Darren Sproles Released By New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints are releasing Darren Sproles.

This post is not to say that we should sign Sproles onto the Chargers, just know that this is of interest to Chargers fans. We all love Darren Sproles still and know what he brought to the roster when he was on the team.

We all love that little lightning bug when he was with the Chargers. I know that a ton of you would love for Sproles to return to the Chargers, but that just is not going to happen. We have a running back on the roster already that is doing his job and is younger. Danny Woodhead is our new Darren Sproles. He doesn’t have that same ability to take it to the house, but he is very workmanlike and fills the role that is needed on the Chargers offense.

Sproles was an awesome member of those golden years and Woodhead is the new guy on town. Woodhead is our new little dude that makes things happen on offense.

Some of you will say that the team should just sign Sproles and keep Woodhead, but when are they going to get on the field? Place Sproles out at wide receiver. NO!

It sounds like an awesome player to pick up, but with Danny Woodhead already on the roster, there is no way that the Chargers need Sproles. We can all make reasons on why the Chargers should go after him, but in the end it just doesn’t make sense.

In reallity, Sproles will likely end up with the Patriots or with the Jets.

  • Nick Mansoor

    Man I miss Darren Sproles.

    • Stefanie Smith

Me too, Nick And he still has a lot left. They are broke over there paying Brees and that franchise tag for Graham.

Dang it Nick… why you gotta say that… lol.

      • 619chargers4life

Lol you know they like our old thunder lol

  • Joel Ayala

Would it be crazy to picture Mathews Sproles and Woodhead as our Backfield? Flash,Thunder and Lighting… Lol. Fxxk AJ

  • Stefanie Smith

That is one “old” guy that still has a lot to give. Remember that, people, when you insist TT goes searching for some “youth” in the draft. I don’t care what you say, Darren Sproles is still better than most and has more football smarts than most of the draft class, I venture to say.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

Agree with that. I don’t care how old he is. We area team that can compete now and can get some vets looking for a contender. I just don’t know if Sproles has a role on this roster

    • Joel Ayala

      AMEN!!!

  • Diegoblue

Sure would love to see him rockin the Blue and Gold but I know it’s not going to happen

  • Diegoblue

On another note Ryan Shazier ran a 4.38 at his pro day ..

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

      That was a crazy time.

  • Jeremy Viromek

Woodhead is a better player. Not more talented but way better hands and better vision. People say he is the “poor man’s sproles” but the truth is woodhead will get you the first downs when you need them everytime while sproles hits a home run very rarely. Id take woodhead everyday and twice on sundays. Sproles go join norv

    • arnie

I agree. To a point. Sproles can out run most DB’s. Woodhead cannot.

  • RZ

Man I’m already over that dude,I was upset when AJ let him go.But we’re good..all you need is one arm to tackle him now days.So I wouldn’t even consider him.

    • RZ

..also there are FA running backs I would like the Boltz to sign way before Sproles..I would love to see Toby Gerhart, Rashad Jennings,LeGarrette Blount,…even James Starks backup RM.and when you add in Woodhead…we’d be pretty set. or through the Draft

  • blu3ny3llow

Love Sproles…but Woodhead our lil man now
    …hope he don’t end up a faider

  • arnie

If the Chargers need a veteran RB, there you go. One, two year deal? Block, run and catch. It’s a steal. Or can get the younger guy the Saints released?

  • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Sproles is a part of that Charger team that I really think was elite. There are still some players from that team around these parts, you know?

  • Stefanie Smith

Brees and Graham better get their nasty butts out there and start doing some RBing too, since they are the only ones who are going to get paid over there.
