    Whackness!

  • Trey P

Wherea Jason Verret Roby I Hope will never put on a chargers uniform

    • Julien Bélair

      Why not ?

  • Stephen

Why would v the Bengals draft a wide receiver? Makes no sense

    • Julien Bélair

They need to pair someone with AJ Green and if Lee falls to them it might be hard to pass

      • Derek

if hue jackson is of average intelligence he will make marvin jones their number 2 instead. he out produced sanu as a rookie

  • DanishBolt

    Roby over verret?
Verret is a better fit for the chargers and a better player.
Roby is inconsistent and won’t succeed right away.

    • Julien Bélair

He has a higher ceiling and could develop into a cb#1

      • Sergio Quintero

At least for one draft Telesco doesn’t seem to draft for ceilling, and his hero and “God” Polian was as boring a drafter as you may find.

Polian built the smallest roster in the league, Telesco repeatly has said in his radio interviews the tape is the most important tool and must be good for us to draft a player.

Small is important, because it means that if you draft by production you tend to draft players that don’t have ideal physical tools, by consequence you have an undersized team.

  • tubbs45

I could see the chargers drafting any of these player:

    25. San Diego Chargers: Bradley Roby, CB, Ohio State (though I think Verret would be the CB they picked)
    26. Cleveland Browns: Xavier Su’a-Filo, G, UCLA
    27. New Orleans Saints: Dee Ford, DE/OLB, Auburn
    29. New England Patriots: Kony Ealy, DE/OLB, Missouri
    30. San Francisco 49ers: Louis Nix III, DT, Notre Dame

Not sure why Nix has dropped in a lot of mocks, but he would get my vote. I know he maybe a year or two out, but he has serious potential to be the beast in the center… we seriously need a NT, cause Lissemore and Geathers are average at best.

    • Derek

no way we grabbing ealy. he is a 4-3 de in the nfl. and im a staunch defender of troughtman so i hope no xavier

      • Brett M

What about a replacement for Clary?

        • Derek

we’re got clary for another yr so y grab his replacement with a 1st rd pick? id rather grab thomas in the 4/5th rd. u know he tore his acl working out for the saints! i feel like they owe him for that.

        • Sergio Quintero

It could happen this year or next year, same situation as the OLB’s, 4 guys are probably playing their last season with the chargers this year (Freeney, Johnson, English, Keiser).

In both positions you probably already have your starters but you probably have to draft for the future, if and when depends on Telesco view on the priority.

    • Sergio Quintero

Because the 2013 tape isn’t very good, he does have the qualifier of the knee injury, but he was on the ground a lot, and he was able to be single blocked a lot.

He sounds like the right guy because the measurables are awesome, watch the USC game in particular when he faced Marcus Martin who was able to consistently single block him and get him to the ground. There are a whole lot of Marcus Martin’s in the NFL.

      • Julien Bélair

        this

  • Derek

i think a couple of these need to be fixed bengals, vikings, cowboys, broncos. vikes bought jennings and just got patterson, cowboys would grab a 4-3 dt/de hageman is a 3-4, broncos have more of a hole at mlb than dt. bengals have jones who is simmilar to keanan and sanu who is gonna be their slot wr bigger need at defense. i dont like some of ur other picks but those are just my thoughts these picks mentioned are deff not gonna happen…… but i could be underestimating the allure of bpa.

    • Julien Bélair

Hageman can play anywhere on the line. He has all the physical tools to play 4-3 DT don’t you think?

      • Derek

he has the tools but he’s raw especially becuase he trained in a 3-4. the potential is there but i see the cowboys grabbing a guy that fits for once and stop converting players, someone more polished like jernigan or easley or ealy

        • Julien Bélair

Jernigan si very likely but Ealy is a reach at 16. I think he barely is a first round pick

          • Derek

Ealy is the reason sam looked so good last season perfect 4-3 d end needs a season if trasition to olb jernigan is fools gold to me florida state rotated him a lot if he’s a 1-2 dwn player in college he deff cant take a starting spot in the pros

          • Julien Bélair

Ealy has no motor whatsoever and just don’t play on running plays.

If he falls to the chargers and they select him I will throw my nachos at the TV !

          • Derek

u must be mistaken look at his stats for pass batt downs and forced fumbles. Kony Ealy those are stats of relentless d linemen. maybe youre watching his freshman yr tape last season he made every offense work that much harder batting passes pushing linemen into running lanes the guy is disruptive on every snap. i think hed be a good 3-4 olb but a great d-end. i just cant believe u and i are watching the same player

          • Julien Bélair

Well I will give him another chance and rewatch his tape. I’ll get back to you on him

  • Brett M

I don’t know- I think Roby might be a little of a reach at 25. I think I’d rather go another direction if the top CB’s are taken- to me Roby would be a project as would the second tier CB’s we can get in later rounds

  • Edward Sherman

i would like nixxxx but would take Roby or Verret, i am also in favor of a big time receiver to pair with 13.

  • Sergio Quintero

Watch the Wisconsin & Penn State tape, any thought that Roby is a first round pick will dissapear from your mind, Roby’s measurables may be awesome but his play on the field looked more like 4th/5th round guy.

Jared Abredderis a 4th round WR went for 10 catches 204 yards almost exclusively on Roby, and almost 150 yards in the first half, he slowed down a little when Ohio St. actually had to send help to double Abreddaris. The chargers need a plug & play corner, they don’t have the luxury of “redshirting” a guy on the bench.

Sorry Julien not buying this one, plus Telesco doesn’t seem to draft guys that test of the chart with bad tape.

    • Julien Bélair

the fact that he struggled could make him stronger and he can learn from that. you know i’m an optimistic guy!

      • Sergio Quintero

If Al Davis were the chargers GM, he would be their pick, Al swung for the fence with the measurables.

But look at the chargers picks in 2013 all productive they all lack something in physical skills:
        Fluker bad feet
        Te’o Slow and undersized
        Allen slow
        Williams small

        • Julien Bélair

so you’re thinking Verrett… You know i’m Verrett’s biggest fan so if we do get him in the first I’ll be happy to be wrong in my mock.

          • Sergio Quintero

I think its Verrett or Fuller, it depends on what they want from a corner, big and physical Fuller, quick and speed to make plays on the ball Verrett, either one I’m cool.

          • Julien Bélair

Right now I want Fuller but I think he will be gone. Verrett should be there.

My joker cb is P.Désir. I think he might raise in the first

          • Sergio Quintero

Desir has the problem they you can’t start him till probably his 2nd season, massive jump in level of competition.

I like him, he looks like a really good player, but it would be unfair to throw him to the wolves.

Have a feeling that Fuller will be there and he’s their guy, because Williams is very much the skill set of Verrett, who knows we will see after the draft.

          • Julien Bélair

I hope fuller will be there.

Desir was GREAT againts small comletition I can see hin start after 6-7 games

          • Daniel Sutter

Desir had a decent showing at the seniorbowl??? Huge jump in compitition there and he showed he could transition to that? I think he could do well and want him in powder blue. Before declairing its just like a contract year, Roby just showed he didnt wanna get paid so to speak. Not saying Roby is bad but not TTs style…

          • Daniel Sutter

Would be cool with drafting him over Roby. desir has massive determination and fits TTs bill of blue collar players. I think he has the motivation and physicals to make the transition to a starting CB. 25 is a bit of a reach but he will go early second none the less, so reaching might be a must if we want the guy.

          • Julien Bélair

and he makes so many picks!

          • 760

Is it because he’s a fellow frog

          • Julien Bélair

            haha not cool not cool

        • Derek

looking at this i see tt likes guys that can do their job better than everybody else.
fluker was the best tackle available
          teo was heisman material
allen was a top wr with the lowest rated qb
willams was the best cb available
like you said he is anti al davis combines and prodays are prob used just to confirm his picks i assume. which means verret and fuller are top candidates if he’s looking cb in the 1st also means he’s looking at barr and noy

    • Derek

i saw and i believe ohio states defensive coordinator is to blame roby was put in 0 coverage and he could pull it off sometimes others he gets burnt specifically against legit nfl caliber players. roby isnt revis and in sd we wont ask him to be. put dennard verret or gilbert in that same scheme they would falter on occasion too.

      • Sergio Quintero

He did throw him to the wolves and he was supposedly the best corner in the country at that point in the season, and he got smoked.

The chargers do play a much more conservative style, but I can’t see the chargers drafting a player with some real stinkers on tape. Robinson from Penn St. had a huge game against him as well, he split the production more between both of the Buckeye corners.

If you look for the worst game on Verrett its something 5 catches for 65 yards vs LSU against 2 high level WR.

        • Derek

but look at that tape, they shoved him around the whole game. verret needs to start at nickle he will get boxed out all day on the outside. esp in the red zone. i seen roby hadndle abberdies in the red zone he has the speed and body to go around or hold his ground. verret could still be a cb on the outside but not his rookie year

          • Sergio Quintero

We will some come draft, if the chargers draft Roby they will certainly surprise me and the perception I have of Telesco trying to be Polian 2.0.

          • Derek

yeah ur right he has given us an indy look rosterwise. who know what tt will do i just think roby is a better candidate with a higher ceiling

          • Daniel Sutter

Verrett will get worked by nfl receivers in year one. Too small and this will show on the outside. If we needed a Nickle i would be chanting his name, but i think we need to give williams or gilly that spot.

    • Nick in PB

Sergio, I totally get what you’re saying and you are correct. The one thing I wonder about is why are they bringing him in? I think they like him, talent-wise, and they want to personally check out his character.

  • serg21

    1Verrett
    2 fuller
    3 Nix
    4 kyle van noy
5 Lee my top choices for the 1st round

    • Julien Bélair

      no love for roby?

      • serg21

To me roby is the 5th best corner in the Draft honestly behind gilber dennard fuller verrett then roby

        • Sergio Quintero

I can have the argument that Philip Gaines is right there with Roby for the 5th spot, he played at a higher level in 2013 and he just tested off the roof in the combine.

Philip Gaines Rice 6’0 193 lbs 4.38 speed
Bradley Roby Ohio St. 5’11 194 lbs 4.39 speed

          • serg21

I also really like the corner opposite of fuller i forgot his name but he looks like a hitter and the corners from Missouri

          • Gunnar Martin

Antone Exum is the guy you’re referring to from Virginia Tech. He might be a corner right now, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he got turned into a safety at the next level.

          • Nick in PB

I think you are speaking of EJ Gaines…. and he’s a good one!

          • Derek

If we pick him we have to grab nix or hageman part of y he was so great was because Sam and ealy had qb’s throwing off their back foot all game

          • Julien Bélair

            Good point

          • Derek

but who did gaines play against vs roby’s competition? he was the #2 cb on his own team.

      • Daniel Sutter

Character issues and a bad 2013 may sway TT…

        • Julien Bélair

yeah but some character on the defence wouldn’t hurt

  • vct

I can’t believe M Lee got picked right before us.

    • Julien Bélair

Haha did he? Oh didn’t notice when I wrote it :p

  • Matt Dickson

Chiefs fan here. I like your mock, but there is very little chance the Chiefs take an OL in the 1st round.

Of all the league, I’d expect a Chargers fan to know that after the way our backups manhandled your starters late in the season last year. ;)

    • Derek

u gotta face the broncos and the nfc west just like us alex aint so sharp when passrushers get near. plus andy loves his big guys wouldnt be surprised if yall made a play for mathis (eagles)

      • Matt Dickson

You’re are correct sir– we do have to face the Donkey’s twice per year. BUT you are incorrect about Alex Smith.

According the Pro Football Focus (link below), Alex Smith’s “Unblocked Pressure – Passer Rating” was the 4th BEST in the NFL last year.

Good news for you? Phillip Rivers was pretty good too.

        https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2014/04/04/unblocked-pressure-offense/

        • Julien Bélair

          thanks for the link !

        • Derek

We’ll see last season smith burned through about 4 te’s and was punishing his fb with poorly timed passes. Way I see it you guys need to improve ur line to help Charles or get a reciever for smith. Charles got y’all to the playoffs along with defense. What did Alex do in said playoffs. As he has done in playoffs

          • Matt Dickson

With all due respect Derek, you continue to cite things about Alex Smith without fact-checking your own statements first. Case-in-point, Alex Smith racked up over 400 yards offense, 4 TDs and ZERO INTs in the playoff game with the Colts.

So when you ask, “What did Alex do in said playoffs?”

My response would be, well, he had the highest single game QBR of any playoff QB last season.

Yes the Chiefs (a team, not a single player) lost the game in spectacular fashion; blowing a 30 point lead. But they also lost 5 starters to injury in the same game.

Besides, last time I checked it’s the defense that gives up leads– not the offense, or even a specific offensive player.

          • Derek

I respect that he had the hugest qbr the offense scored 4tds and 400 yrds. What I was referring to was his tendency to come up short. It’s safe to say both teams defenses were doing dammage control. But in the end smith I designate the blame on because besides Charles chiefs injuries were on defense. I also don’t blame the d because the d got them there. The biggest reason I blame smith is because I think he’s exorbitantly overrated 9/10 times his qbr is so high because he only attempts 5 passes (exaggerating I know that isn’t accurate) my point is he is a well seasoned vet but his leash is tighter than a hs qb and after last season ppl are ready to put him in the same catergory as Peyton. To me he’s a jay cutler. Also he’s a chief and I’m a chargers fan, I’ll lay into him every chance I get. I respect you and ur opinion as you have mine and I’m deff looking forward to next season.

          • Derek

Btw appreciate you being polite on here hope I didn’t come off as rude being absolutely sincere when I say this

    • Julien Bélair

haha come on that’s not fair!

    • Diegoblue

LOL .. What about the first game at your home turf ??

  • Tony

I would much rather see us draft Van Noy at 25 than Roby. Van Noy would be the safer choice and I know he’s supposed to be a second rounder but there’s no way we get him at the end of the second. Id love to see us stock pile picks and maybe trade out of the first altogether but I guess we have one more agonizing month left til this guessing game is over. Can’t wait!

    • Julien Bélair

Well I stated in my other post the reason why I disagree with a OLB but hey !! it might happen
