Kevin Acee stepped back a bit from all the team activity and has allowed Michael Gehlken to become the expert of the team, but Acee still has his ear toward all kinds of things that are happening with the Chargers since San Diego is a football town. Some people disregard all his talk, but he has a lot of information and isn’t afraid to share his opinion.

Check out his latest opinion on what the Chargers will do in the drat. Bleacher Report writer, Chris Hansen, asked him about the possibilities of the team taking Jason Verrett in the first round and this is how Acee responded:

Acee thinks that the team will go in another direction if they get that low in the corner depth.

Is he thinking that Tom Telesco is not a fan of Jason Verett? Should we re-evaluate this whole thing now?

  • Marcel West-Bailey

If all the corners are off the board I suspect an OLB or WR. But screw what Acee thinks. I’m very confident they’re drafting Verrett and I like the pick.

    • Sergio Quintero

Mayock screams the chargers are praying for a corner, and 2 days later they don’t like corners, its smells wrong.

      • Marcel West-Bailey

Well as I’m sure you heard Telesco doesn’t draft off the need but off the player. I’m starting to think if we don’t draft a corner in the first we’re going BPA. Really I’m starting to think we’re taking BPA regardless

        • Sergio Quintero

If its BPA don’t be shocked if its WR then, Lee or Cooks could be the pick then

If Barr is there, they have to take that guy.

          • Marcel West-Bailey

I think we need to come up with a short list of players for the first and second round that the team didn’t meet with at all that we could draft providing the players that were met with aren’t available. Kinda like a “don’t be surprised if we draft them” list.

          • Sergio Quintero

I have made peace with my cluster a long time ago, its Fuller/Verrett until proven otherwise, with Barr, Cooks, Ford after that.

          • Marcel West-Bailey

The guy on BFTB, Gennaro, did a podcast and spoke about young guys coming in and us thinking that they’ll get coached by the veterans and he was saying that isn’t the case. I know I’ve said it but people think “Oh we’ll draft so and so and insert name here will tutor him and give him good moves. He was saying that when LT, Turner, and Spoles were there LT was not into helping them at all. He considered them competition. I think if we draft Ford (WAR DAMN EAGLE) he’ll be the Dwight Freeney replacement but I don’t know Freeney will react to that. Would he be cool with coaching young guys are would he be like LT? I think the same goes for Barr, Attaochu, Critchon or even Smith.

          • Sergio Quintero

I would tell them, that why you have eyes balls son, watch video, there is no such thing as a stupid question to your position coach

          • Marcel West-Bailey

True. See I had that problem when I played baseball because my coach always told me to figure stuff out. They could never just tell me. But as of late I’ve really been hoping we get Barr more than a corner. And that’s not like me.

  • Julien Bélair

Su’a Filo might be the pick if available

    • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

That would be my pick, we would have one of the best O-line’s in football and Clary can take a walk and pay for the entire draft’s salaries, best 2 for 1 ever. Then we get Van Noy in the 2nd lol

      • Julien Bélair

He would be the best player on the board for sure…but then we need a CB in the second haha

      • Parker Richardson

How about Su’a Filo then Scott Crichton? If Van Noy isn’t there I’d say that is the next best if they decide to go in the OLB direction. He’s an animal!

  • davacho

25 picks into the draft is WAY too far to predict imho… i’m not confident in anything expect that our team’s experts will pick up the right guy (i’m hoping for a CB so i can sleep better the night of round 1). : )

  • Rob Base

Van Noy @25 Mic Drop ✌️

    • Charger2139

I will scream like a little girl if that happens! Dudes a beast and my favorite player in the Draft!

    • CALiFORNiAkiD

      Then you woke up…

  • esco charger

I dont think they will go with verrett either and I think Gilbert, dennard, fuller, and possibly roby might be gone by the time we pick. I have a wierd feeling that someone we did not expect to slip will like Barr if not I think a quarterback needy team will want to trade with us right in front of Cleveland we could possibly get nix van noy in the second and get moncrief and SJB in the third

    • Julien Bélair

verrett might very well be there with our second round pick…because of his size

      • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

        that could be amazing

      • esco charger

He could be but u guys don’t think that steve Williams is the same player as verrett ???

        • Julien Bélair

they are not the same player because they are both small and fast….. plus would you mind having two Mathieu for example? no

          • esco charger

But why waste a first on a player that u already have I think Williams is faster then verret if I can remember and we picked up ghee from Cincinnati we have Williams wright and Marshall they wont go corner first

          • Julien Bélair

unless fuller dennard gilbert even toby is there

          • Trey P

Verret is better than Williams thats why

          • esco charger

Coming out of college he is but is he better in the pros ?????? And verrett is the fifth best corner at 25 u dont take the fifth rated corner on the board who u already have a similar corner too on the roster makes no sense

          • Xia-Dawn

Verret’s better than Fuller, Roby, and Dennard. The only knock on the kid is his size, personally I still love the Verrett pick.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

could definitely see a trade happening

      • esco charger

I think that when Philly picks fuller thats what telesco is gona end up doing getting two picks in the second as well as in the third unless Barr starts slipping im doing my mock draft tonight I can see Detroit, st. Louis,Pittsburgh,Jets,Philadelphia,Cincinnati, and dont forget the niners with enough picks to trade up for a top corner which is there biggest needs I really dont think we will take a corner with our first pick whenever it is remember I said it first ernie lol

        • Julien Bélair

you guys will all be mind blowed when we trade up with packers for fuller

          • esco charger

Fuller might be gone by 21 some drafts have him as the second best corner

          • Julien Bélair

definitely the third cb to me

          • esco charger

But some players get taken before because of scheme so whether dennard is better or not some GMs might have other players higher on their boards then others when we picked fluker last year no one was happy but if that draft was to happen again I think fluker would go top 5 it just depends on where u have ur players rated and schemes

          • Julien Bélair

ya it’s all about opinions ! that was my 2 cents but he could be the first cb off the board and I wouldn’t be that surprise

          • esco charger

That’s true julien u never know thats what makes this whole draft process fun I get to talk to other people and get their opinions I love this site we are like a family here because we love our San Diego chargers

          • Julien Bélair

Yep I really like it here too a lot of different opinion and everybody know the Chargers very well

          • Eli Rodriguez

I would be passed if we trade up for him. If we’re trading up for a player it should Watkins.we have too many needs to trade up for anyone in the 1st round.

      • SDmarm17

Do you think we still have a chance at trading down if Cleveland goes QB with their first pick?

        • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

most definitely. think that is a big possibility

  • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

Watch we get Manziel, lol one of those makes no sense kinda picks that would be epic

    • Julien Bélair

and he plays slot wr and third down rb

      • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

Big fat trade chip to who ever really wants him, then we take Bridgewater and do the same thing.

        • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

          hahah

      • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

        hahahah

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

      hahahahahhaha… jaw drop

  • Julien Bélair

I just hope we don’t trade out of the first round….It would be a boring draft night

    • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

dude 6 days away, I’m buying a ton of wings and beer. So ready

      • Brett M

        Party at Blanks house!!

  • Brett M

I like how Verett plays, but damn… that picture above he looks like one of the Little Giants with his helmet being bigger than his body

    • Julien Bélair

hahaha he has a very small frame

      • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

Biggest problem with him, you take him in the first round and you then have a CB that can’t cover like 16 guys in the NFL right off the bat, that’s no fun.

        • Julien Bélair

I know ….that’s scary for a first rounder

  • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

Here’s a good one, when #25 is called. What is your first reaction if the commish says “Louis Nix III, Notre Dame”?

    • Julien Bélair

mine : hmmmm ok I get it… not so bad

      • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

        this

    • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

I’m going to keep a few inexpensive items around so that when I throw them in my drunken stuper it won’t be anything nice or anything. lol

      • Julien Bélair

there was a time that we were hoping that he falls to us…

        • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

ya he’s like the 1 guy for some reason I never wanted

      • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

can you record your reaction to the draft pick?

        • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

Ya I won’t edit the cursing, I’ll just let it fly. Then 2 mins later explain why I am wrong and I welcome Nix to Boltland.

          • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

            would be so dang perfect

          • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

Preview: “F@@@@@@@@@@@@, God D@@@@@ Son of B&&%#####, All the F@@@###$$$ Mock B@#$$#@ were right, Why the F#$%$##, I knew this S#$%$# was going to happen, Can’t TT just listen to Ernie for $%$#@ sake…………………………………You know what maybe his fat tube of goo A@#$# will dominate, who know’s he is going to be a great Charger.

          • Julien Bélair

            hahahahahahaha

          • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

            amazing!

          • Marcel West-Bailey

That’s exactly what I was thinking

    • esco charger

Instantly thinking of having one of the best run defenses in the league plus u help your most paid players on defense u don’t need to bring weddle down in the box which instantly upgrades your secondary and frees up the outside rushers to make more plays and while the oline is busy with nix teo and butler can put pressure up the middle and Chase down running backs

      • Julien Bélair

        yep not so bad

        • esco charger

Thats why im not so down on nix like everyone else is if he would of came out last year before the injury he would be a top 15 pick easy maybe top 10 knee injuries take time to heal from

          • Julien Bélair

            Yep I agree….even more for a 330+ pounds guys

          • esco charger

I agree we win the line of scrimmage it doesn’t matter who is covering who back there I remember when the raiders beat us for the first time in like ten years it wasn’t because they where the better team it was because their line was man handling our Oline we become tough on the front line and give the quarterback no chance to throw or run we win we make teams one demesional do u really think a CB in the first will do that to a team ???? We need a nasty Dline and Oline and we will have a great chance at winning any game we play in

          • Julien Bélair

That’s very true…. O-line and D-line are the most important player and teams should draft them early for that

          • Parker Richardson

Would rather go Oline in the first rather than Nix. We don’t need another injury prone player on defense! That being said, i wouldn’t be unhappy with Nix. If the weight loss really helps him then he can be a force!

          • Julien Bélair

one injury doesn’t make him injury prone though

          • Parker Richardson

True.. But wasn’t it a knee injury? Seems like those tend to be long term issues for some players that get them. Especially the big men

          • Julien Bélair

I know but right now he is not injury prone he is a big guy with knee issues. It isn’t better though

          • SDmarm17

DX84 was also just a big guy with knee issues..

          • esco charger

No DX had multiple knee surgeries there is a big difference then surgery in one knee if thats the case why didn’t the redskins pass on RG3 ??? If talent is there u take a chance

          • SDmarm17

RG III wasn’t going to be going up against 300+ lineman, maybe even two at a time. And i believe RG III was one or two years removed from surgery when he was drafted. Nix missed the last few games of this last season. Also, the heavier you are the more stress you put on the knees. He had tendinitis and a meniscus tear. Don’t know if it was on the same knee or not. Yea I guess DX and Nix are different in that sense but history of knee issues is a concern especially when you’re a lineman (3-4 NT) where you are going up against two offensive lineman at a time (sometimes). Can you imagine how much stress that is on a bad knee(s)? 300lbs (nix) + 300lbs + 300 lbs (o-line).

          • esco charger

So u would pass up a hole that is obviously the first or second biggest need on the team to help the oline that was one of the best already because he had a knee injury????? Not injury prone but a knee injury do u not expect players to get hurt ??? Its football not basketball there is injuries in this sport.if Nix was to come out before the injury he would be a top 15 pick he was a big reason manti teo was a great college player he was free to roam around because of Nix.look at all the players that has talent but because of character issues or injury issues your gona pass up on a talent like that member da quan bowers slipped Randy moss dez Bryant if talent is there u take a chance u never know who is gona pan out

          • Parker Richardson

It is true that some players have their draft stock fall because of injuries or off the field issues and end up being really good in the pros such as tyrann mathieu. And in reality you are gambling with any player you pick which is partly why i would be more in favor of an o lineman in the first. They are safe picks with low bust potential. As we saw last year, coach D is great at developing players so an o lineman with first round talent would surely contribute. And they also have the “ripple” effect similar to a great NT. And based on how all of the chargers brass are talking about lissemore it sounds like they will be looking for a rotational player later on if anything.

          • esco charger

But u can find good offensive lineman in the later rounds coach D can coach trai turner or dakota dozier and plus we need help on The defensive side of the ball thats our biggest weakness not the Oline we fixed the oline last year now its time to fix the Dline

          • Parker Richardson

I disagree that we fixed our Oline. Dunlap and Rinehart are temporary fixes IMO, both are injury prone, Dunlap especially. He may not be medically cleared to play if he gets another concussion. And we all know Clary needs to be replaced. Also, next year Oline is going to be a big need because Hardwick will probably retire also Dunlap, Rinehart, and Clary’s contracts all expire next year! That leaves us with Fluker as the only starter left… But i do agree that someone in the mid rounds with raw talent such as the two you mentioned would work too because that gives them a year to be developed

          • veazy

I’m pretty sure the shitty special teams were a big reason Oakland won that game.

      • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

That’s a big first reaction, which can be said by taking any NT

        • esco charger

Haha yeah but that would be my first thought on any player because no matter my reaction he is still a charger and I have to instantly start thinking about how that player will help our super chargers

          • Julien Bélair

            that’s it I like that

      • Sergio Quintero

There is a reason nobody can say we will stuff their pass and make them run the football, because its 20 times harder in particular vs franchise QB’s, top 5 pass defenses are exactly the top 5 scoring defenses. Not against NT just don’t think they play enough snaps to be first round picks.

My perception was forever altered about run defense against the Rams greatest show on turf in 2000, the chargers entered St. Louis with the league’s #1 run defense of course the 31st pass defense, the rams ran the ball once the entire first half, and threw it 33 times and Warner threw for 350 yards in the first half. I knew then and forever pass defense is where you have to be strong.

    • Brett M

I’d say: Telesco- Nix better pull a “Fluke”ER
Sorry, I had to do it

      • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

I’d actually feel the same way, you draft him, I then gotta like him so hope he does pull a Fluker

    • Diegoblue

I like it.. definitely not surprised.. we need a dominate NT

      • Julien Bélair

And maybe it’s better to draft the first NT of draft rather than the fifth cb

        • Diegoblue

Exactly.. Thats what I’m talking about it

          • Julien Bélair

but I do like Roby a lot

          • Diegoblue

I like him too but he makes me a lil nervous .. he does a huge upside if he can get it together

    • Marcel West-Bailey

The front office is full of liars. Why draft Nix when you love Lissemore?

      • esco charger

Because u send smoke screens to throw teams off to get players u want lissemore is not a starter in this league he is a depth player u have to be able to distinguish between the two no way TT goes into the season with a glaring hole on the most important position on a 3-4 defense

        • Marcel West-Bailey

Telesco isn’t into that “smoke screen” stuff. The Chargers think that Lissemore is the guy that can hold down the middle. They think he can start. So he’s going to be the guy in the middle with the fingers in the turf come September.

          • esco charger

Im hoping your wrong because if that’s the case we might stop the pass and rush the quarterback but teams will be able to run right up the middle on us and use the clock against us just like denver did to us in the playoff game but I think come draft day we will have a new NT we only have two on the depth chart

          • Marcel West-Bailey

I think we’re getting a NT. I’m just very confident it won’t be Nix.

          • esco charger

Idk I think he is the best nose tackle im this draft and I dont think he will make it past the Steelers in the second

          • Marcel West-Bailey

I think he is too. I know we’ve looked at Staten from MTSU so he may be the guy we draft.

          • esco charger

Idk if thats the answer if anything I wouldn’t mind ferguson

          • Sergio Quintero

Give a check to Justin Ellis & Zack Kerr they played at a higher level of play than Nix in 2013, but they definitely played against lower level of competition but at most you would spend a 3rd round pick to get either.

          • arnie

The Chargers will not go into camp with “2″ players at NT. Lissemore was brought in because Cam was not getting it done. Now they have Lissemore an Geathers.
Again, the 3-4 starts with the front 7. The DB’s had to stay in coverage longer, because of the lack of pressure up front. The DB’ were not the cause, rather they were the effect of not having players that could pressure the QB.

          • Marcel West-Bailey

No no no. I’m not saying they won’t get a NT. Just that it won’t be Nix. Unless he falls to 57.

          • Diegoblue

No doubt need that pressure up front

          • Diegoblue

I hope your wrong as well because Lissemore is not the dominate NT you need in the 34. If Nix is there at 25 I say we pull the trigger .. great defenses start in the trenches

          • Marcel West-Bailey

They’ve made it clear they like Lissemore. I personally don’t think he is the answer but that’s what it is. I do know he is a bit quicker than your average NT so that could player to your advantage but that seems to be the consensus around the team. He is the guy.

      • Sergio Quintero

Damn same reaction, you got me, I fell for your eternal smokescreen you guys pedaled for the last 2 months.

        • Marcel West-Bailey

I could have sworn Telesco said in that press conference that he isn’t down for that.

  • Brett M

I just have this weird gut feeling that Barr will fall to us. With all the QB’s that are going to go in the first (because every other team will be worried the QB they have their eye on will be grabbed) the CB’s, the WR’s teams will make runs at and Barr will freefall. Maybe just wishful thinking…

    • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

Brett I hope your right man, he would add some serious speed to the OLB group.

      • Brett M

Can you imagine Barr, Ingram, Butler and Te’o(if he steps up) for the next few years?

It would be close a SF type linebacker core

        • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

Yes I can lol, still need one of those late round NT’s to clog it up but that would be a insane Linebacker group.

          • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

I hope the Raiders take Manziel so we can sack the shit out of him 2 games a year, have Barr spy his tiny butt and just follow him around and not let him run. That would be so fun to watch.

          • Julien Bélair

and Ingram ALMOST get 3-4 sacks

          • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

Manziel would get hurt in our division, seriously he’d have to face our guys, the Chiefs pass rush, Demarcus Ware & Von Miller duo. He would not make it out alive.

          • Julien Bélair

haha I’d love to see that

          • veazy

I hope not. The Chargers suck against scrambling QBs and I wouldn’t want
to see Manziel waste his career with a shitty team like Oakland.

          • Sergio Quintero

That I don’t want the chargers have struggled vs slippery QB’s for what seems an eternity, keep their bad Oline, beef up the pass rush, and torment Shaub is good for me.

          • Pridenpoise

Just like they did to Pryor.

        • Julien Bélair

I’m sure that if Barr is there TT select him

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

            Without hesitation.

        • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

          legit

    • esco charger

I would love this pick there is a possibility of Barr falling but idk if it will happen

      • Sergio Quintero

Never say never, you know esco we share the mantra “can never have enough pass rushers”.

        • esco charger

Idk if he will be there even if Tennessee passes on him I dont think the cowboys will pass up on him now here is a question Sergio if Gilbert goes to the lions dennard to Pittsburgh fuller to Philadelphia roby to Cincinnati Barr to Tennessee and Cleveland takes manziel then who is the pick then ????? I made a mock draft off best player available and team needs and thats how it went what do we do then ????? I took nix even jernigan was gone

          • Sergio Quintero

WR esco, I’m sure you have Cooks, Lee available, no guarantees on Floyd, and Brown sucked.

          • esco charger

Cooks went to Baltimore only Lee is available but idk if they go WR im pretty sure they want to sure up that D tho and with a deep draft class sua filo went to the chiefs I only have manziel and bortles as the only QBs in the first if it plays out that way maybe marcus smith or nix I think mcgill or sjb in the second but in my mock I have nix 1 van noy 2 SJB 3 Bryant 4 turner 5

          • Sergio Quintero

So basically you have Sua-Filo, Ford, Verrett, Lee. I’m a fan of Verrett I think he can play, I would take him, from there Ford he’s better than any pass rusher you have on the roster, Lee vertical threat, Sua-Filo is last because, Clary appears to be staying, and I’m not a big fan of guards in the first round, Martin in the 2nd would make me happy.

Other people like guards in the first, I would have last year because the talent was so poor in last year’s draft, but I’m pretty simple, first round is to help you throw the ball or pass rush or cover, pass driven league.

Verrett compensates 2 inches with his 40 inch vertical, I have seen video he actually struggles some on box outs, jump ball not that much he jumps crazy well and has excellent anticipation.

          • esco charger

SUa filo went to the chiefs two picks before us so he isn’t available im not a fan of taking a guard in the first either unless its a talent like Cooper but idk about verrett he is the fifth best corner ford is better value in my eyes then verrett or nix but only a few days away brotha and we will get all our questions answered go chargers go lol

          • Sergio Quintero

I love Ford, I just think the chargers don’t like him as much, I watched the Senior Bowl, and the one thought I had I want that guy on my team.

If they take Ford you have Freeney, Ingram, Ford, Johnson, Williams, broncos you better be concerned Manning is going to take some hits.

          • esco charger

I actually wouldn’t mind Ford the only problem I have with him is the injury concern but I would rather have Ford over any pass rusher except mack Barr and clowney if we get Ford then we can get a corner in the 2nd WR in the 3rd NT in the 4th OG in 5th

          • Sergio Quintero

I would love that draft, the first 3 position can shift by how the draft goes, but the first rounds I see CB, OLB, WR it just depends on who is there.

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

If Barr is there, the Chargers will take him in 30 seconds.

      • Sergio Quintero

Nobody on the chargers roster sniffs the level of talent of that guy, he’s played 2 freaking years, of course he’s flawed, he’s produced big time even with his flaws, he’s there right down the card on move on to the next pick.

  • gpack17

at this point im thinking were picking from whoever the chargers think is the best available player between sua filo, nix, odell beckham, or fuller.

    • Julien Bélair

roby is in the mix also but ya I think it’s between those guys

      • RoyalChargers

        Roby is my pick

      • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Why is everyone making a big deal about Roby getting rolled up by the police? I finally got a chance to see the details… he had a .008 alcohol level. That is about a thimble full of beer, and he was SLEEPING in his car. not driving around at 2am. Is THAT what we are calling off-field issues these days, or did he do something else before, that I am missing? If anything, that should make him fall to us. If Fuller isn’t there, I would take Roby.. not interested in Verrett at 25, though.

        • Julien Bélair

I know right? 0,008 what the heck…that’s nothing

        • Stefanie Smith

          I like Fuller.

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

He would seem to be the consensus pick, if available.

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

It seems he is the consensus pick.

    • Marcel West-Bailey

      Scratch Nix

  • Brett M

I really don’t think Verrett would be head and shoulders above (no pun intended) the rest of our cb’s fighting for #2 spot- he’s not going to be a #1 corner in this league. I see him more like a slot cb like Gilchrist. So I’d rather see us get the bpa especially if someone falls bigtime… Barr ;)

    • Julien Bélair

Kinda boring to draft a cb in the first round that you know he can never be a #1 corner

    • BlueBoltFan

The tape on Jason Verrett is fantastic, way better than Justin Gilbert’s. The only problem is his size. I just see those big NFL WRs boxing him out all day long.

That said, I think the off-man coverage style that Pags employs would mask those size deficiencies, especially since Verrett is arguably the best tackling CB in this draft. He closes in a flash and could easily jump an out route. I wouldn’t be mad if we drafted him.

      • Sergio Quintero

Couldn’t have said it better Blue, if Grimes & Finnegan have found a way, I’m sure Verrett will find a way, the chargers are picking 25, not 5, there will be no Patrick Peterson when they pick, they have to choose what limitations they want to live with.

      • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

        agree with all of that

  • Expert

THAT WOULD BE A MISTAKE VERRETT IS THE BEST CB IN THIS DRAFT!! Sorry for caps lock but this must be said.

    • Julien Bélair

if he was 3 inches taller

    • Sergio Quintero

He’s still the best corner to play for today, probably never a pro bowler, but I wouldn’t put it past him, I really like seeing play as well, I’m fan, we will find out if Telesco is a fan in 2 weeks.

  • http://www.standupforkids.org blackroseMD1

Damn you Radio City Music Hall for being booked during the normal draft dates! I’m so ready for all the speculation to be over with, and to be welcoming the new Bolts to San Diego.

  • arnie

Funny, in an interview on NFLNetwork, he had them picking Fuller at #25. Now the Charger may lean in another direction?
How about this, ” they were not picking a CB at #25″. While i respect Acee position, that he has access to people i don’t and therefor more information than i do. I, and a few others, have been on this boat for a while. I could go into all the details but simply put, 1 CB is not going to fix the Chargers issues. They need value for who they take, and can’t afford to ride the one trick pony of “popular opinion”.
if CB is the direction they are headed, expect them to trade down, because as stated by others, the Chargers could simply be to low to pick up a CB that could have any immediate impact for them.

    • Tazzster

      Now that’s good analysis.

I think for Telesco it all comes down to value for your pick. Do you take a CB even if the guy is like pick 40 talent, just because you need a CB? Or do you pick up someone else in another area of need that is pick 25 talent?

For example if a lot of corners go early in the draft then that pushes other players out from where they would have been drafted. So, if you end up at 25 looking at the #5 CB but the #3 WR is still on board…. what do you do?

      • Nick in PB

I think they trade down and take Van Noy with their first pick. Just a gut feeling. But that happens only if the top corners are gone. Whatever happens, I trust Tolesco is going to improve this team.

        • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Whattup Nick?!!! Happy Saturday. I think we should keep an eye on the teams at the top of the draft order, that might be looking for a QB, but didn’t take one with their first pick. If a decent QB is still there at 25, a team like Minnesota might want trade up for one.

    • Stefanie Smith

If you actually think the need for a CB is a “one trick pony”, I guess that is your opinion. However, problems that never get resolved just get worse. And when you rely on the doublespeak stuff of the drafts such as the BPA, that sure seems like the “one trick pony” for an answer. I have no idea how to solve a problem, so I will just pick somebody and say it is the “best player available”. If you don’t fill a need on your team, how is that the best player to use one of your picks?

And arnie, with all due respect, I believe you used the “one LT will not fix the Chargers’ problems” last year (Dunlap — not a draft pick but a problem solved)… It didn’t solve all their problems, but it is one less to hassle with this year. And it did make the team better, wouldn’t you say?

I get that TT has to be prudent with his first round pick, so guess we will see what happens.

      • jeremiah

        excellent read here.

  • Cgoodness13

He will probably go by best available player that fits a need, probably WR but who knows

    • arnie

TT will take the BPA, put he doesn’t draft according to needs.

    • Sergio Quintero

If it pure BPA I have for while have said that will a WR at 25, Cooks & Lee will probably be there, at least one.

  • Trey P

Dennard and Verrett are the best corners in this Draft! Forget size or the Ut for that matter lol. But like telesco said You will spend your whole life tryna fid a Richard Sherman type cb.. I seen verret do more than fuller and Roby in the tape I saw and more the Shareece also this dude breaks Up everything that comes his way.. Its either him nix a guard or Wr or we arr in trouble lol

  • Julien Bélair

what if we select a tackle like Moses

    • Diegoblue

      What rd?

      • Julien Bélair

        first

        • Julien Bélair

he would back up Dunlap this year and then be our LT

          • SDmarm17

We have mike harris. I still kinda have hopes for the guy.

          • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

time to kick one of those tackles inside if we do that. haha

      • Diegoblue

Nah we don’t need a tackle in the first..

  • Eli Rodriguez

I wonder why they didn’t bring in Fuller. You guys think it’s because of his injuries?

    • RZ

It wouldn’t mean that they won’t draft him..I’m sure he’s near the top of their list.

      • Eli Rodriguez

I think there’s a possibility that he will still be there.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

i would think they bring him in because of the injuries, just to get more clarification, but they did the opposite

  • NateLew

Is Dee Ford’s draft stock falling or what? I remember we used to be lucky to see him mocked to us and since then he’s mainly slipped out of 1st round discussion.

    • Gunnar Martin

Yeah that flame has kinda died out a bit the last few weeks. I suspect it starts to heat up again in the next couple of days, but you never know. The Saints and the Cardinals make a lot of sense for him, IMO.

      • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

The Chargers have shown a little bit of interest in him, though. Not a ton, but they have definitely talked to him.

    • Sergio Quintero

Louis Riddick from NFL Insiders was pushing hard for Dee Ford and the chargers on interview he did on 1090. He made the point he’s better than any pass rusher on the chargers roster, he’s not great on run defense but you can live with that while he develops as an OLB.

      • NateLew

If we get him we might develop a pass rush but sounds like we’ll be that much more desperate for a NT with Liuget, Reyes and Ford all having pass rush strengths. Puts a ton of pressure on Butler and Te’o.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

if he is there in the 2nd round i would love it

  • RZ

Verrett would be a great slot corner..but the Bolts have Steve Williams and Gilchrist can play slot also.I believe they do pick a corner, just in a later round.I just have the funny feeling they go Pass Rush in the 1st for some crazy reason. Either way….GO BOLTZ!!

    • Stefanie Smith

We don’t even know what shape Williams is in after his injury last year. Not prudent to bank on him.

      • RZ

        He’s good to go..don’t stress.

  • jamfed

I think the order of need is OT, DL, WR, CB, OLB, OG (in that order)… Finding those late round gems is the key to the draft and CB can be found (and developed) in later rounds. Just becuase SD’s Defense isn’t the greatest, doesn’t mean they need to draft one now.
I wouldn’t be surprised if LT Cyrus Kouandjio is drafted in the first round…

    • Sergio Quintero

I think someone like Juwan James in the 2nd is more probable, in the first round I would prefer someone that will start from day one. At worst get a very % of the snaps, not spend most of his season back on the bench.

Before you say Clary, until chargers cut that guy, I will say he’s starting, that guy has something on someone, that guy is bulletproof.

    • Stefanie Smith

We need a CB that we don’t need to develop– an impact player. Why are we so content with building instead of winning now?

  • MachoMenos

Pound for pound Verrett is the best CB in the draft. Don’t know what Telesco will do come Thursday. What I do know is that Acee has no idea what he’s talking about.

    • Sergio Quintero

I don’t know it sounds like a smoke screen, Mayock throws out the chargers are begging for a corner, and suddenly in 2 days they are not interested in corners.

      • MachoMenos

Lying season is in full effect.

      • Stefanie Smith

If Telesco actually thinks we don’t need a corner, well.. I hope he is just throwing out a smoke screen. I don’t even want to go there.

  • Ernie Miller

I think if the top 3 corners are gone Deone Buchanon should be the pick. The guy is a beast and safety should be a high priority Imo

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

I would LOVE to get him.. but in the second round.

  • Patrick

This is correct as obviously the chargers will try and draft one of the better corners if there still on the board, and if not then they will have alot of other great choices in DT or OLB. Keep in mind there’s about 13-15 teams that also need CB in the first round so its going to be a slim chance to pickup Gilbert or Dennard at 25 which I doubt they’ll fall. One things for certain that we can expect to have another great draft with telasco in an AJ out..!

    • Julien Bélair

I think we will draft Roby and if he is not there probably Van Noy

      • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

I’d be a little disappointed if they took Van Noy in the first. I like Van Noy a lot, but at 25? Seems like there would be better talent on the board, even if it isn’t a position of need.

        • Julien Bélair

          I know… I also would be disappointed

        • Gunnar Martin

I can only see us taking KVN in the first if we trade down. I think the Niners could be a real possibility in that case.

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

It’s too bad he is high second round. I think he is “our guy”. But, a trade down is the only way.. you are correct. Maybe a QB will still be available, and a team with a high pick will trade up to get him. There are a few trams at the top of the draft order that MIGHT skip on a QB in the first, but want to beat the other guys to a decent QB. That is the only way I see a trade-down happening, honestly. I just don’t think SF will work with us.. or that deal happening.. call it a hunch.

  • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Verrett is a second round talent, based on size alone. He is very talented, but will lose the jump ball. If all of the top corners are off the board, it will only reinforce what a bad decision it was to not sign a mid-level veteran CB. in FA. If that happens, hopefully Su’ A Filo, Zach Martin, or someone like that is still there. On another note, Chris Hansen & Acee…. ewww.. why not throw Michael Irvin in there… lol.

    • Julien Bélair

I think there is a very good chance that the 4 best corners, Martin and Su’a-Filo are no available when we pick. If that happens we are screwed

    • Julien Bélair

      what about Dee Ford

      • Sergio Quintero

Definitely Dee Ford, better pass rusher than anyone on the roster, passing league

      • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

He strikes me as a 1-2 round guy. I get tired of taking DE’s, and hoping they can be OLB’s. He is projected to be more of an OLB in the pros.. but, I hope we get more value for a first rounder, than a player that isn’t a “lock” for the first, and played DE in a 4-3. Just an opinion.

  • Edward Sherman

i would love van noy or barr but i truly would love it if a top tier wr fell would we take him or let him pass by.
