San Diego Chargers waived DT Byron Jerideau

The San Diego Chargers have released DT Byron Jerideau and that will leave the team with just Sean Lissemore and Kwame Geathers as the only nose tackles on the roster, per Eric Williams. Either the team is going to bring in a nose tackle through free agency or they are going to add some depth through the draft.

OR the team is switching to a 4-3 defense… but we already know the answer to that.

The move doesn’t make too much sense for the Chargers at this time. We will have to see who the team plans on bringing in during the draft or during the rest of free agency.

There are a few veterans available in free agency and I am sure the team has thought about bringing in one of those guys in. Lissemore is the projected starter on defense and the team will put their trust in him. Geathers was kept on the roster all last season and the team must see some potential in him, but there still is not enough depth on this roster. We will have to see what rabbits Tom Telesco can pull out of his hat for this one.

He was on IR anyway and didn’t even play. Good luck!

And he’s a bit undersized as the listed height of 6’1″ is definitely rounded up. At any rate they must not have liked what they saw. Cutting him now means he wasn’t gonna make it no matter what.

  • Julien Bélair

    wow nice pic !
    He just isn’t good I guess… orrrrrrr 4-3 FTW !!!

The good news: Louis Nix, Timmy Jernigan, DaQuan Jones, Daniel McCullers, Justin Ellis, Zach Kerr, & Ryan Carrethers are all promising NT prospects in this draft. Obviously Nix and Jernigan have first round grades, but Ellis and Kerr might actually be better values in the mid-rounds. Both have surprising movement skills for players of their size. Kerr is scary quick off the line.

Anyway, the sky is definitely not falling. Ten and two everyone.

Jones, Ellis, and Kerr are my favorites. I would love to get one of them in the draft.

  • Joel Ayala

It’s looking like we’re gonna draft Nixs in the 1st Rd now. I’m gonna trust TT to fill the NT hole some way other another. Cuz so far that’s our biggest hole. Before CB. Imo.

  • Derek

Cuttin him now means they’ve already seen a nt they like better than him. Maybe ricky from Boise state, they just scouted him yesterday. But we are deff drafting a picking up an nt. I hope we draft one and sign a udfa let him and geathers battle for a spot preseason and practice squad the other.

With lissemore starting I like jerrigan he looks like he will slide to us in the 2nd

    • blu3ny3llow

He’s more of a DE in the 3-4…I’m starting to like Daquan Jones

      • Derek

to me jerrigan doesnt seem ready but has potential we could bring him on 3rd dwns as an extra passrusher at any spot on the front 3 but daquan does look good 2. im just sec biased. especially with linemen n rbs

  • vct

you never know, we might be going 4-3 instead..

  • Marcel West-Bailey

    Ooooh nooo. Not Jerideau

  • Peter Thompson

How expected. He didn’t look very good in preseason last year, folks. Not sure he is NFL caliber. He was a UDFA, and I believe he had off field issues.. something about getting into it at a bar? Not that Keiser didn’t do that two seconds after learning we were going to the playoffs, and he is still on the roster… lol.
