I know I haven’t done many mock drafts at all during the off-season, sorry guys. But remember what I said earlier? I won’t be a making mock draft until we are at least a week away from the draft. So without further adieu, here is my first mock draft for the Chargers, all 7 rounds and a second option for all 7 rounds in case if my first choice get picked up. Here it is guys:

Round 1)

Kyle Fuller CB- Imagine Fuller on this Chargers secondary, he can give Shareece Wright a run for his #1 corner spot and he can even play safety in certain packages. Tall, lean, fast, he has hands, he can break up the pass, and he is versatile. What more can you ask for in a rookie corner? This is a match made in Heaven for the Chargers.

***Other Possibility*** Trade Down – If all of our targets in the first round are gone by pick 25, which there is a very good chance that this is possible, I would suggest that we trade down here and get a high second round pick along with a mid or late third round pick depending on which team we decide to partner up with in the trade. This is a smart move, we will have a high 2nd round pick AND a late 2nd round pick, and in a draft this deep, it makes way too much sense.

Cool. I like the idea of beefing up the defense. Deep draft so we can pick up a receiver or lineman later.

  • Jacob911

Man I hope fuller falls to us

    • Sergio Quintero

The rumors make it sound unlikely.

      • Jacob911

        rumors r still rumors IMO

  • Nick619chargers4life

I just hope we trade out the first . Van Noy Van Noy Van Noy !

  • esco charger

U never know how the draft will play out but I don’t think any of these picks will happen just my opinion

    • kobe24

      Even van noy

  • gpack17

Sorry but no way gaines is there in 4 or huff there at 7..I also feel vereen at 3 is a reach..could probably get a guy like loston or dixon there instead

  • Sergio Quintero

Gaines wont make it to the 4th, I would love that he would, but 6’0 and sub 4.4 speed don’t last long.

I like Latimer & Robinson a little more than Mathews.

In general a good mock, a safety in the 3rd I don’t know, i preferred the guard you mentioned.

    • Gunnar Martin

Same here on all accounts. Josh Huff also wouldn’t make it to the 7th round.

      • Jacob911

        Yea no way

  • Marcel West-Bailey

Mayock has Fuller going to the Steelers at 15.

    • Julien Bélair

his mock seems stupid … all of it but I guess we’ll see

  • Nick Mansoor

Anything is possible in the draft, it’s all the luck if the draw.

    • Guest

Yep. Just have to hope that you make a good choice. Otherwise…

  • MachoMenos

Great mock. I’d change only first pick from Fuller to Verrett. To me Fuller is just not a good tackler. Verrett has ‘tude. Now, my own mock draft…

    My Charger Mock Draft

Although I believe that if the Browns don’t draft a QB with their fourth pick other teams will be clamoring for our 25th pick so they can get ahead of the Browns 26th pick, this is my first, and last, mock draft for 2014, no trades included.

1st Round – Brandin Cooks, WR, Oregon State

(Yes, I know everyone is expecting a cornerback here and I’ll get to that later.)

Odell Beckham, Jr. and Anthony Barr will be long gone so….Brandin Cooks is just to good to pass up. A great route runner, doesn’t mind working between the tall trees and speed to burn. Ran a 4.33 at the combine and plays that fast on the field, too. In my mind he’s a mix between DeSean Jackson (same size but faster 40-time) and with a Steve Smith-like attitude. Check him out in his highlight reel at the 1:20 mark-UNREAL! Look at the patience he shows at the 3:04 mark on his punt return. When was the last time you saw a Charger return the ball like that? Patience and instant get-go.

Yes, I know Eddie Royal did a superlative job for us last year (Philip had a 139 QB rating when throwing to him) but he played hurt all year. Eddie’s always had injury concerns. Malcolm Floyd may be back and I’m rooting for him. But what if the doctor’s still haven’t cleared him in time for training camp? Vincent Brown did well (no drops [?]on the year) but he couldn’t consistently get open against the better cornerbacks in the league. Was that because of his broken foot in 2012 was still on the mend or was is he just too slow? Telesco has already fixed the problem we had when Mathews and Woodhead aren’t in the game by adding Donald Brown to the mix. Add this young man to our should-have-been Rookie of the year Keenan Allen and this would make one of the better offenses in the NFL THE best offense in the NFL. Period.

If Cooks isn’t there then… Jason Verrett, CB, TCU; Kyle Fuller, CB, Virginia Tech; Xavier Si’a-Filo, G, UCLA; Louis Nix, NT, Notre Dame; Gabe Jackson, Guard, Mississippi St..

2nd Round – Kyle Van Noy, OLB, BYU

(What still no cornerback? Patience, my friends!)

Everyone, and I mean everyone keeps saying the same thing about Van Noy- not elite, not an athlete. And? He has terrific instincts and is always around the ball. Van Noy doesn’t wow you with his frame or his straight-line speed, but he’s always there to make the play and never quits on a play. He seemingly breaks tackles as if the players aren’t even there. Is he a finished product? No. But we have Jarrett Johnson and Dwight Freeney for one more year so why not actually DEVELOP him into something that will be ready to go by mid-season instead of just throwing him into the fire? He definitely needs more moves to get to the passer but who better to sit behind and learn than Dwight Freeney?

Look at the 15 second mark on his highlights. He notices the QB about to take off and he takes him down for a loss despite being more than 15 yards downfield! Again, at the 2:52 mark he’s shadowing the QB in case he takes off. Sure enough as soon as he sees him take off he’s there to take him down for the loss. How many times have we seen QB’s just bolt and none of our LB’s can get him until the guy has picked up tons of yardage? Every freaking Sunday, that’s how many. We need a guy like this on defense.

If Van Noy is not there…Weston Richburg, Center, Colorado St.Jarvis Landry, WR, LSU; Jordan Mathews, WR, Vanderbilt; Demarcus Lawrence, OLB, Boise State; Ego Ferguson, DT, LSU

3rd Round – Pierre Desir, CB, Lindenwood

Has all the tools to become a star in the NFL but FAR from a finished product which is why I’m picking him here. Good GM’s have to think long term when it comes to team building. I wouldn’t be upset if we picked Fuller or Verrett in the 1st round (or Dennard or Gilbert if they fell-no chance) but that would mean we really aren’t expecting Steve Williams to play well. A GM cannot give up on a player if he hasn’t had a fair shake to evaluate him. I don’t think Telesco will go that route especially since Fuller is a suspect tackler and Verrett, while pound for pound the best CB in the draft, might have medical issues. I personally love Verrett’s attitude. He plays mad and with a gigantic chip on his shoulder. However, Desir’s upside might be just as high. He oozes athleticism. His lack of physicality and playing in a small school is the only thing keeping him from being considered in the top 2 rounds.

If Desir is not available…Dakota Dozier, Guard, Furman; Jordan Zumwalt, OLB, UCLA; DaQuan Jones, NT, Penn State; Bashaud Breeland, CB; Travis Swanson, Center, Arkansas; Matavius Bryant, WR, Clemson

4th Round – Justin Ellis, NT, Louisiana Tech

Thought we could wait to get him in the 5th but I don’t think he will be there now. Big man. Maybe too big. He’s a very hard worker but he has had weight problems in the past.

If he’s gone…Brandon Coleman, WR, Rutgers; Trai Turner, Guard, LSU

Fifth Round – Anthony Steen, OG, Alabama

Had him in the fourth but teams are staying away because of injury. No hype at all. He will never be a star but will be a grinder who has great awareness (something our present RG does not have ) and can pass protect, too. Not pretty but gets the job done. BTW- Steen and Flucker, back together again! How cool would that be?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TikMvQgl5k Very boring watching a Guard

If he’s not there…Brandon Thomas, Guard, Clemson; Deandre Coleman, DT, Cal

Sixth Round – De’Anthony Thomas, RB, Oregon

The Black Mamba, He Who Breaketh Opponent’s Ankles. We could go small, fast, playmaker. He supposedly ran “just” a 4.50 but he was clearly faster. His weird starting style made the idiots blow his time. He could bring as much excitement if not more than Woodhead did to our team. Would love to see him be our return man. The only questions-Is there still room for him on our team? Maybe not. Will he be available in the 6th round? Only if people really believe he is only a 4.5 guy. Either way, the kind of player I wouldn’t mind Telesco going for and having everybody say it was a “reach” no matter what the round. Except the 1st. That would be sacrilege.

If he’s not there…Jeff Janis, WR, Saginaw Valley; Jeffrey Pagan, DE/ NT, Alabama

7th Round – Michael Sam, OLB, Missouri

The best defensive player in the SEC available in the 7th round? He will be available. We need someone to take over for Larry English and possibly Keiser (now that his fight videos are appearing online). I say give the young man a shot or…

    Michael Campanaro, WR, Wake Forest

    Wes Welker, 2.0…unfortunately we’ll end up cutting him from the lineup and he will go on to become an All Pro for some other team. If they’re not there…Aaron Lynch, OLB, South Florida; Jordan Najvar, TE, Baylor; Zac Kerin, C/G, Toledo; Vinnie Sunseri, SS, Alabama;

Wild card – Telvin Smith, SS (not as a OLB), Florida State

This guy ran a 4.47, is 6’3” and a beast. However, he is only 218 pounds and his frame is very small so he won’t be adding a lot more muscle. Drafting him and moving him to SS seems like a no-brainer. But can it be done? Should it be done?

P.S. I love the way Jahleel Addae and Marcus Gilchrist improved over the season but this guy is huge compared to both of our guys. It would definitely be interesting.

  • Matt

To be honest, I don’t like this draft that much. Philip Gaines is in the 2nd to 3rd round range. Brock Vereen is being taken too high maybe 4th round would be a good spot. Josh Huff is also in the 3rd to 4th round range and won’t be there in the 7th.

Jordan Matthews is good but I feel like he is overrated because he’s not somebody who gets a lot of yards after the catch and his route running needs more improvement. He looks like a 3rd rounder to me, I’d rather take Robinson, Moncrief, Latimer, and Landry before him.

Dri Archer is an intriguing prospect. He is boom and bust because of his elite speed but he is injury prone. We don’t want a craig davis 2.0 again, or maybe like a Jahvid Best type.

You could also pick up a nose tackle for depth if none falls to you in the early rounds. Kerr, Coleman, even Carrethers on the late round picks instead of wasting it on another quarterback when we have an excellent backup and Sorensen from last year.

If we are getting a center for next year I hope we are getting a stud. Center is the most important position in the offensive line because he makes the line calls and constantly communicates with the quarterback. I’m hoping we could land any of the top 3 centers instead of getting one late for the sake of filling a need.

The things I liked on your mock was drafting Fuller then Van Noy on the first two rounds. (Even though they look a bit far-fetched now that people are raving on both of those players)

  • http://WWW.BEMCC.ORG Steve Diaz

I would love if we could trade back and pickup Kyle Van Noy and another pick in the 2nd or 3rd. With such depth in this draft class, this would be TT’s smartest move. Then we can pickup a CB or WR in the second round too. DT or OLB in the 3rd, and an OG in the 4th.

  • Eli Rodriguez

If the Chargers get Van Noy. Im buying the jersey as soon as its released!!!!!!! As bad as this sounds hes the only player I really am hoping to see in a chargers jersey next season. Im going to be really pissed if we dont get him.

  • RoyalChargers

I’m praying we draft BRADLEY ROBY ! HE IS GOING TO BE A BEAST !!!

  • Stefanie Smith

If TT ends up thinking he needs another QB, then I hope Garoppolo is the pick. Omg, he has Tom Brady looks So good looking. Way better looking than Manziel.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

and that guy is really good…

  • Rexola

Jordan Matthews will have the best rookie year out of all of the WR’s in this class. I think someone said he doesn’t have YAC….maybe you should watch his tape…he scores on huge plays after the catch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LfoPwGsNhco Notice the big plays he makes after the catch especially after the 1:00 minute mark.
