Chargers Free Agency Open Thread

Let the games begin. Free agency begins and we are going to open up this thread for all the rumors and signings that the Chargers bring in. Last season we opened up the thread for the start of free agency and the Chargers gave us signings like Rich Ohrnberger and Fozzy Whittaker.

Will the Chargers give us more to talk about this coming free agency period? Can they give us an awesome signing that gets the fans excited?

There have not been a ton of rumors with the team. There is a rumor floating around with Earl Mitchell of the Houston Texans, but that is the only name that has any legs in the rumor mill. Hakeem Nicks has been mentioned to the Chargers, but it was more of an interest of Nicks to play with a good quarterback. He thinks that Philip Rivers could revive his career.

Free agency is about to start up and I am looking forward to seeing what Tom Telesco has up his sleeve.

Let the thread and free agency begin.

    Is CB the QB?

I’m looking at the numbers that these guys are signing for and I am dumbfounded. 10 million a year seems to be the going price. Are teams that desperate. Is a cornerback on defense equal to a quarterback on offense?

    something is amiss.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

      seriously… they are getting PAID!!!!

      • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

        And rightfully so.

    • Marcel West-Bailey

A shutdown corner is a rare asset a team can have. If you can neutralize the other team’s best receiver, that’s huge for your team. If they are as good as they ask for, pay them. Today’s football is a passing league and if you have a shutdown corner, they become invaluable.

      • Diegoblue

These CBs getting all this money are not shutdown CBs.. A healthy Revis IMO is the only one.

        • Marcel West-Bailey

Who would you say is overpaid?

          • Diegoblue

Talib.. Highest paid CB most guaranteed of all time.. C’mon man.. Shields 39 mil?? Damn.. DRC 35 mil..these are just a few. Everybody in panic mode.. Trying to copy Seattle’s blue print

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Receivers are getting THAT much more physical, and taller.., and QB’s (the highest paid player) are throwing it into windows smaller than a hat box.. and DB’s are getting away with less and less, and being forced to rely on technique downfield, rather than blanketing. It takes impossible concentration, and THAT is where your money is spent. Just my opinion.

  • Marcel West-Bailey

Well I can’t say Telesco is interested but, Eric Williams of ESPN, said Wade Smith from Houston makes a lot of sense for the team and can play both guard and tackle. Maybe Williams is signaling towards Telesco striking a deal with Smith so he can drop Clary. I don’t know. Don’t read into it too much but it’s a thought.

  • http://www.standupforkids.org blackroseMD1

“Titans UFA WR/KR Marc Mariani had tryout with Chargers Monday.”

    Um, ok then.

  • Marcel West-Bailey

Only because I know it’s in the worst interest of the locker room feel, the Philadelphia Eagles want a 3rd round pick for DeSean Jackson. Telesco hasn’t seemed to do much these past few days so I think he should tease us a little.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

i just saw this rumor as well.. i would do that yesterday! i dont know how they work the cap for that… but it would be amazing

      • Marcel West-Bailey

If I could get an agreement from him, he won’t be a nuisance in the locker room I would have done that when I first heard the Eagles might have been looking to trade him last week.

      • vct

Restructure PR, weddle and Clary. I’m not sure why this is not happening considering the first two are opened to it. I guess the TT doesn’t want to extend their contracts. Giving up a third for djax is not bad at all, but probably a 2015 conditional pick as well. I would still do it.

        • Stefanie Smith

Makes me nervous that TT does not want to extend Rivers and Weddle. I wonder if TT has ever played football. Anyone know?

          • vct

TT did play football in his college days I believe…wr I believe. It was on an article when the team hired him.

    • Sergio Quintero

I would make that trade in heart beat, but Telesco I just can’t see bringing in a pretty much diva WR, that wants to renegotiate his contract every 2 years.

      • Marcel West-Bailey

Exactly. I just want Telesco to take a chance on something. Strictly on a gut feeling.

  • vct

Trade for djax please. Speed and exp there.

    • Guest

If we get him there’s no doubt he’ll be………………”electrifying” Thank you everybody. I’ll be here all week

    • Stefanie Smith

He would be great to have playing for the Chargers, but I think he is an Eagle through and through and would not be happy here. He will turn out like Meachem, not because he cannot play but sort of just feeling bad about the whole thing. His friends and everyone are the Eagles. I don’t think it will work.

Same thing on the defense side: Justin Tuck will not fit on the Raiders. Why? Because he will never be a Raider. His heart is still with the Giants. Like Mario Manningham on the 9ers. Never fit and if he was honest, he was never happy there.

  • Marcel West-Bailey

    If we sign DeSean Jackson, there’s no doubt he’ll be…….( •_•)> ⌐■-■ (⌐■_■)……..electrifying

  • Sergio Quintero

Kevin Acee one of S.D. Union Tribune charger beat writers had a Q & A session today, some really interesting answers came up, a lot of them will not leave the fan base super happy, amongst the most interesting questions:

I’ll start with one I asked him personally:

    Comment From Sergio from Tijuana
Why haven’t the chargers backloaded a free agent contract and use the 2015 cap space to sign a player in 2014, Rivers isn’t getting any younger, and the Broncos are not getting worse?
    Kevin Acee:
Tom Telesco is absolutely averse to this … I am flabbergasted as well and wrote that. Rivers and Weddle are waiting there to be extended and help the team out … Another reason, from my understanding, is that the Chargers did not agree with the talent level matching the money given out this year. There is the thought the FA class just wasn’t that good.

    Others I found interesting:
    Comment From Mark
Hello Kevin would any of the following Nose tackles be a consideration for the Chargers Peria Jerry, Alex Carrington, Pat Sims, Shaun Rogers, or Terrance Cody? Do they still intend to bring someone in via free agency for NT or have they just resigned themselves to looking at the draft? Thanks.
    Kevin Acee:
The Chargers are not going to spend money. The crazy thing is that every agent I’ve talked to with an “affordable” free agent at a position of need says the Chargers have shown little/no interest. I believe Michael Gehlken can say the same … As for nose tackle, I’m trying to brace y’all to get ready for Sean Lissemore.

    Comment From Guest
For the price and production of Jeromey clary is it time to move on and insert troutman? I can’t believe he had not restructured his deal yet what leverage does he have?
    Kevin Acee:
Clary is physical, a great guy in locker room and played well against the run and in crucial times (which Troutman was not) … Now, I’m shocked there was no restructure either — and it does not appear they even seriosuly thought about it … However, his salary is not guaranteed. I think he’s on this team, but you don’t know.

    Comment From James
Is Lissemore a bad option at NT?
    Kevin Acee:
He was fantastic — but played just 220 snaps or so. So ability to play at a high level while playing more is the question going forward.

    Comment From Easton
What round will the Chargers address the WR position? I don’t think M80 is going to play again.
    Kevin Acee:
I hope not for his sake … Wide receiver is the deepest position in the draft. They can’t count on striking gold a la Keenan Allen again, but they can get a good wideout in the third or fourth round … I’m not saying they should count on a rookie. But that appears the route they’ll travel now.

    Comment From G. Duno (Phoenix)
Mr. Acee, I know there are many….but please give us fans your top reason why the Chargers will finish with 9+ wins and one reason why they finish with 8 or fewer. I know you are not a Chargers fan so I can expect a non-homer answer. TY.
    Kevin Acee:
9+: Philip Rivers, healthy Dwight Freeney, Corey Liuget consistency, monster draft, Te’o continues to develop and makes plays.
8 or fewer: Too many holes on defense, brutal schedule, draft picks need time.

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

      Nice Sergio!!!!

    • Marcel West-Bailey

What I got from this: Telesco has no balls

      • Sergio Quintero

There are out of the box thinkers, and then there are center of the box thinkers, Telesco is a center of the box thinker, good habits over risk.

        • Marcel West-Bailey

That’s a nice way of saying it. Not the way I would like my GM to go about it (not Elway though) but that’s fair.

          • Sergio Quintero

            Bullet points:
            - Lissemore is the starting NT
            - Free agency is basically done
            - The will bring a WR to compete at around round 3-4
            - Clary may not get restructured is almost 100% lock to be on this roster.

Wow, no way would I have thought that a week ago.

          • Marcel West-Bailey
          • Sergio Quintero

            Long distance mercy hug

          • Marcel West-Bailey

I don’t understand how you can have a 6 million dollar guard on your roster that isn’t a game changer. So basically we’re looking maybe 3 years out before we are in Superbowl contention. Providing we don’t get a bust, we score in FA, and Rivers and Weddle don’t leave.

          • Sergio Quintero

They actually have a ridiculous amount of cap space in 2015, hence why I made the question to Acee. I fully expect to resign Liuget, they probably will resign: Mathews, Woodhead, Wright. Wait & see: Gilchrist & Brown.

Even if they make those signings they will have a whole lot of money, and even Telesco is going to have to spend money on free agency, or he’ll have 30 million of unused cap space.

According to Over the cap the chargers have 77 million of assigned salaries for 2015, and that includes a 5 mill to Johnson, 5.9 to Gates, 3.5 to Floyd. So scrooge Telesco might have over 50 million to play with come free agency.

          • Marcel West-Bailey

You’re right. I was thinking that. You had said we weren’t spending anymore money but we’re restructuring contracts and clearing cap space this season. Which makes me think that 2015 is the year he may start spending. But I don’t know why you would clear the few millions of dollars in cap space when the rookies are only going to cost you about 2 mil in total if you have no plans on spending it this season. You could have restructured them next year.

          • Sergio Quintero

You have clear about 3 million for the draft, about the standard cost, the remaining 800k for emergencies?? (3.8 under the cap, according to overthecap.com)

          • Marcel West-Bailey

Really? You need all that for the rookies? Well all this kinda means we could be drafting Verrett opposed to Nix.

          • Sergio Quintero

Acee is huge Dee Ford fan, I don’t know if the chargers share it, but its in one of questions I didn’t include, about the chargers pick at 25, I didn’t put questions about his opinion, I put down questions where he answered the chargers position on things.

          • Marcel West-Bailey

I’m actually a Dee Ford fan too but that’s because we’re friends and we went to school together…war damn eagle…but I can’t see us drafting any other player if they’ve committed themselves to Lissemore. What I do wonder is, what they think about Reyes.

          • Sergio Quintero

Ford was killing it in the Senior Bowl, Florida State has a high opinion of him as well. Lets remember Freeney & Johnson its probably their last year here, so for 2015 its Ingram and a bunch of scrubs.

          • Marcel West-Bailey

Maybe Van Noy in the second if he’s still available. He’s a little thin but he reminds me of Weddle in that he plays off his instincts

          • Gunnar Martin

Exactly what I was thinking of Van Noy too. I think he’ll be phenomenal in the NFL.

          • Marcel West-Bailey

Him and Melvin Ingram (when Freeney and Johnson retire) sounds…beautiful

          • Gunnar Martin

Oh my goodness. Tooootally does. Love that TT has showed some interest in him.

          • Sergio Quintero

The whole Sean Lissemore is the starting NT kind of says CB or OLB for the first round.

          • Stefanie Smith

And the NFLPA and the owners per the collective bargaining agreement, have decided that at least 90% (not sure on the exact percentage) of the salary cap has to go to the players and their salaries. Sort of their version of revenue sharing.

So TT better get over his FA hangup or get ready to give players a big pay raise. He can’t carry it all over for years. Violating the CBA is not going to happen either.

Chargers, Spanos, and TT will eventually have to spend the salary cap on the players, whether they are adverse to it or not.

          • Stefanie Smith

Turning a 1 year makeover into a 3-5 year saga. Not my idea of fun or even fair.

          • Marcel West-Bailey

Yeah I really don’t think Telesco cares. Honestly I think he’s trying to get out of the choices made my AJ.S. and build the team he and McCoy wants. Whether it takes them a year, two years or even three. I don’t see short term success in his plans.

        • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Then there’s UT in the box thinkers.

          • Sergio Quintero

I don’t think its a lie, nothing I have seen from the chargers contradicts these answers.

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

            Perhaps = )

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

FYI… I love that you are Sergio fromTijuana.. awesome… Lol.

      • Sergio Quintero

The padres beat writers already are tired of my questions.

  • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

I have a BIG secret… and I’m not telling you until next weekend. Muahaha.

    • vct

Wow, thanks for dangling it in front of us for 1.5 weeks.

    • Marcel West-Bailey

Telesco isn’t addressing our biggest needs so, it can’t be that important lol

      • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

I’m a trifle deaf in this ear.. come Again?

        • Sergio Quintero

Maybe this gets that ear to work again:

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Yes!!!! Listening to it while I work…. side-eyeing my co-workers as they walk by all Eastwood style.. wish I had a cigar!

        • Marcel West-Bailey

I’m a little salty since Sergio brought to our attention TT isn’t getting anymore pieces until the draft lol

          • Sergio Quintero

Sorry about that, Old Mexican saying: “The truth may not be a sin, but it sure can be terribly uncomfortable”.

          • Marcel West-Bailey

Oh it’s not your fault lol I just want TT to restructure or cut Clary and sign a NT so I can sleep well at night

          • Sergio Quintero

I already have pissed off another poster on wanting to cut the overpaid Clary, Arnie is big Clary fan, and he’s big on the loyalty of contracts. So don’t worry I already pissed a person a whole lot more than you.

          • Julien Bélair

We until june 1 to do it… My guess is that TT is waiting how the draft goes. He maybe doesn’t want to be force to draft a G early because he cut Clary

          • Marcel West-Bailey

I’m starting to feel the same way.

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

LOL… no worries.. I have been salty all week. What comes around goes around.

    • jcrisp

Pete is it major news regarding the chargers? How do u know this, u got a trusty source?

      • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

It could be… and yes… the source couldn’t be any more “trusty”.

        • jcrisp

By when will I know about the secret or in other words when is this secret going to surface?

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

            About a week, or so.

    • Stefanie Smith

Give us a hint, pleaseeeeeeeeeee. Secrets are torture.

      • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

        Lol… it’s about football.. and the Chargers ; )

        • Marcel West-Bailey

If someone guesses right will you tell? lol God I feel like a 2nd grader when the teacher says we’re going to have a special day the last Friday before summer break

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Probably not. Lol… it’s like trying to guess your Christmas present. Just not that fun to know the surprise before it happens.

          • Marcel West-Bailey

……yeah I never did that lol I had major patience issues. I kid you not, one year I was pretty convinced my parents got my a new phone for Christmas so when they went out I unwrapped the gifts they got me, none of them was the phone I wanted and I still haven’t let that go, and then re-wrapped everything before they got home again. I was in a pretty bad mood for most of the week lol

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

DANG!!! You pulled the ole’ “Re-Wrap” trick… scandalous! Hahahaha…

          • Marcel West-Bailey

Well the spy store was out of x-ray goggles so I had no choice lol

          • Stefanie Smith

I got one of my co-workers the glasses where you can see behind you. That way she could tell when the boss was coming around. lol.

          • Marcel West-Bailey

YOOOOOO I HAD A PAIR OF THOSE!!! Lol I used to walk around with them on in school and my teachers always took them away. Until I took them out of their desk when they weren’t looking lol.

          • Stefanie Smith

Yes! Same here. Sometimes we would even play with our stuff when my parents weren’t around. Or put the boxes up to the light to see if you could see through the wrapping.

          • Marcel West-Bailey

I wish I could have done that. My parents started doing this thing where they would get me things that I needed. Once it was a car radio. Another year it was a new battery for my laptop lol so I couldn’t really use it until the time came.

          • Stefanie Smith

Pete: I used to go searching for mine before Christmas. It did not spoil it. I loved finding out..lol and going through closets etc. My parents used to have to put the gifts over at the neighbors. They would go out and my brothers and I would hit the closets and anywhere else we could think of.

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Did your folks ever catch you peeking?

          • Stefanie Smith

They probably did and just never said anything. We had elaborate coverups going on thinking we would not get caught. They had to know we were finding stuff. Guess that happened when they started leaving the gifts at the neighbors. Lol

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

            Ah… I see your point.

  • Tazzster

The bright side of Free Agency….

The Chargers had a pretty good Offense last year. Using the yards per game numbers we were 5th best. Using points scored we were 12th. That is a clear indicator of our red zone scoring problems that plagued us during the year, but got better near the end of the season.

Good news is that we resigned most of our offensive free agents. Still waiting on Orhmberger. That means we are bringing back an offense that was pretty good.

In addition, we upgraded at backup tailback. A huge upgrade. This time if Matthews goes down in the playoffs, we will have someone to fill his spot.

There does not appear to be any huge hole on the offense that needs to be filled. But I hear you guys screaming already…. WE NEED A WR? Need? Or it would be nice. We have 5 guys who are extrememly capable of catching the ball – Allen, Gates, Green, Royal, Woodhead. 5 Playmakers! You think we are desperate to add a 6th? I get it. A speedy guy to stretch the field would be nice, but not a desperate neeed.

So lets turn to defense. The unit played good at times. And at other times looked horrible. For instance, I remember watching the Broncos game last year where we kicked their butts and I turned to my son and said, “I don’t know who these guys are that showed up to play, but I am really enjoying watching them play tonight.” Jeckle and Hyde….

So what is the defensive good news in Free Agency…..

We signed a CB. Not earth shatering, but needed. We signed a backup LB. Again, not a real sexy move but we added some depth. We resigned Stucky… good move there. We resigned Reggie Walker. And most important we locked up Donald Butler for several years. Great move!

But, But, But….. I hear you guys already. We did not sign a top CB or bring in a stud nose tackle!!! We are DOOooOoOoOOooOOoooMED!!!!!!!!111!!!!1!!!!1

I like this line from what Sergio wrote below…

the Chargers did not agree with the talent level matching the money given out this year

I fully agree with that. The league was tossing around stupid money for players. It reaked of desperation. for instance it is clear that the Broncos are making a last ditch effort for the Superbowl. Even if it pays off for them they will suffer in a couple of years as they try to unload players past their prime and usefullness who have huge contracts….. DEAD MONEY.

So, Telesco is playing it smart. He is building a solid organization, that will last. Why throw good money at mediocre players and cripple your club? Not a smart move.

In conclusion, Free Agency was not all that glamorous, but it was good.

    • gpack17

so the moment royal goes down, which is likely to happen..and if allens knee problems come back..and if gates were to miss some more games due to his foot or toe, then will it be a need? obviously… and what options will be available then..its best to get depth now while we can and good solid depth than to wait until the problem happens and just throw a guy in the fire right away…

      • Marcel West-Bailey

        Inman probably get playing time

      • Tazzster

so spend 5-8 million a year on a guy for depth?

That does not make sense. Reality is that you have a lot of guys on a football team who are good players who are making around 1 million dollars. You cant have everyone on the team making 5 million. It will not work that way. There is a balancing/business aspect of this that some of us are seeming to miss. You just cant spend top money on every position on the field.

And you can’t spend money you don’t have available.
Plus Free Agency is the worst return on your money. Look at some of the contracts signed druing FA. Look at the duration, and guaranteed money. Some of those guys are at the end of their carrers, some of them are just above average, but because some guy in the front office thinks…. Man we NEED this guy, they drop a boat load of money on them and will suffer from buyers remorse 2 years down the road.

        • Stefanie Smith

And the NFLPA and the owners per the collective bargaining agreement, have decided that at least 90% (not sure on the exact percentage) of the salary cap has to go to the players and their salaries. Sort of their version of revenue sharing. Better get over the aversion to paying players more than $1 mill as the salary cap is likely to keep going up. Both parties (NFLPA and the owners) negotiate the new salary cap each year. It has to be spent on players. Only a limited amount can be carried over and only for a short period of time. If violated, there are financial penalties imposed on the team.

And as to the business aspect of football: thank you for pointing out what you astutely can see: “balancing/business aspect” but we lowly fans are “seeming to miss.”

    • Stefanie Smith

Ghee is hardly making the team solid. But that’s fine if you disagree. He is a body. That is it. Allowing Clary to keep his overblown contract and not revise it… not making the team solid, either. I don’t know. Maybe you think that is a great move. And there are Charger fans all over San Diego, who might not frequent this site who don’t think it went that well.

And solely for the purpose of dialogue, which FA that got picked up are you saying is mediocre?

I get it,. There are a ton of Telesco fans on this site. Right or wrong-we are sticking with him.

      • Tazzster

Im not a big Marshal fan either…

But Telesco has done a great job. Last year we were doing the same thing as we are doing this year. Remember? We were wondering what Telesco was doing to address the huge O-line problem. We thought King Dunlap was a mistake. We didn’t think Harris could handle it. We were wondering who Rhinehart and Orhmberger were.

In hindsight we see that TT rebuilt the O-line in one year. It went from crap to good.

In addition, he added Danny Woodhead on the cheap.

Then he drafted the Fluker, Teo and Allen. And picked up Addae as an undrafted free agent.

That looks like a pretty good first year to me.

        • Stefanie Smith

You make a valid point there. I remember when I thought the King – as in King Dunlap was going to be an epic fail. And he wasn’t. So yeah, I guess we do need to calm down but it is hard.

We have been this route for so many years —over ten. Just plugging bodies into positions and never getting anywhere. They have to start questioning how come we haven’t been to the SB in over ten to fifteen years? Maybe the owners don’t care. But people are getting tired of being told to wait. That is another thing we went through last year. We were told to wait until this year… now it’s already starting “maybe next year”.

    • Sergio Quintero

Rock solid, I would have taken Van Noy over Jones in the 2nd, and that adjusts your 3rd round pick, but in general pretty much rock solid.

What WR’s do you like between round 3-5?

      • Marcel West-Bailey

He’s a late 2nd early 3rd round pick so he may not be there for us by round 3 but I do like Jarvis Landry out of LSU. I do like Brandon Coleman from Rutgers too. You?

        • Sergio Quintero

Landry is very high on my list, Coleman seems a little more of developmental guy so no sooner than 4th round.

For the 3rd round I like: Landry, Adams, Richardson, Moncrief
After that: Coleman & Herron I like

My favorite sleeper is Jeff Janis from Saginaw Valley, 6’3 220lbs WR that put up major numbers (over 1500 yards last 2 season), and also happened to run 4.42 in the combine.

          • Marcel West-Bailey

Oh yeah. I wouldn’t take Coleman early at all but I think in time he could be something. And I have a thing for tall receivers. It could kinda be like the good ol days with Vincent Jackson and Floyd if he wasn’t broken. I know some people are looking at Dri Archer as a running back and receiver. I think he’s on the short side but so was Steve Smith and he turned out alright. The same goes for De’Anthony Thomas. I’d love to see him in the slot. On another note and as crazy as this sounds I would take Logan Thomas from VT (the QB) in late, late rounds if he’s still available. He’s wildly inconsistent right now but I think with some tutelage from Rivers he could be our next qb.

          • Sergio Quintero

Major pass on Logan Thomas, the one thing I don’t like is inaccurate QB, its a major turn off for me.

Archer & Thomas, not picking either before the 5th, they seem 3rd down back at best, and both have a history of injuries, neither seems to be a WR either.

          • Marcel West-Bailey

Oh I agree. I wouldn’t start him anytime soon but I am a believer that practice and having a great mentor changes a lot of that. I think your feelings are the same with many others but I think he has a lot of potential if someone knows how to bring it out, either McCoy or Rivers, he could be something. What better place to take a player and develop him than through the draft since we won’t need him anytime soon. But that’s just a shot in the dark for down the road.

I know when Archer was at Kent State his coach put him at receiver and running back so maybe he could do it in the NFL but I think for you to be the best at something you have to commit to your craft and that’s obviously hard to do if you’re playing two different positions. DAT is a spark plug for sure. If I’m not mistaken he’s not even listed as a back or receiver but an offensive weapon. I do remember Jeff Janis! I watched his combine performance. Very solid. I actually forgot about him but I do like him.

and you freaking write??!!??!?! someone needs to join the team. hahaha… was just about to post my new mock for the team

      • Marcel West-Bailey

Wait no no lol I didn’t write that. I just happened to see it on BR. Hahaha I was thinking “what makes them think I can write?”. I haven’t actually done my own mock yet. Well not thoroughly.

    • Stefanie Smith

Impressive work! I see a Pulitzer prize in the near future for you! Really good work and thorough.

      • Marcel West-Bailey

Lol it’s not what it looks like. I didn’t write that hahaha. I just happened to be on BR and saw it and thought I should share.

        • Stefanie Smith

Omg, I thought you wrote the article.

          • Marcel West-Bailey

Lol I appreciate the undeserved thanks though.

        • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

hahahahhaha… well crap. i thought it was your piece. the author was Marcelo blah blah blah.. thought it was your pen name or something like that.

          • Marcel West-Bailey

Lol seriously when I read that I was like “what in God’s name are Stefanie and Ernie talking about? I didn’t write anything” haha I might actually do my mock finally. However it’ll take a second because I’ll need to find a place where I can watch them play. Lol I actually have been called Marcello before. Along with a slew of other names that sound vaguely similar to mine.

          • Stefanie Smith

Me too, Ernie. I was planning his Pulitzer Prize party.

  • Sergio Quintero

ESPN’s chargers beat writer pushing for Champ Bailey and/or Vince Wilfork as signings for the chargers. I get the felling that Gehlken & Acee are more in touch with the chargers actual plan, and Williams is more giving his opinion with his pieces:
    http://espn.go.com/blog/san-diego-chargers/post/_/id/4136/nfl-nation-buzz-san-diego-chargers-22

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

i agree with you on your assessment of the writers. Acee and Gehlken should have a better feel on what the team is doing. when they write on some rumor, things usually follow through on that. Williams still needs to prove that he has his hand in there. If we see Bailey or Wilfork rumors from another source, then we might have to start believing Williams on things.

  • Marcel West-Bailey

The KR and PR Marc Mariani has been signed by Tennessee

    • Stefanie Smith

      What a surprise.

    • I_Bleed_Powder_Blue_801

I’m glad, SD has had the worst luck w/ player injuries… It’s time for healthy ones now.

  • Tony

Went on youtube. Saw some DX highlights from 2012. I seriously think I shed a few tears when I realized Allen and DX might not get to play together. That would be some combo. Get better soon DX84!

    • Gunnar Martin

That was me a few weeks ago. It will be a tragedy if DX never gets the opportunity to play in the NFL again.

  • 619rockstar

Wonder if we can get d Jackson from eagles for a. 3rd rounder, I know he’s not happy there

  • Stefanie Smith

“When the San Diego Chargers handed Donald Brown a $10.4 million dollar contract this offseason, eyebrows were raised.” Had no idea we paid this guy that much. Then it is also on overthecap.com I got this from an article talking about whether Chargers are going to bail on Ryan Mathews after he finally showed his stuff. grrrrr.. rumors going around we will replace Mathews with this ex-Colt. Hopefully, it is just a rumor.

    • Marcel West-Bailey

Well Telesco called him their “bell cow” so let’s hope it’s just a rumor.

      • Stefanie Smith

Yes. They are picking up on the story at nfl.com. Some guy is already saying that Brown will be the starter. Why, all of a sudden, will he be a starter in SD, when he wasn’t a starter for the Colts?

        • Marcel West-Bailey

What numbnuts is saying Brown will be the starter?

          • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

yea… that is stupid. Mathews is the starter on this roster.

        • http://www.standupforkids.org blackroseMD1

Mathews is the starter. He ran for 1200+ yards last year to Brown’s 537. The only way he doesn’t start games this year is if he’s injured. Brown won’t be replacing him unless we let him walk after this year, which I doubt.

  • navw21

There are two guys that I think would be good pick ups. We could sign both to a one year deal on the cheap and could both compete to start. SS Chris Clemons from Miami and OG Eben Britton from Chicago.

    • Gunnar Martin

Don’t think Clemons will come too cheap

  • vct

    Blah blah blah……

  • Stefanie Smith

Friday is officially the start of the weekend. I think Pete should fess up as to his secret surprise. It’s killing us, Pete,

    • Marcel West-Bailey

I entertain the notion for Pete to tell us what news he has. Anyone second that notion?

      • I_Bleed_Powder_Blue_801

        3rd, 4th, and a 5th…of Jameson’s Irish Whiskey!!!!

  • vct

Well….Raiders traded for Shaub, now we really need to consider for a solid CB.

    • Marcel West-Bailey

      More now than ever

    • I_Bleed_Powder_Blue_801

Not gonna worry about a guy who imploded last year. He’s got the knack for choking…He had a better cast of team mates in Houston and going to Jokeland isn’t gonna be a walk in the park for him…

      • Marcel West-Bailey

        Lol I don’t think he’s being serious

        • I_Bleed_Powder_Blue_801

It doesn’t matter. I hate Jokeland…really sucks we have to wait til May 10 for the draft

          • Marcel West-Bailey

            …..May 8th

          • Gunnar Martin

Same thing! I declare this the most boring day of the offseason so far.

          • I_Bleed_Powder_Blue_801

            Seems like forever

          • Marcel West-Bailey

Yeah for some reason they moved the date like 2 weeks back because Radio City Music Hall was getting used for some easter program

          • I_Bleed_Powder_Blue_801

I’m anti-Goodell…. They could go to a different venue… Incumbents even in football suck

          • http://www.standupforkids.org blackroseMD1

And the easter program has just been called off…or pushed back. The draft could have gone on…lol

          • Marcel West-Bailey

Are you serious? Lol they should move the draft back to when it usually is since everyone is tired of waiting.

  • Marcel West-Bailey

Hey if any of you are interesting Michael Gehlken is answering questions on utsandiego.com

  • Marcel West-Bailey

So Wilfork has not only asked to be released but he cleaned out his locker as well. I really wonder what Kraft is going to do now and if he is released if Telesco will attempt to please his MLB.

  • Marcel West-Bailey

    Guess who’s still a Patriooooottt?

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

      hahahahha… i know who.

      • Marcel West-Bailey

It wasn’t the first time he was begging to leave so when I heard that I was like “yeah he ain’t goin no where” And I actually said it the way you just read that lol

  • Marcel West-Bailey

DeSean Jackson has just been released.

    • Sergio Quintero

I want to get excited but I know better, it doesn’t sound like something that fits in Telesco’s box.

      • Marcel West-Bailey

I feel the same way. On paper I think he’s exactly what we need but I don’t think that’s the kind of player Telesco wants on the team.

  • Marcel West-Bailey

Rich Ohrnberger did a workout with the Jets

  • Daryl Peek

Danieal Manning was released by the Texans today. He’s coming off his first injury of his career but has been very productive as a SS over the years between Chicago and Houston. Might be a good idea to give him a look if the price is right.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

i wouldnt mind this at all.

  • Marcel West-Bailey

Dairus Heyward-Bey was a free agent and Telesco didn’t sigh him….whaaaaaat?!
