have loved this kid to take him over Donte Moncrief in the third round. If Coach Joe D likes the kid, then he must see something that he can mold into a really good player. Coach Joe D is one of the position coaches that I trust on the roster.

I don’t know what the team will be looking to do with the wide receiver position, but I was hoping that they went with Moncrief with that selection. Telesco didn’t want to make the sexy pick with this third round choice like he did last year and we have some depth up front instead.

Yeah I wanted moncrief as well. And they passed on yankey?

    • Nick in PB

Yea… good point with Yankey, especially if they were going for a guard prospect. They could have likely gotten Watt in the 5th round. I trust Tolesco but this pick seems like a reach… a big reach.

      • Cooper

Yankey is a terrible guard. There is a reason he hasn’t been drafted yet.

        • Conor Cahill

Agreed. It’s a mistake to trust cbs or Walter over TT imo

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Yankey was #1, And dropped out of existence.. something is up.

  • MachoMenos

T Turner, Dakota Dozier C Richardson and Brandon Thomas still available. #InTelescoWeTrust ?

  • MachoMenos

    Anthony Steen available, too.

  • Julien Bélair

Noooooo not with Moncrief falling to us !

    • Nick619chargers4life

They know something we don’t , there is a reason he isn’t drafted

      • Cgoodness13

ya im guessing attitude or strength issue

        • Julien Bélair

I guess but damn …..Allen and MOncrief sounds deadly to me

      • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

He’s not a third round talent, bottom line. Maybe in a draft that was thin at WR, but this year is deep.

        • Julien Bélair

well he was picked just right after our pick..

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

He seemed to be more of a fan favorite, than a top WR to me. He is a 4th rounder to me, but we gave that pick away. Not sure we would have taken a WR, even if we didn’t. I even remember Mayock saying he didn’t understand the hype surrounding him when he was announcing him at the combine.

  • Cooper

I’m guessing that they are giving Brown one year to prove himself in this offense.

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

That, and they have Floyd for two more seasons.

  • BoltNative

They should’ve picked an NT here in Daquan Jones. That was a much bigger need than a project OG which we could’ve picked up in the 5th. Oh whatever then!

    • Will

And jones had a second round grade. Probably the last starting caliber nt left we could get. Watt had a 6-7 rd grade. This pick was idiotic af.

      • Marco R.

I don’t think theyre looking for a starting NT. Just someone to rotate with Lissemore

        • Julien Bélair

          That seems accurate

      • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Let me guess… you didn’t have this one mocked six months ago, eh Nostradamus? LMFAO at you.

      • NativeSanDiegan

Go back to the black hole that spawned you and get off our Lightening Bolts before you burn, troller!!!

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

They could still sign a free agent, or draft a fifth or sixth rounder. Maybe they just wanted to wait out the draft. I know he is a bad example, but they did that with Starks last season.

    • Conor Cahill

TT reAlly loves Lissemore, doubt they take a nt at all

    • David paul

I wouldn’t call Watt “a project guard” look at the film, this guy is ready to go and playing next to Fluker this is going to be a bad ass line..

  • srcnsd

I watched a lot of Watt tape a couple of days ago. He is a solid, solid pick.

    • MachoMenos

Glad to hear it. Did not know who this guy was.

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Agreed. It was a “wise” pick. Mainly because I trust Joe D more than TT or McCoy combined. He is a top oline coach, and has been around for years.

  • Steven White

This is a pick for next year when our o-line loses 3 starters. We have been damn good at finding receivers. Lineman are a premium. Remember last year? This year has depth at o-line so get it now.

    • Diegoblue

      I hope so

  • Steven White

Telesco is robbing Denver this year. Always one pick ahead.

  • BlueBoltFan

Didn’t see Chris Watt coming. Telesco has a thing for Indiana kids, since he probably saw a lot of them first hand as a scout. Not a sexy pick but Coach Joe D has a knack for getting the most out of these guys.

    • Sergio Quintero

Sounds like a future center, heard he’s an excellent technical player, and produced really well, the measurables sounds like a center.

      • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

He has to be Hardwick’s replacement. We already have two left guards under contract past this year, right? He doesn’t even sound like a great left guard, in the first place. The first thing that jumps out in his draft profile is his intelligence. Then, the fact that he has really good hips, which is something that can’t be taught, but it’s a building block for other teachable things. He has explosive burst off of the snap, and is powerful head to head. A center would not have to contend with much more than DT’s crashing forward through the middle, and would get help from his guards if he was in trouble. The turnstile thing applies more to guards, than centers, as they face pass rushing DE’s. I’m not tying to read too much into it, but I am totally confident that Joe D likes this guy, and has a plan for him. He likes Rinehart too, and brought him to SD, and he got a new contract. Unless they don’t like Troutman, or they are planning on moving him to the right (where he played really bad last season), he could be our new center. This might be my fa

  • Nick in PB

I scratch my hairless head on this one. Seems like better players on the board but I do trust Tolesco. They must have seen something in this guy they really liked. But, now I hate the fact that we don’t have a 4th rounder. I keep seeing players I like going before we pick. Anybody else feel that way?

    • Julien Bélair

No Attaochu worths it and we got very good value

  • Cgoodness13

id say hes pretty good, can maul, very good at turning the defender away from the ball, good hand work, and good foot work, just needs to work on not whiffing while blocking down field and get stronger to avoid getting pushed back

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Yeah… lol.. that matador / turnstile stuff it’s for the birds… lol.

  • Cgoodness13

    apparently he can play center

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Did you read that, or have a link CG13? I would love that!!!

      • I_Bleed_Powder_Blue_801

It’s in the Union a Tribune / SignOnSanDiego

        • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

          Cool. Thanks.

  • Rob Base

Trade Vincent Brown to the Browns for a 4th or 5th rd pick!

  • Gunnar Martin

So… does he start Year 1?

    • Conor Cahill

Clary worth 4m more than him? Lets let trying camp decide that one

    • I_Bleed_Powder_Blue_801

I read they may even groom this guy to replace Hardwick on the UT

      • Gunnar Martin

I hope so. That would be absolutely fantastic.

  • jerryleef

Don’t ever forget last year when everyone got their panties in a wad over DJ Fluker pick. Until Telesco and McCoy prove themselves inept, I think you gotta trust in the process. Sorry, but I don’t think WR is a priority. Worst case scenario is Allen, Brown and Royal. Tutu and maybe Floyd? Gates and Green? Our big free agency splash was RB Brown from Indy. I think running the ball just might be a priority, so i like the Watt pick. Also, don’t forget we have Williams at CB and some players from the CFL competing for jobs on the D side. I will be more pissed if we waste late round picks on a QB or a kicker.

    • Conor Cahill

Exactly watt was a good pick IMO
