Chargers Receive No Compensatory Draft Picks

The San Diego Chargers did not receive any compensatory picks for last season after they had lost players like Louis Vasquez and Shaun Phillips to free agency, per Michael Gehlken.

They will have the 25th selection in each round of the draft and will not get any extra selections. The Chargers are going to build up the team from the draft, but they won’t be getting any love from the compensatory picks.

Even though we lost some talent in free agency, the Chargers didn’t lose enough in order to get a compensatory selection. The science behind getting a comp pick is a mystery. The Chargers get no love this season for it though.

We never get any love.. Ever notice that? Or is it my victim stance that comes from being a fan of all San Diego teams? Lol.

        You are not imagining it.

  • jamfed

…Louis Vazquez is a pro-bowl OG, who left town for the big bucks… And nada? Dang!

  • BlueBoltFan

Yeah, that sux. I forgot about signing Derek Cox to a $20 mil. contract negates the compensatory pick for Vasquez. Also cutting players like Meachem, Gaither, and Cox don’t count towards comp picks.

  • Nick Mansoor

That’s lame. Should have at least got 1-.- smh

  • Julien Bélair

    boooooooooooo

      Hahahaha! That made me laugh.

This is evil at work. Nuff said.

  • Gunnar Martin

I think we can all agree this system is RIGGED. How the heck did the Niners get a freaking third rounder while we got nothing for letting Vasquez, Phillips, and Jammer go???

    • Stefanie Smith

That’s the problem. We let them go with no intention of working out a deal with them. We moved on. Not like we fought to keep them.

I always wondered if they were so good, why were they allowed to walk? Especially Franklin and Phillips. I dont know. Vasquez — I believe maybe we should have gotten a pick for him because didn’t we try to get him signed?

      • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

“Vasquez — I believe maybe we should have gotten a pick for him because who did we replace Vasquez with that is equally talented?”

Get ready to throw up in your mouth….. we replaced him with Jeromey “he ain’t so bad” Clary.

  • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

Dear NFL if we aren’t going to get any of these comp’s ever, can we just get rid of them entirely so we don’t have bonus teams stealing all the good picks at the end of each round? BOOO i say

    • Gunnar Martin

      Well said!

      • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

Im still mad we didn’t get a comp pick, I’ll probably be over it tomorrow just the thought of free extra talent makes me want some comps.

  • Diegoblue

    Damn ..

  • veazy

Well, a lot of you always seem to complain about the Chargers not signing free agents…

    • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

Right, so next year were going to be get comp picks like crazy (maybe) Cam Thomas to the Steelers that’s a easy 7th rounder, Whitehurst’s 8 mil in Tennessee that’s a easy 7th rounder that’s about it we signed all our guys for once lol.

  • serg21

How do we not get one but the niners do?

    • arnie

This is where aj smith was truly gifted, and excelled.

  • Derek

So the broncos who took our players and played free agency like bama does hs gets more love than us?

    • Stefanie Smith

I think we got no extra picks because we didn’t make an offer to these guys. We let them walk out the door and never offered them anything. They were free agents and from what it looks like, Chargers’ organization had no intention of re-signing these guys.

      • Derek

Yeah was about to talk about the ravens. Welp, glad Tt focused on depth cuz goddell sure ain’t gonna hook us up like annual favorites (steelers, broncos, ravens, cowboys, ect)

  • Stefanie Smith

Here is what nfl.com says the rules are: “Under the rules for compensatory draft selections, a team losing more or better compensatory free agents than it acquires in the previous year is eligible to receive compensatory draft picks.”

I think South Park already cracked the code… Family Guy uses the same system for writing their jokes, as the NFL does for picking compensatory picks.. basically, they use manitees. Watch this.

the play of the king, woodhead, and both guards, salary of cox sure wasm’t his play, and marshall hurt are comp picks of what we would have got from mainly vasquez and phillips also other fa’s.

  • Padraigh Keogh

So we have 6 pick then? Did we trade a 7th round pick for Lissmore?

    • C.Steele

Yeah. We did, but I think that’s from the 2015 lot.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

pretty sure it is for 2015 7th round pick
