Questions For Malcom

So, I have been promising to reveal something big for about a week and a half now. Some of the commenters on here have been going crazy waiting for the “Big News”. Well… the time has come to pull the curtain back, and reveal the surprise.

Tomorrow morning, I will be conducting a phone interview with… (drum roll please)…. San Diego Chargers wide receiver Malcom Floyd.

I will also be asking a couple of questions that you wanted to hear answers to. As you can imagine, I will be asking the obvious ones… but I want to get Bolt Beat’s commenters to be involved, as well. So, please let me know what you want me to ask him. Please keep it respectful, as I won’t ask silly questions. However, I will pick from the best ones. I can’t get them all in, but I will certainly try to get in most of them.

Have a Happy Friday!

Keep Bolting Toward Excellence!

      You mean peter?

      • Marcel West-Bailey

        Delete this comment lol immediately

        • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

          What did it say? Lol

          • Marcel West-Bailey

We want to know whether he prefers Big Macs or Whoppers

  • afroamongfew

Well, you should ask him about how he feels when he’s working out, what he’s limited to, and (if you’re willing) if he’s confident that he’ll make it back to the football field again. I imagine he will probably stock answer those, but it’d be nice to hear him say it.

What I’m curious about, personally, would be if he’d be willing to step aside from the WR1 role and allow Keenan Allen to assume the WR1 role even if he was able to return to the field.

    • Stefanie Smith

I don’t think Pete should ask that to a guy on the mend who has been with the Chargers so long. Keenan Allen is a rookie. A rookie with potential… that already pouts as it is. No need to ask Malcolm if he would step aside for Keenan Allen. It would be rude.

The guy needs some help here. He damn near got destroyed for the Chargers. So, ask him upbeat questions… not whether he is willing to take a back seat to some kid who hasn’t paid his dues yet.

Ya know what? Pete asked to take a picture of Keenan Allen and Allen said no. He is very talented and very much already a pain in the ass.

      • Trey P

Stephanie with all respect Allen is surpass Floyd talent wise

        • Stefanie Smith

okay, One rookie season. Sure. Not going to argue with ya.

          • Trey P

Stephanie cleary Floyd is not a playmaker like Allen and consider Floyd has never had 1000 yards in one season. Look I like Floyd hes cool but our season woulda been a disaster if it was Flood and Brown as our starting Wrs.

          • Alter Ego

Without a doubt having ORY Allen rocked for the Bolts – that wasn’t the plan – McCoy changed the plan when we lost DX and Floyd – Rivers made it so…Allen got the balls because – well…he is damn good and the plan changed to feed him the ball.
I don’t think our season would have been a disaster – it would have been just a different plan. Executed by our pro bowl QB Rivers.

      • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Keenan didn’t say no… he just didn’t say yes. Let’s not jump to conclusions. That could have been for any number of reasons. He was clearly tired, and the Chargers assistant whisked him off and said he would come back to take one, which was not true. I was a little surprised that he was not as jovial as the rest of them, even if they did lay an egg in that KC game with playoff implications. Having said that.. Thomas Keiser was very jovial.. and that didn’t work out too well.

P.S. – the Chargers might be reading this thread folks, so let’s keep it classy San Diego ; )

        • Stefanie Smith

Pete: I am going to do a re-read on my posts and will edit anything that could be construed improper or troublesome. Know what I mean, jelly bean?

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Naw… nothing like that.. but, I do know they have checked up on us before.

    • Trey P

Willing?? He already has The Number 1 wr role!! Malcom is 2

      • Stefanie Smith

Not according to McCoy. What are you talking about? Malcom was #1 until he got injured. That is why Keenan started pouting because he didn’t start in the first game. He said he was thinking of getting out of football and working on his music. lol

      • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

So now we have the number one and two roles locked up…what was the question again.. lol.

        • Aaron Johnson

That brings up a good question: Assuming Floyd is able to come back this season, who does he feel would be the best compliment (in WR3 spot) to he and Allen?

  • powderBLUE801

Ask him if there are any recivers entering the draft that he would like TT to draft or if there are any he would prefer to play with.

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

That is on my list already.. good question.

  • Cgoodness13

Ask him if the team has any friendly competitions like arm wrestling, sprints, etc

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

YES!!!!! I’M ASKING THIS. CAPS off.

  • Julien Bélair

    Good job Pete!

Ask him if he think the Chargers should draft a wr in the first round!

    • Stefanie Smith

How about who does he see as the best WR in the draft?

      • Julien Bélair

I thought about that too but he will say evans or watkins so….or maybe he didn’t even watch their tape! Haha

  • Nick Mansoor

How do you feel about the Chargers receiving corps right now? Do you think our number 2 receiver is on this team as we speak or are we drafting one?

And most importantly, how is the neck doing

    • Stefanie Smith

Great question, Nick. Pete, just let Malcom know that Charger fans hope he is getting better too. I love that guy.

  • Stefanie Smith

Omg –clapping and also wishing you a Happy B-day.

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Thanks for the birthday wishes Stefanie. Just trying to keep content frrrrrrreeeeesssshhh… ckikka chikka ; )

      • Alter Ego

Imagine that – we share the same birthday.

        • Stefanie Smith

Happy belated B-Day to you also, Alter Ego.

        • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Is your birthday the 27th too? Or is it the 28th?

          • Alter Ego

The 27th…your my b-day bro…didn’t know it either

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

See.. we aren’t so different… you and I.

          • Alter Ego

            I tea bagged your drum-set Bro…couldn’t resist.

  • Stefanie Smith

Pete: Some day tell us how you landed this interview. That has to be a good story. Do you know Malcom well? His agent?

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Idon’t know Malcom well. I’ll tell you when I post the article, actually.

  • esco charger

Ask him how he feels for the upcoming season
If he plans on playing and if he does what are his plans past this season and does he like the WR on the team at the moment or does he think we should add a player from the draft or go after Djax

    • Stefanie Smith

      Good question, esco.

      • esco charger

        Thank u thank u lol

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

I have djax questions too.. good comment.

  • Phil C Strom

First of all I believe that if Floyd returns to the chargers we don’t need to draft a wr because it will be him Allen royal, and then u have tutu and Vincent brown as backups… That is the question though will he be able to return by the 2014 season?

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

      It changes everything, doesn’t it?

  • FitzWilly

    Congrats PT
that sounds so friggin awesome :)

Ask MF80 if he ever had the urge to hang Wrinkles by his Nut-Sack
and beat him like a Pinata with a pool cue

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Hahaha… he is so polite.. I dunno.

      • FitzWilly

I think we both know the answer lol :)
        heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeell Ya

MF80 is a true gentleman, and a Class Act
He reminds a lot of Charlie Joiner
I can definitely see him coaching in the future

        • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

          Me too.

        • Stefanie Smith

That he is, Willy. I love that guy. I am so happy for Pete. It was a great surprise.

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

            Worth the Walt, right?

  • FitzWilly

    Happy B-Day PT
    Have A Great One

  • 619chargers4life

I would ask him, is it true the chargers bought a piece of land for a additional building on chargers park and how is the construction going ? Will it be ready this season ?

  • Connor ferrante

Does he plan on retiring after this season when his contract is up? Or does he wanna keep playing?

  • Gunnar Martin

    1. I think it would be interesting to hear his thoughts on Vincent Brown. Why he might have struggled, what he really excels at, why he could get better.

    2. Any inside experiences that aren’t commonly known among the media or us fans are always fun to hear.

    3. Are there any newer guys on the team that could beat him or Gatesy (when healthy) in a game of 1-on-1 basketball?

    4. I’ve always found it kinda funny that his older brother got to name Malcom after himself. Did he ever have any mix-ups, etc. in his childhood because of that?

This is so awesome Pete. The surprise was totally worth the wait! Will we be able to hear the interview, like from a recording or something?

    • Alter Ego

      Those are fabulous questions Gunner.

    • Stefanie Smith

I like question number 4, Gunnar. And I agree with Alter Ego. All great questions.

      • Gunnar Martin

        I tried my best :)

  • Derek

I just wanna hear what he wants the fans to know. He’s a football player he can’t tell us how he’s really feeling that would risk his job. Can’t tell us how many yrs he has left either. I just hope he’s on the up n up and knows when to say when.

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Why would Malcom have anything to hide? I don’t. Telesco doesn’t. The Chargers don’t. Nobody is tipping their hand.. know what I’m sayin? Lol.

      • Derek

Everything he says can be used against him look how jets did Sanchez…,, i don’t blame em. But still. Cut because “he didn’t pass the physical” u don’t think if he says I’m 90% or It hurts to snap my head around to track the ball it won’t be brought up durring his next meeting when his contract is evaluated? Next man up isn’t always good to hear

  • Robert Weisfeld

Ask him if the chargers draft a receiver who he would like to see drafted and if the chargers sgin a free agent receiver who dose he think that should be ?

  • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

There was an earthquake right now.

  • Derek

Ask him about mike and how he has changed this team? Don’t wanna ask him about other players, that’s kinda offensive. In your time away did you improve any aspects of your game ( gain weight to be more of a poseeesion reciever) was doctor cho a trustworthy physician? Since u can’t dunk anymore what’s your next end zone dance

    • Stefanie Smith

The Dr Cho question is a good one. Yeah. And the end zone dance. Yes. lol He would like that.

  • Derek

Asking him about other players is kinda like screaming your old news, washed up, insignificant. Plz show Floyd some appreciation for busting his ass to get ready for next season. He’s not a scout or the towel boy don’t address him as such

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Depends on how you ask him. Context.

      • Derek

Hope ur right. Not many players care for sd even less nfl analysts. Can’t afford to lose another guy

  • vct

    So Pete, what’s your surprise?

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

      The Bolt Beat Readers.

    • FitzWilly

      Holy Moly

  • powderBLUE801

You should ask him if they have madden tournaments. And if so who is the best.

    • Marcel West-Bailey

      Me!!

      • Gunnar Martin

        I beg to differ.

        • Marcel West-Bailey

          You don’t want it lol

          • Gunnar Martin

Hahah let me just say I am the King of Madden. Downright playa ova heah ;)

          • powderBLUE801

I live and breath madden. I have to get in at least two games a day. My lady thinks I’m crazy. Lol

          • Marcel West-Bailey

            Two? That’s it? lol

          • powderBLUE801

            At the least. Lol

          • Marcel West-Bailey

That’s what everyone says before I beat them lol have you played someone who actually plays football?

          • Gunnar Martin

            I have indeed.

          • Marcel West-Bailey

You play on PSN or Live?

          • Gunnar Martin

PSN, but I haven’t played since the start of the school year. It’s been TERRIBLE. Unfortunately, my ps3 is getting pretty old and beat up, so it’s acted up the few times I have tried to use it in the last couple months. I think I’m going to just start from scratch this summer- new system, new games, new everything. I MISS MY MADDEN.

What about you, PSN or Live?

          • Marcel West-Bailey

PSN. If you ever get online for Madden 25 let me know.

          • Gunnar Martin

            Will do :)

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

I asked him this… lol. Got your answer.

      • powderBLUE801

Nice. And??? Or are you going to put it in your next article?

        • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Yeah… I have to put it in article form still. My wife has a birthday party planned for me today, so I won’t be able to sit down until tomorrow night to get it handled. Posting it Monday.. part one of the interview, at least.

          • powderBLUE801

Ok cool. Have a good birthday bro.

  • Sergio Quintero

    The obvious questions:
    1) How is the rehab looking?
    2) What are his chances of returning?
    3) Are the doctors suggesting he retire?
    4) If he gets the go ahead will he return to play?

    A few extra questions:
    1) How did he feel in the McCoy offense?
    2) What kind of season did he think he was going to have in 2013?
    3) What date has he set as a goal to return to the team?
    4) How does he see the future of this offense with Gates and him being tenured, and young developing players like Allen & Green?
    5) How much does the loss to the Jets in the playoffs haunt him?
    6) Will he change his style of play because of the injury? Does he feel differently about going up the middle of a defense in the future?
    7) Does he feel this team in 2014 gives him a chance to get a super bowl ring?

    • Stefanie Smith

The question about his opinion about the McCoy offense is a good one. It would be interesting to get his opinion.

      • Sergio Quintero

Lets hope Malcom is part of this team, I’m optimistic considering he’s taking questions about his future, meaning he has a future.

  • Daniel Sutter

How about asking how he has been training and if his injury allows him to play, will he be in football shape conditioning wise…

  • Alter Ego

Ask him as a our veteran WR, will he assume a leadership role on the team and with the WR corps …and in doing so. how will he make the needed impact that will be a difference maker in improving results for the team?
Nice job on scoring the interview Peter – Malcom Floyd is very relevant.

    • Stefanie Smith

Good question, Alter Ego. Yeah, will Malcom assume a leadership role?

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Asked him this for you… thanks for the props.

  • julian vesga is chargerfan#21

    Anquan boldin 2.0

Why couldn’t we get Andre Robinson

    • Sergio Quintero

A definite consideration in the 2nd round, might make it there because of the depth at the position.

  • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Alright… done deal. It’s my birthday weekend, and my wife has a huge party planned for me in L.A. tonight, so I won’t have a chance to get it all down until tomorrow night when I get back. I asked a lot of the questions you wanted to ask. I also asked some questions that weren’t on here, that you will like. There was a lot of information, so it might have to be a two parter.

    • Gunnar Martin

Yayyyy! Can’t wait to see how it all went down :D

  • Aaron Johnson

Question about Defense: Who in the secondary does Floyd see as having a breakout year? I figure it would be good to get the info from a WR perspective.

  • Alter Ego

I’m looking forward to the article -like many other Bolt fans – I appreciate Floyd – when he is healthy he rocks.

  • powderBLUE801

Don’t want to bug but where is tha article.
