Ohio State CB Bradley Roby Scheduled To Visit Chargers Park

The San Diego Chargers have a scheduled visit with Ohio State CB Bradley Roby on April 24 at Chargers Park, per Michael Gehlken. Roby would be a player that the Chargers could consider in the first or second round of the draft. He has elite speed at corner and he would immediately compete for the starting job with Richard Marshall. Anyone we bring in at the position likely would give Marshall a push for the starting job though.

Roby is someone who has the potential to be a STAR, but the BUST rate on him is scary. There are some question marks on his playmaking ability on defense. The defensive scheme that he played in during college left a lot to be desired. He relies a lot on his athleticism and he won’t be able to get away with just his athleticism in the next level. Everyone at the next level is an athlete. He will have to put some work in.

Roby’s athleticism is what makes him stand out though. If he gets beat initially, he has the speed to make up for it. He is able to react to plays that are thrown underneath quickly and can make a play on the football. He can play that John Pagano off man scheme well. He could to be a good fit for the Chargers.

The Chargers definitely have interest. They are bringing him in for a visit and want to get to know him a little better. He could be the guy that the Chargers take. What would you think of Roby in the first round?

well it looks like the Chargers want a CB in the first and they are trying to determine which one the prefer

To be honest hell no with our first pick I actually think he will fall to the second round we can probably get him in the second if not I still like mcgill over him or baptise

    • Diegoblue

Esco I doubt this guys falls to us in the 2nd round .. He his probably the best athlete at the CB position that being said he has to fix his pysche game and get his confidence back ..

      • esco charger

I wouldn’t draft roby with our first pick it would be foolish for the team to do that we can get him in the second if they like him then trade out of the pick and get multiple picks and grab him to be honest im not a big roby fan he has average written all over him not even a good tackler

      • esco charger

Reminds me of Derek cox in our system we need to stay away unless we get good value not because he is athletic means he will be good I want football players that are instinctive

        • Diegoblue

yeah no doubt .. he has instinct that wasn’t his problem this year it was mental. Derek Cox style unfortunately

  • 619chargers4life

They can talk to him, as long as these stadium meetings continue http://m.utsandiego.com/news/2014/apr/03/chargers-stadium-mayor-faulconer-acee/

Verrett, Fuller, and Dennard are the only CB’s I would take in the first. (Gilbert of course but he’s not sliding that far.).

    • Julien Bélair

      This

    • Jonah Lee

those are my three picks too, I like Fuller out of Virginia Tech, great cover man.

  • Nick Mansoor

    Talented? Yes
    Potential? Yes
    1 Round Talent? No

He isn’t as polished as the other CB’s in his class. If he falls to the 2nd or maybe 3rd then sure. I wouldn’t waste my 1st pick on him.

  • Gunnar Martin

Please no, please no, please NO!!! I really hope we don’t go that direction. Please Tom, please listen to me!

    Man, I feel pessimistic today…

What did we all say about dj fluker .. no one liked the pick but he ended up being a beast

    • C.Steele

You are correct in the response to Fluker pick by most, myself included, but I believe you missed on the reason. The reason the Fluker pick was bemoaned wasn’t because people thought he couldn’t play or would be a “bust”, it was because popular opinion was there were more important areas and/orj better players on the board I.E Star Loutiel (sp?). It seems popular consensus around this guy is it’s a 50/50 shot that he will be a bust, because he primarily relies on athleticism to get the job done.
I personally would prefer Verrett! and not this dude.

      • Derek

I think verret will be solid but I think roby has the speed and athleticism to cover #1 wr’s especially in zone where he can watch the qb. I think that game against the badgers he was the victim of a bad defensive scheme. Remember michigan state’s entire defense is stout ohio state has some good players

  • Diegoblue

If we get the 2012 version I’m all in

  • 619chargers4life

Ok so I just read an article on the UT, Roby awaits chargers visit . I haven’t done to much research on him because of his troubles . But after reading that, I’m going to do a little more research on him and see where I stand . Everybody deserves a chance.

    • Derek

I agree plus him training with addae I think is a good sign. I think it’s been too long since we drafted a star cb.

  • Derek

I like him over fuller because fuller won’t last 10 games
