If Morris Claiborne Were Available, Would You Be Interested?

Just looking around at the options for a corner in the league and noticed that there may be a former first round draft pick that could be on the market. The Dallas Cowboys selected Morris Claiborne in the first round a couple of seasons ago and he has been a bust for the Cowboys since his arrival. Coming out of college, scouts that he could be the next coming of Deion Sanders though. It just has not panned out in the last couple of seasons and he might need a new environment to get his mojo going.

The Cowboys could be shopping him around since he has lost his starting job with the squad and he still has some value to their roster. With the depth in the coming draft strong, they could be willing to make a move to stockpile some picks.

Would Claiborne be someone who brings some interest to the roster? He still has potential despite his poor play on the field the last couple of seasons. If the Cowboys have him dangling on the market, the Chargers should take a flier and see how much it would cost to bring him in. If the cost was a 3rd round draft selection, would you make the move? Would you take the chance on the former first round draft pick?

very good topic Ernie! thumbs up for being creative with the lack of news.

I would trade a 3rd pick for him any day. He is still very young and he seems not to like playing in Dallas. But the guy is very talented

    • powderBLUE801

Cox was young too and that didn’t pan out to well!! I honestly think this guy will not even be in the NFL in three years. He is just not a good NFL CB he was great in college but we all know how that goes!

      • Julien Bélair

        it is possible…..

  • ioane

I’m sure Dallas would take a 4th or 5th for him if they really want to trade him. Why give up a 3rd for a guy that lost his starting role on one of the worst defenses in the league. I do want to trade for him but not for a 3rd.

  • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

Isn’t he supposed to be really dumb? If Darren Sproles is worth a 5th rounder, I wouldn’t give anything lower then that for him, if we traded a 3rd rounder that could have been a rookie stud CB I would cry.

  • Chris Delacalzada

I have finally accepted that Telesco is rebuilding this team from the draft. With that being said, I would stay away from Claiborne and not trade any picks. Significant FA signings will not come until after 2015.

  • tonyloc1970 .

It might be worth it. I don’t know enough about him to make a call. I’d like to hear what others think of him.

Dang! Ernie hates me… bumped my article after it was up for two seconds… Lol!

    • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

      Bumped with the quickness

      • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Well… at least I got my fifteen minutes of fame… 17 minutes to be exact ; )

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

sigh… my bad. didn’t even see it and then i noticed there was comments going to a post and noticed you had put one up just before i did. I usually look at that, but was in a daze when i put it up. was trying to think of a way to get yours back at the top

      • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Lol… Dude… don’t even sweat it. I know you are usually trying to keep things flowing, and half the stuff you post is on the fly. It’s not in my nature to not give you a hard time, though = )

  • Diegoblue

What has he done in the league as of yet ? Nothing.. I wouldn’t give up a 3rd rounder for him. This draft is too deep at the CB position.. I’ll take my chances on a rook.

  • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

I don’t know…. something about the way he got all weepy when he was chosen in the draft reminded me of Warren Sapp… problem is, he doesn’t appear half as talented to make up for it. The fact that he got benched worries me… let’s not pick up anymore CB’s that were benched by their previous team. Maybe for a 5th or even 6th rounder, simply because Dallas may have been expecting him to do too much?

  • Roy Hobbs

IDK about this one…. if the production was there, then yeah but if it was they wouldnt let him go.

  • Calman21

Claireborne has serious talent and has been poorly developed. Everyone on the Dallas suffered under Monte Kiffin’s Tampa 2. I think a 4th or 5th rounder would be about the right price. I would love to see him in SD with some proper training I think he would be a beast.

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

And Pagano is better at developing talent? Not trying to be a smarty pants.. just not thrilled with how he uses players, or how the secondary was coached last season.

      • Calman21

No, but then I was against retaining Pagano. I would be looking more at our CB coach in this case and not Pagano. The secondary coach might need to go with Pags. One thing I will throw out there is Wright seemed to get better as the year wore on.

        • NativeSanDiegan

I think Wright would already be a great corner with proper coaching and coverages

    • NativeSanDiegan

Don’t see a lot of development with our D, especially at corner. I’ve already given up on Pags. His “off” coverage is ludicrous, ridiculous, and downright stinks.
Oh sorry Pete, didn’t notice your post

  • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

Did we get a comp pick yet? Hoping we can get a 6th for Shawn Phillips and not a 7th, Ravens might get 2 4th and 2 5ths, looking back at all those guys they just “Let walk” last year, this might be why they did that, with how deep this draft if that’s almost or is unfair lol.

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Well.. wish that was us… that’s all I got.

      • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

My thing is how is Benard Pollard worth a 4th or 5th and Shawn Phillips with 9.5 sacks 2 FF and 3 FR’s in 2012 how is that worth a 7th?

Also loosing a Top 5 in the NFL guard and gaining a old pass rusher that couldn’t get a sack and played 1/3 of our games shouldn’t be a wash, we should get a comp pick for Vasquez too.

  • Conor Cahill

    nothing more than a 5th

  • 619chargers4life

I’m terrified of another corner experiment.

  • Mark Viguri

The NFL has changed you don’t see teams giving up multiple #1′s or #2′s anymore or even one 3rd round pick. Vets just aren’t worth much under the new agreement, except for the weak armed clip board carry types .

  • powderBLUE801

    Ummm hell no!!

  • Tony

I think I would rather draft Aaron Colvin for whatever round pick we would we be trading for Claiborne.

  • jamfed

I wouldn’t trade 3rd round pick for him. And I don’t think anyone would… There could be some really good CB’s in the third round, like LOUCHEIZ PURIFOY or STANLEY JEAN-BAPTISTE

Claiborne has had multiple schemes, but he’s proven not to excel (yet)…
