Free Agency 'Tampering Window' Open Thread

Free Agency doesn’t begin till the 11th of this month, but teams are able to start negotiating with different free agents today. Last season we did an open thread during the start of the free agency and it went well. We will start one for the tampering window today and then get one for free agency on the 11th.

This will be your spot to talk all the madness and rumors that are flying with all the teams. The Chargers might be talking to a few players during this window as well. If you see some rumors, just share it down at the comments section. If you have a source, that would be awesome to add on there as well. Otherwise, you would be creating your own rumor and I guess I am OK with that. WILL WE TRUST YOU THOUGH?

I am hoping to hear of some corners and nose tackles talking to the Chargers in the next couple of days. We need to get in on that action.

Terrance Cody and Corey Graham might be a couple realistic options

    • chris01

      True bro!

    • Derek

I don’t like that Cody has never shined on the ravens, ever. And we expect him to do that here. When he was on the field he was a liability I know you can’t compare him to nagata but I think he is simmilar to cam. Gram I like from what I saw in the playoffs he can hang on the outside

      • Gunnar Martin

I agree. I don’t like bringing in new guys and expecting them to do things that they have never done before, like starting 16 games a season at a grueling position.

        • Derek

But I would rather a vet at nt due to odds that a rookie won’t be able to handle 2 seasoned linemen every Down. Ideally we grab solai with a 3 yr deal competitive numbers and draft hageman mid 2nd rd

          • Julien Bélair

I am with you sign Soliai abd draft a young NT to grow behind him. I like Daquan Jones more though

      • Julien Bélair

        This

  • chris01

How much do you guys think thurmond is gonna get?wouldnt mind getting him and drafting verret
    So it would be
    1. Wright
    2.verret or thurmond
    3.verret or thurmond
    4. Marshal
Thats pretty solid but its wishful thinking…

    • Gunnar Martin

Don’t forget Steve Williams. And Gilchrist is probably going to be our nickel corner. Personally, I love Verrett but I think Thurmond is a little overrated. He shouldn’t be too expensive, but I just really don’t like his career history with injuries, suspensions, and not really standing out when he got the chance to start. He would be an upgrade to our secondary if we got him, but I doubt he would last long or be dependable.

      • chris01

True we just need a dependable 3rd or 2bd string cb
It would make the secondary decent at least

    • Julien Bélair

Not that much and I like signing him and then draft verrett

  • Gunnar Martin

The Earl Mitchell idea is really growing on me. He and Soliai are at the top of my wanted list right now.

    • Chingri

Mitchell’s underpowered, Soliai would be awesome.
Cut Clary and get Sam Shields or Cap Munnerlyn!

      • Diegoblue

I like Soliai.. and cutting Clary would music to my ears.. How much would Shields be asking I wonder?

        • GOHEAD287

I think he is looking for 6mil

    • Julien Bélair

      Me too budday

  • serg21

    Plzz captain munnerlyn telesco plz

    • Chingri

Get Soliai, get Cap Munnerlyn, cut Clary.

  • 619chargers4life

So Clary isn’t going to restructure his contract? Any word?

    • Derek

I hear him and hardwick are the leaders n teachers on the line. Clary may not have the strength and talent but he is a technician that has the smarts to play any position on the line decently at the drop of a hat. With the cap increase imminent I think they are going to leave his deal. But I expect fluker to be willing and able to take his spot by next yr

      • Julien Bélair

        Fluker will stay at RT

        • Derek

I meant as a leader on Oline. I believe that and clary’s versatility are what we are paying for.

          • Julien Bélair

I really don’t know I don”t see much in him

          • Derek

I think if we did a hard knocks season u would I’ve seen him play both guards and rt prob would have been a center if hardwick wasn’t the ironman he is. And I’ve heard rivers confirm that he schools the other linemen on the intricacies of their assignments.

          • Julien Bélair

I know he is a great guy and I always felt bad for him for not being good on the field cause I know he tries. But even if he is great with the other O-linemans he is really too expensive right now

          • Derek

I dissagree with this being harwick’s last season but hey this will tell us more about Tt and what’s important to him. He let more than a few vets go last season will he be as calous

  • Derek

Heard raiders looking at Bennett which means we deff need to draft a og

  • MachoMenos

Jon Asamoah could replace Clary. Terell Browm from the Niners is a CB I hear nothing about. Should be affordable. Arthur Jones could do a great job but is probably out of our price range. Paul Soliai is probably a good choice, too. But probably the most intriguing choice out there is Pat Sims. A player that did nothing in his first years in the league but he blew up at the end of last season for the Raiders. Remember how he just manhandled the Charger blockers in the second to the last game of the season. He personally kept the Raiders in that game until the second half. The only question about him is this- Was he playing out of this world because he was coming into his own or was he simply playing lights out because he knew it would mean a big paycheck in FA?

    • chris01

Jon asmoah and brown would be great!

    • Derek

Asmoah is prob looking for levitre $ this is a redundant move when we have one of the best o line coaches. I like solai and Mitchell. Simms sounds too risky and reminds me of cox’s history. Played in diff defense, has mixed history of good and bad seasons played well on a shitty team

  • Stefanie Smith

I havent heard a whole lot of good stuff about Munnerlyn. I always get a knot in my stomach wondering why some of these guys get cut. But, sometimes it is simply a salary cap issue where the guy is outrageously good still. Other times, he’s not good. That is why he is released. Remember that guy from the Ravens that wasted the Chargers’ time for days just to get re-signed by the Ravens? They ended up dumping him mid-season and the Dolphins had him and are now releasing him. Lots of times, there are underlying issues with these guys.

I am sure TT has connections where he can ask people around the league what is up with anyone that the Chargers may be interested in.

    • boltingindiego

the captain signed a one year deal to remain with the panthers last year so he wasn’t released and looks like he wants to stay there.

  • Marcel West-Bailey

I think we (TT) should take a chance on Browner. Yeah he’ll miss games but he won’t cost a dime.

    • Julien Bélair

I am starting to think the same

      • Marcel West-Bailey

Can you find 6’4″, athleticism, smarts, and ball skills for cheaper? I don’t think so.

        • Julien Bélair

          And physical

          • Marcel West-Bailey

            Yeah I forgot that too.

          • Julien Bélair

Something that is laking in our secondary

  • 619chargers4life

    Yay Stuckey is staying

  • Julien Bélair

Red Bryant sign with Jags.. damn it one more NT of the fa list

    • boltingindiego

he played de on the hawks no big loss for us he wasn’t a nt even though he does look like that type of player.

    • Sergio Quintero

Sorry to hear this one, Jags moved super fast, add Sam Shields as another player off the board.

      • Julien Bélair

Shield got 10 millions per year…. we wouldn’t have give this kind of money to him

        • Derek

He’s not worth it. Greenbay is making win now moves. They just found their hb and Rogers will be back. All they need is a defense. It’s a safer bet that he will improve than James jones will be the secret weapon.

  • BruisingChargers

Here is my rumor, I believe TT will sign a non-Charger free agent! Seriously, I think he will sign a NT…………

  • Nick Lee

I like the idea of Mitchell. And if we can sign a few “needs,” I say we have some fun and re-sign Sproles

    • Derek

Nah he’s production isn’t going to change for the better. He’s lost his elusiveness.

  • Sergio Quintero

Goodbye to Sam Shields, packers resign him to a 4 year 39 million deal, I thought he would get 7-8 million per year, when talking about money its always more expensive.

  • navw21

Sam Shields just resigned with Packers. 4yr 39 million.

  • Joel Ayala

One rumor I heard on1360 am was Shaun Phillips was possibly returning… What do you guys think? I don’t like it. Since he quoted saying he joined the Good side last year.

    • Derek

Yeah. I know he felt played since there was no attempt made to keep him but I feel he burned that bridge.

  • Derek

What u guys think of Ted ginn jr? As a decent # 2 and kr. Not as boom or bust as nicks but he won’t beak the bank and promises #2 numbers prob a lil less than Floyd his first yr and he’ll improve as their chemistry does

  • Derek

Chris Harris just signed a 2nd rd tender….. Say we trade down for some 2nd rd and 3rd rd picks. Give one for chris and use the other on an nt then grab a wr in the third? Use the other third for a passrusher? Tt for mayor?
