Updated AFC West Super Bowl Odds After First Week of Free Agency

After the first week of free agency, Las Vegas has reset their odds on each team’s chances to win a Super Bowl. The San Diego Chargers odds didn’t get better and it didn’t get worse. The moves that they made have kept them at a 33-to-1 odds to win the Super Bowl.

The other teams around the AFC West have made some movement though. The Denver Broncos were at 8-to-1 odds to win the Super Bowl and improves to 7-to-1 odds to win the Super Bowl. After all those moves in free agency, you would hope that they have some better odds to get there. All those moves still didn’t put them as the favorite to win the Super Bowl next season. The Seahawks still are the favorites.

The Oakland Raiders made a ton of moves and their odds have gotten worse. They were at 75-to-1 odds and now are at 100-to-1 odds.

The Kansas City Chiefs were at 28-to-1 odds and now are at 33-to-1 odds, similar to the Chargers odds.

After all the hype of free agency, the Chargers have not gotten better or worse in the odds and getting some good players in the draft will give us more love.

I wonder if Jared Allen is really thinking of pulling a Brian Ulacher, seems like he is getting butt hurt from the offers he is getting an is thinking of retiring. I’d sign him to a 1-2 year deal and trade Reyes for a 3rd or 4th round pick.

    • Sergio Quintero

They wouldn’t play the same position, Allen would OLB for this team, it would imply to get rid of Freeney or Johnson.

Reyes is not a bad player, he’s terribly misused, he’s a poor man’s Sapp, not a Brett Keisel, he’s not at his best playing man up and holding up a guard, he’s best at trying to penetrate.

Pagano should either go to 4-3 (not happening) or trim down his snaps to make him exclusive to the nickel defense, and exclusively tell him to pass rush.

      • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

Oh in that case I wouldn’t want him, we couldn’t trade JJ he’s too old to get a solid pick.

Been reading Mock draft’s all morning, I guess I need to get ready to start liking Nix. I wonder if Jernigan or Hageman fall to us I’d rather have either and try to get them to add 10 lbs, both played NT and DT and are waay better athletes and don’t come with knee issues.

        • Sergio Quintero

I haven’t heard many draft gurus think that Hageman can play NT, they think he would be too small, and doesn’t play stout enough. Seems like its Nix or bust to me, or Lissemore starting again.

          • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

            Do you like Nix?

          • Sergio Quintero

Yes, but with a big qualifier, I think he can play NT, but the fact he’s so damn “big” means he will get limited snaps plus he already has knee problems, that I don’t like; because of that I prefer a CB over him, CB gets 100% of the snaps if healthy.

We know the chargers have such great luck with injury prone players, not!!

          • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

Ya that’s exactly why I’m iffy on him, that and he’s Big & not so quick. I just kinda love Hageman’s size he’s got that monster giant look to him at 6’6 312, enough to wear I’d draft him and play more 4-3 and less 3-4 and use Lissemore when we do use that set.

          • Sergio Quintero

Hageman to me is either 3-4 DE or 4-3 DT, he’s not a NT in my book, plus the chargers already invested in Liuget & Reyes. I will admit not a fan of Pagano, he will not adjust his defense for anyone player’s talent.

          • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

            Damn him!

          • Julien Bélair

In my latest mock draft…. he is selected by the Miami Dolphins

          • Julien Bélair

Ya I am a bit scared about Nix’s knee too

      • Stefanie Smith

Sergio: That is what I cannot take with these older coaches—maybe even some younger ones. They will not adapt to the players they have. They insist on their system –whether it is working or not. I resented that with Norv. I remember when Rivers was screaming at him in the background and Norv just acted like he could not hear him. It was the Cleveland game. Plus Norv has stated he does not believe in the “no huddle” offense. And that goes right along with no budging from his system. Martz was like that and darn near got Cutler killed one year. Josh McDaniels and Spagnolo did it to Sam Bradford. Didn’t matter if he could do what they were selling or even if they had the players to do it. Bradford eventually tore something and was out.

        • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

that is what kills me with Pagano…. McCoy seems to adapt, his d.coordinator does not

          • Sergio Quintero

This defense will never be great with him here, they will be what we have seen from Pagano, some good stats here and there, not a train wreck, some good games here and there, followed by some 30 plus point/500 yard debacle to drive you crazy.

        • Sergio Quintero

Norvy is the ultimate genius in his head, my brilliance is too great to adapt to these childish players. My chalkboard design is perfect.

  • Stefanie Smith

Well, as long as Las Vegas odds makers don’t think we have gotten worse, I can sleep tonight.

    • Sergio Quintero

Concise and to point, I like it.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

cant get worse when we don’t lose any players

      • Stefanie Smith

If everyone else moves forward and we don’t move proportionately, then, maybe the distance between us and them is just greater than it was in the past. We will see. Our same players will have to play better, I guess.

        • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

but… did you see that the two teams in the afc west went backward with all their signings? so…

          • Sergio Quintero

Raiders are the Raiders but maybe even worse, KC taking somewhat of a Nose dive is cool.

But the chargers have to learn to play at close to their peak efficiency against teams they should beat. Loses to Texans, Redskins, Raiders almost killed their season.

          • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

Raiders signed them selves a full team of ex super bowl champs lol, kinda cool the way they are doing it, can’t hate on it but we will still kick their ass up and down the field.

          • Stefanie Smith

We should never lose to the Raiders. Bad enough if it is close, but when we lose, it isn’t pretty and very embarrassing.

          • Stefanie Smith

Yes. I saw that. It was interesting. I believe it with the Raiders as that McKenzie (sp?) is throwing everything but the kitchen sink at it to save his job. Often it does not work. Also it seems there is a growing consensus that the Raiders have no plan. Yeah, I believe that also. No one thinks a whole lot of their coach. Our coach, Mike McCoy and the others are definitely better.. so yeah I can see the Raiders are still in trouble.

As to the Chiefs, they didn’t do much, but I cannot see how they got better (for sure) as their schedule will be just as horrible as ours. Also I believe that Alex Smith is a paper tiger and no Rivers. So, maybe they are right with the Chiefs also. Compared to the Chiefs, we still have Rivers and they do not. Hopefully, everyone steps up and doesn’t let him hang.

          • Sergio Quintero

I’m still LMAO on their whole Saffold ordeal, it was so Raiders, overpay, let go of a better player in Veldheer, then be in a lurch, after they fail to do their homework on Saffold, fail his physical and be forced to get a LT in the draft.

          • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

            “fail his physical”… buyers remorse

          • Stefanie Smith

Ernie: You are a reasonable person. You have to know our defense is really not so good. Why can’t we have a good one like the old days?

          • Sergio Quintero

Stefanie were being nostalgic of the old days, not that this defense isn’t pretty much below average, I just can’t remember a prolonged period of defensive dominance since I have watched the chargers (for me its circa 1985 to his day), in particular I can’t remember the chargers having a really good secondary ever!!

          • Stefanie Smith

I don’t know which year it was, but at one time, the sportscasters used to talk about how great our defense was…when Shawn Merriman and Cromartie and all of them were still around and in their prime. I think we did actually have a decent defense, but maybe not.

          • Sergio Quintero

The Cromartie year was 2007, but they went into the toilet by 2008, Merriman got his knee trashed and Cromartie and the DC couldn’t get along, because he doesn’t like to play zone defense. My point it must be nice to go through what Steelers fans have had with Dick Lebeau and his almost 20 years of having at top 5 defense.

          • Stefanie Smith

10 stars for that comment. Omg, I would love that. Yes. A Dick Lebeau defense. Doesn’t have to be the same scheme he runs. Just the stability and dependability would be great. Solid and consistent.

          • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

the defensive coordinator seems to be prohibiting the team from having a good defense. I think we have some good players on that side of the ball, just not the right scheme for the guys we have.

          • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

Greg Robinson would be a great fit for them, as good as Veldheer was, Robinson is even better.

          • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

most definitely… we should be able to overtake the chiefs in the division this season.

          • Stefanie Smith

Yes, we have to get past the Broncos and whoever else with a really deadly pass rush. I don’t want Rivers getting beat up because no one can keep up. This year would be a good time for Fluker to work on his body slamming technique.

          • Stefanie Smith

Did KC do a lot of FA signings? I don’t recall who they signed.

  • Edward Sherman
