Chargers in Attendance for Notre Dame Pro Day

The San Diego Chargers were at Notre Dame’s Pro Day today and so was the rest of the league. Every team in the league was in attendance to check out what the Fighting Irish had going on, per John Heisler. The Chargers must have some interest in Louis Nix and how he performed on the day.

There are a number of prospects that the teams could hae had their eyes on for the day though. Zack Martin is another player the Chargers could have had their eyes on during the festivities.

Nix is a name that has been linked to the Chargers for a minute. He is a big man who can hold down that nose tackle position for the team and improve every other area along the defense with his presence in the middle. He is a big dude that can lock onto blockers and free up his teammates to make some plays on the defensive side of the football. He would be a massive upgrade over Cam Thomas on defense and could give the defense that extra bit that was needed to look decent.

Here are some updates on Nix out from Notre Dame:

How many reps did he bust out? that video seems to have him doing 10,000? That’s quite strong, love the shirtless 40 yard dash too.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

it was about 10,001 reps…. couldnt find the actual number of reps he put up.

he has to be aware of the wind resistance that could ruin his time.

Scouts saying he could be the next Wilfork is pretty encouraging, I wonder if the Steelers take him if TT would even consider Hageman if he’s there? Same peeps that consider Nix the next Wilfork think Hageman could plat NT part time and DT the rest for best results, that kinda is exactly what we do.

i wonder if he has produced enough to telesco’s liking. Telesco likes the production on the field

And we still have almost two months of waiting….

IF SD does land Nix, I just thought maybe he’d bring that attitude to the DLine… Since Jamal, & the dude w/ his hair & smart car, that line really hasn’t had a spark… Cam was a real let down…..,

            I’m getting tired already…

          • I_Bleed_Powder_Blue_801

But 4 reals though, how many In n Out Dbl Dbls u think Nix can eat in one sitting???

          • I_Bleed_Powder_Blue_801

Another reason for me to hate Goodel…he’s wussifying the game, changing probowl date/location, and draft date too … Man this guy!

Don’t cry it’s going to be okay.

        • Anthony95

That is how I see him the next Wilfork. Big, tough, physical, smart, hard-nosed NT that will improve the entire defense.

My latest mock draft had Nix, Fuller, Verrett and Roby available at 25.

Here is my latest mock draft: http://espn.go.com/nfl/draft2014/features/draftmachine/result?picks=33597,34748,34108,33601,34736,33612,34107,33061,33609,34749,34122,33051,33619,33053,34120,34113,33071,34112,33603,33600,33604,33632,34125,33608,33599,32176,34111,33087,33617,33607,33605,34718

Man I hope I’m right. Here is a breakdown:

-Clowney at #1 – how can Hou pass him up to pair with JJ Watt (scary combo)

-1 QB – (Carr at 26 to CLE) – not buying Bridgewater or Manzel at all – other option for Cleveland’s #2 pick was Bortles but think Carr is more ready day 1 starter

-9 O-Lineman (6 OT & 3 OG) – though a few OT might be Guards in NFL) – 3 of top 5 picks are here along with 5 of the top 7 picks going O-Line

-4 DE (HOU, CHI, PHI, & CIN)

-3 LB (2 OLB & 1 ILB) – think JAX goes def with a def minded coach Bradley trying to build the EC version of Seahawks. Then have ARI & DEN taking the other two

-4 DT (including Nix) – Hageman to MIN, followed by Donald to DAL (paired with Melton is a big upgrade on D-Line for DAL), then we get Nix, & Jernigan to SF

-2 S (DET & STL) – both need impact safety (DET went S before 1st CB selected) just gotta a feeling here with such a deep CB class & only 3-4 day 1 starters at S

-4 CB – TEN, NYG, NO, CAR (replacements for FA losses for TEN & CAR) continual def upgrade for NO backfield is now scary good, the NYG shore up backfield as well

-4 WR -BUF, PIT, GB, SEA – don’t see Watkins getting past BUF, with PIT with signing Cam Thomas think Mike Evans is the pick here, GB & SEA replace loses with best player available at a pos of need

-1 TE (NE) just gotta feeling they replace Hernandez

          What do you guys think?

          • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

makes sense… think that the steelers will get after evans as well. they have been hunting for that size at receiver. they are a team to watch for nix though. them and the packers.

          • Anthony95

GB resigned BJ Raji. So, don’t see them going RD 1 at NT. Maybe later like RD 2 or 3

        • Eli Rodriguez

I can def see him being the next Wilfork. I just hope that the knee isn’t going to be a problem. I remember reading an article that was pretty much saying his knee is never going to be the same.

  • tbell11

The only team I see selecting Louis Nix ahead of the Chargers is the Steelers, but they need to give Big Ben more weapons first. Packers resigned Raiji so he could slide to us.

    • Anthony95

Yep exactly as I see it in my mock draft above. Only PIT & GB needed true 3-4 NT and both filled that need. Both need WR help and that added with injury history of Nix means he will be there for us at 25. Others who need either DT or DE help won’t go for Nix as they will take more speed guys or true 4-3 DT like Tuitt, Nix’s teammate.

It will end up being a huge steel as I see this guy being in Pro Bowl no later than year 2 and possibly in running for rookie defensive player of the year honors.

Would be awesome to see Te’o and Nix playing together. Add to that how Te’o can, and I’m sure has, given insight into Nix and work ethic, class room, heart, etc. to Telesco, McCoy, and Pagano not to mention how Te’o has probably helped Nix prepare for interview and what those guys want to see from him.

It truly is one of the easiest and most sensible fits in this years draft for any player/team combination
