Left Tackle Free Agents (with verbal commitments, or bids?)

Pre-Free Agency begins on Tuesday (3/11/14) but this weekend is open and “talks” can start with all pending free agents and any NFL Team. It is an open collusion period.  Rumors are swirling of potential acquisitions, and The Baltimore Sun is posting that several of the top-tier left tackles have already reached agreements with new teams.

  1. The Miami Dolphins are expected to sign Kansas City Chiefs left tackle Branden Albert for an average of $9.5 million per year.
  2. The Oakland Raiders are in negotiations with St. Louis Rams Tackle/Guard Rodger Saffold for about $8 million per year, but Tampa Bay is in the bidding too.
  3. The Arizona Cardinals are expected to sign Oakland Raiders left tackle Jared Veldheer for around $7 to $7.5 million per year.
  4. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are expected to sign Cincinnati Bengals offensive tackle Anthony Collins for about $6.5 to $7 million per year (if Collins does not resign with Cincinnati)

Looks San Diego will rely on left tackle King Dunlap (or a rookie draft pick) for 2014.

I’m cool with King Dunlap. He played well last year. Just hope he can stay healthy.

    • Julien Bélair

and he does stay heatly this season resign him for 3-4 years. But with the way TT handled our fa this year I’m not going to worry about that at all.

  • Sergio Quintero

A lot of things have to happen to change CB from being priority number 1 in the upcoming draft, TT sure doesn’t look to be active in free agency.

    • jamfed

      Agreed!
If Nix or Hageman are there at #25, TT may have to take one. There should be several good CB’s available in the 2nd or 3rd round too…

  • Julien Bélair

Did someone thought that we were in the market for a big name LT? I hope not

    • Gunnar Martin

It bugs me that a lot of people still don’t trust Dunlap after his awesome play that no one saw coming last season. He was sooo good. Yeah, he missed a few games because of concussions, but that kind of injury isn’t a normal one. Like if he’d missed all those games because of multiple types of muscle issues, then I would call him injury prone, but that wasn’t the case. Let’s keep a decent swing tackle for depth behind him and Fluke but let’s wait for Dunlap’s replacement until he leaves town.

it bugs me a bit too… Dunlap showed that he can get the job done, i think people are just concerned with the concussions that he has had…. I THINK.

      • Joel Ayala

And lets remember Harris was doing good as a swing Tackle on both side before he got injured. And King played Really good to be our starter for this year. If he follows it up with another stellar yr. No need to look further. Imo

      • Julien Bélair

That’s also what I think plus Mike Harris is still on the roster

        • Gunnar Martin

Exactly. Harris did look pretty promising when he got the chance this last year. Drastic improvement from his rookie season.

      • jamfed

Dunlop is a concussion away from forced retirement. I think I’d rather have Dunlap as the swing tackle…

    • jamfed

For over a year, fans have wanted Staffold, Monroe or Albert.
…Dunlop has done very well and could get a big payday next year.

  • Marcel West-Bailey

I’m pretty certain we aren’t signing any big ticket FA this year. I also don’t like how ESPN never mentions us in anything but I’ll get over that.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

      we dont exist to ESPN

      • Marcel West-Bailey

Oooh see I didn’t know that. Apparently that lighting bolt on NFL Insiders is actually a tribal warrior sign…probably for the Aztecs.

        • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

          hahahaha… exactly

        • jamfed

          LOL – Exactly!!!!

The only person who gives a damn about the Chargers on ESPN is Chris Berman, too bad he’s one of the most irritating analysts
