Loucheiz Purifoy Doing Some Drills with Chargers Scout

The Chargers were working out Loucheiz Purifoy today during his Pro Day. The team is in need of help in the secondary and Purifoy is a player that can help the team there. Here is some video of the Chargers scout working out Purifoy:

Purifoy is considered a talent that can be picked up in the 3rd round. He has experience on special teams covering kicks and is very good there. He is very athletic and can help the Chargers in the secondary. He goes for the strip when he gets in on the tackle and has good hands. He could be a nice playmaker for the Chargers to select in the middle of the draft.

The Chargers will need as much help in the secondary as they can bring in. At this point in free agency, the Chargers will need to draft a couple of players in the secondary to help the team compete. The Chargers re-signed Richard Marshall to compete for the starting job and Purifoy could be another player that could compete for the starting gig. If the Chargers select a corner in the first round of the draft, that player would come into camp penciled in as the starter.

Purifoy is a nice player to consider in the middle of the draft:

We’re are going to scout a lot of corners no surprise here just Telesco doing work with the the scouts like I said I want verrett in the 1st Kyle van in the 2nd

    • Sergio Quintero

      I’m there exactly with you.

      • Julien Bélair

        count me in

    • Tazzster

I don’t think the value is there to justify spending a first round pick on Verret. Verret is a small upgrade over what you can get in the 2nd or 3rd round. Gilbert is the only CB I would use a 1st round pick on… and chances are he will be out of our reach…. but maybe not.

That’s why I think we will take a pass rusher or NT in the first round…

      • esco charger

        I agree

    • BlueBoltFan

I actually like Kyle Fuller better. Verrett is undersized, even though he’s faster and more athletic..and probably more physical. Fuller has better quickness and closing burst, good instincts, and excellent ball skills. Plus he comes from a college program with a history of putting out quality DBs.

      • Derek

Agreed I think fuller will have a higher ceiling but verett has a higher floor coming into the league. But fuller has a injury history which can be a dagger during big games

  • ioane

This guy went from being the best corner in college to a mid round pick. How quick things can change for a player. If we do end up with him, I hope we don’t end up using our 1st.

    • Ernie Padaon

if we use our first… i will die

      • Julien Bélair

haha me too.. somehow I never like Gators’ players anyway…. too much attitude

        • veazy

Now that Urban Meyer skipped town, tOSU is turning even shittier and UF shouldn’t have as many idiot players that get arrested.

  • Preston Niedert

Now just sign a veteran NT and the chargers will be somewhat set.

  • Roy Hobbs

I like this guy-consistently stripped the ball and played the receivers and reacted well when not looking at the ball

  • Julien Bélair

    nice drop on the vid…

  • esco charger

I actually think we can go nix 3 in the first corner is deep this draft .pick this guy in the second and pick a wr in the third if freeney is still on the team I dont think we will pick up van noy English is still there keiser and tourek with JJ and Ingram

    • Julien Bélair

Freeney and Johnson won’t be there next year. English is about to get cut… Keiser is nothing but depth. We need to stop having BIG needs when we draft. Van Noy and Ingram would create a very good duo of pass rusher for years to come

      • esco charger

Understandable but u have to ask yourself whats more important NT which we have no one who is serviceable on the roster right now and is a bigger whole then OlB we need defensive line help u build from the line out we have plenty of OLB on the roster at the moment and we need a corner in the second and forth

        • Julien Bélair

Nix is my first choice of course. Van not is the guy I would want over anybody else in the second though

    • Sergio Quintero

I actually feel more comfortable with Lissemore at NT, than watching more Wright/Marshall, at least with Wright you can call it growing pains, and playing WR1′s when he should be playing WR2, with help.

So until proven otherwise the chargers are picking a CB in the first round.

      • esco charger

So u would rather give up big chunks of yards in the running game and have our pass rush be ineffective because we have a number one rookie corner we got in the first round without a nose we dont stand a chance NT is more important because that means the quarterback will have time to throw it no matter who is covering

        • esco charger

U win games by winning in the trenches on both sides of the ball without a NT they can control the game lissemore is not proven and is at best a back up NT or should we go another year with a patch work line im not even convinced of Kendall Reyes either the line needs rebuilding if u have a dominant D line u dont need the best corners just see what the giants did and rivers is a way better quarterback then cry baby manning just a lil food for thought budd

        • Sergio Quintero

The Nose tackle is needed more for when the chargers play base set (no nickel corner in the game). This set which they play at around 35% of the time, is where the NT plays, his effect on the pass rush is rather limited to the these 35% of the plays. The NT function is to get double teams, so the 5 Tech DE get single blocks, and the ILB get clean runs to the RB.

The chargers failure in pass rush, in big part is making Reyes/Liuget play hold up 5 tech DE, that is not a strength of their game. Instead of playing of shade of the guard and penetrating (like say Warren Sapp did).

If you notice if the chargers need to get a rush, they play a 4 man line, with Liuget & Reyes inside, with the OLB playing mostly as a down DE.

So I’m more comfortable drafting a player that plays virtually 100% of the snaps and that affects the passing game, rather than a player that gets 35% of the snaps, and his function is stopping the run, that is my view, not shared by all.

Do they need a NT yes, but will that NT improve their pass rush not much, it will improve their run defense, which helps get to 3rd long, and avoid 3rd & shorts.

          • esco charger

I think we can get a corner later on in a deep draft class for corners the nose can also get penetration up the middle (I know it sounds wrong but u know what I mean lol) to not only stop the run but also break up the pocket so we stop giving these quarterbacks all the time in the world and make our corners look worse then they really are no clean pocket means more sacks on third down an long because we stopped the run a NT would be a better investment then a first round corner who is probably not that far off from the second corners maybe verrett falls down to us in the second crazier things have happened I still wouldn’t mind the trade with san fran for their twos

          • Sergio Quintero

A big part of the problem is Pagano, he missuses his talent on his roster, and he’s not captain creative in terms of creating pressure through scheme.

They need a NT no question, but they also happen to have 2 corners who gave up over a 100 rating to QB’s, basically horrible in a pass driven league.

They will be better by having Nix and 2nd round corner, or taking a Verrett/Fuller in the first and taking a Daquan Jones in the 2nd/3rd round.

          • esco charger

the reason we couldn’t get a lot of turnovers is because of the line play and well cox helped the other team by not doing his job but once cox was benched we played a lil better and once Ingram came back it was a different defense out there I want to take a page out of the giants playbook and get that D line squared away and we will be a championship team look what Seattle did to Denver only reason they did what they did to the donkeys was because of the pressure the line got on manning but either way I just want a great defense and I cant wait to go back home and watch a charger game

          • Sergio Quintero

I understand where you are coming from, to get to the Giants level, and with the chargers 3-4 scheme, then it probably help more to get a stud OLB to compliment Ingram, I would love to get Khalil Mack but that is a pipe dream, but Dee Ford is not.

If Dee Ford is there at 25, even with need at CB, he has to be a very serious consideration.

          • esco charger

U are 100% right thats why I wanted van noy in the second I wouldn’t mind dee ford but the only concern I have with him is his ability to stay healthy u can be one of the best players out there but if u cant be on the field then what good are u to the team but the best option is that niners trade we can get nix van noy and maybe verrett or u can go either way fuller van noy if still available and jones with our third second but doubt it happens

  • Marcel West-Bailey

That first play on the highlights video against FSU….that’s pass interference

  • blu3ny3llow

I know Verrett and Roby are popular in mock drafts but I think (would like) they are going to go NT in the first n pick a CB in rnd 2 or 3
Obviously I would want Nix or Hageman in the 1st some OL depth in the 2nd and a CB in the 3rd (Purifioy would be good)

    • Julien Bélair

Verrett is popular but it is only because we all think Nix won’t be there when we will pick. If he is there we will select him for sure imo

    • maxisthebest

I like Roby a lot but he might not be there when we pick… either way I think we need a young disruptive NT and a strong explosive cover corner equally… but the depth at CB is such that i would prefer a NT like Hageman in the first who wont be there in the second and maybe snatch a CB like Fuller or Gaines in the second, rather than picking Roby and some weak NT. After DOnald, Nix and Hageman (who will all likely go in the first) there are not many viable options in later rounds. We should go NT first imo. That being said, i still hope we pick up a vet late in FA

  • Eli Rodriguez

He reminds me of Charles Tilman because of the strips.

  • Sergio Quintero

Great article from Kyle Posey, who does excellent of scouting college players, and actually giving visual examples of his arguments. Today he had an article on the ever popular Jason Verrett:

    Bullet points:
    - Fits the chargers scheme to a T.
    - Elite leaping ability has masked his lack of height
    - Surprisingly willing tackler, and shows elite instincts to diagnose a play
    - Its not height that is a weakness, but his average strength and ability rip balls of receivers hands that is the biggest concern.
    - Speed and feet are elite.

  • Derek

He’s a 3rd 4th string cb rookie yr. very raw looks like a athlete put at cb with no training. Hope scout found out if he is coachable or not. He has the physical attributes but takes lots of extra steps looks like a zone guy cuz he doesn’t turn his head in man. He seems to follow wr’s rather than run with and anticipate I think if u tell him just stay between the qb and the wr in a zone till he learns routes and how to read wrs

The only Florida CB I like is Jaylen Watkins.

  • afroamongfew

Oh hellllllllllllllll no. Stay away from the Florida secondary, and ESPECIALLY stay away from Purifoy. He looks frequently lost as all hell out there.
