Rich Ohrnberger Seen As Possible Starter By Some Teams

One Chargers free agent that the team would likely want to bring back is Rich Ohrnberger. There is talk that some teams are looking at him as a possible starting offensive guard or center for their teams, per Rand Getlin. He was a good backup for Nick Hardwick on offense, but with Hardwick returning for another season, he would likely be a backup on our roster.

He was a valuable piece on the depth chart for the Chargers. He came in and played center for the Chargers in the playoffs and the team didn’t skip a beat with him in the lineup.

If he has an opportunity to sign on with another roster as a starter, then he might as well take that opportunity. We could give him that opportunity on the right side. Right? Nobody wants to overpay for their right guard anyway.

Would any of you rather have Ohrnberger starting on the right side of the line or Jeromey Clary? Pretty sure I know what the Bolt Beat fam thinks on this one, but I figured I would ask anyway.

Ohrmberger over Clary but both would be ideal and give the O-Line more depth and flexibility.

Ya Ohrmberger over Clary, I hope he stays though either way.

I don’t get why Telesco hasn’t restructured Weddle’s and Clary’s contracts. For Weddle no paycut but a restructure would give the team a lot of extra money to spend. For Clary a restructure with paycut.

Then we could have resigned Ohrmberger and Marshall already plus had money for a nice FA signing that hasn’t happened.

To me it looks like we will maybe match any offer Ohrmberger or Marshall get (if they get) and re-sign both.

And then get a NT, CB, WR, RB, and another OG in the draft.

I think Telesco wants to build with youth.

I think there is a lot that goes on that we don’t see. I am guessing that the Chargers probably extended a deal to Orhmberger, but he probably said, “I will think about it… and I might want to look at what free agency has to offer.”

Also, there is a good chance they approached Clary to restructure. maybe they are working on a deal. maybe Clary said he wasn’t interested. Maybe the Chargers are ok with the deal he has. TT and MM probably know, but that is not info they share with the fans.

I know there was not a lot of action from the Chargers on day one. But there are a lot of Free Agents still out there and I suspect we will sign some to bring depth to the areas where we need it.

Restructuring would free up money this season but all it really does is kick the can down the road. Teams Dallas and Washington have gotten into trouble like that. I say let Telesco keep finding young, valuable free agent pick ups.

The Chargers have a similar cap situation this year to the one they had last year, but we’re starting out with a better team. Next year we should have a nice cap situation provided we don’t push this year’s cap problems into next year.

Would we carry nine oline players on the roster? If not, we can’t draft oline, or solstice has to go… and Clary doesn’t play center.

Come on TT. Resign Rich with Hardwick getting ling in the tooth. He’s key on roster. Unless we draft a C/G. But a proven vet would help more

We got one!!! Per Michael Gelhken

Former Colts RB Donald Brown agrees to terms with Chargers, source confirms. @RapSheet first reported.

For me it’s not an either or. The Chargers already have a 2 year guy on the roster, that can back-up Hardwick or play RG. When they hit the draft, an OL will be taken and it will most likely be a Guard/Center. The truth is, as bad as everyone thinks Clary is, he beat out Ohrnberger for the starting spot.
Let that sink in for minute….
The writing is on the wall, whether Clary re-negotiantes his deal or not, he is out the door, and maybe the league. The only thing he can do now is delay his release one more year with re-worked contract. If not, they may throw the money saved against the cap, at Ohrnberger anyway.
