James Jones Mentions Chargers As A Team He Would Like To Play For

Green Bay Packers WR James Jones is a free agent and he would love to return to the Packers, but he did mention the San Diego Chargers as a team that he would fit well with.

The Chargers are looking to add a wide receiver this offseason. We still are waiting on the status of Malcom Floyd, but the team still would want to get someone on the roster as insurance for that situation.

Here is James Jones thoughts of where he could end up in the offseason:

“I’ve thought about places that I would like to go play, whether it’s in Indy or there’s coming back home, San Diego or somewhere. Teams have popped up in my head. I can’t say I haven’t thought about it, but in a perfect world I’d love to go back (to Green Bay).” – nfl.com

Jones is a solid receiver and would be a good threat in the red zone for the Chargers. He wouldn’t be my favorite option to add to the Chargers, but I wouldn’t hate it either.

I don’t know if the Chargers want to spend that much money on a receiver at this time in the offseason. They can get a good receiver in the draft and can focus that money on the defensive side of the ball.

I put this on another discussion thread it makes more sense for it to be here:

Don’t love his age, 29 right now will play at 30 when the season rolls around, but is the type WR the chargers need a take the top of the defense guy.

But NT & CB come first, have a doubt there will be enough money for Jones, the early reports have the chargers 7.5 million in cap room after yesterday’s cuts.

Sign a NT and corner first, and lets see how much money is left, in my view they need more money to work with, meaning restructures with Clary & Johnson, and some creative accounting with Rivers, Gates & Weddle.

The 7.5 million comes from the following article, for more details:

I’d pass on Jones and draft someone to fill the #2 role. Rookie WR is going to get paid way less which lets us concentrate on the positions Serg was speaking of. Really looking forward to seeing what NT we pickup.

        brandon coleman in round 4….

        • Gunnar Martin

          YES MAN.

  • Cgoodness13

How much would he be asking for?

    • Sergio Quintero

Minimum 5 million per year, somebody will give him 6.

      • Gunnar Martin

Yeah right. There might be a few teams who go after him, but I’ll be shocked if he gets 5 mill.

        • Sergio Quintero

Dude had 14 Td’s in 2012, the cap is rising somebody always overspends.

          • Gunnar Martin

2012 was 2012. Yes, teams tend to pay too much attention towards a player’s past experience, but they do still primarily focus on what they are capable of now. I personally think he has a long time before his juices go away, but he definitely shouldn’t be getting anywhere near 5 or 6 million dollars a year. A team would already be overpaying at 3 or 4 million. That’s his max. Especially with a deep class of WRs this year.

James Jones made $3 million last year and in 2012. Offer him $2.5 million per, and TT can have him…

i dont think jones is even a number 2. at green bay when cobb went down it was all jordy nelson or lacy. he’s just trying to pretend he’s in demand to drive up his price. he cant say he’s talking to us or indy yet but he can say he’s considered us to put the thought out there. like talking about sex on the seccond date to get her wanting to give you a taste by the third.

    • arnie

That was the best description of what’s really going on.

    • jamfed

James Jones led the league with 14 TD receptions in 2012. My guess, 2 year, $5MM contract gets him in SD (do it, pending M80).

      OR

Draft a WR in the 2nd round for 4 years for $3.5MM

      • Derek

5 mill for a 30 yr old who only shines in a blue moon. ha, he looks like meachem honnestly. this draft is so deep you can deff find a #2 in the 3rd rd

        • jamfed

Yep! I’d give him a two year $5 million contract. $2.5 guaranteed (so it’s really just a 1 year deal). James Jones is proven and he can get TD/Receptions on a pass happy DEEP Green Bay Team. RED ZONE THREAT…
…TT won’t sign him. He wants to get younger and faster.

I like the idea I just know we need money$$

He should be in the discussion, but honestly the Chargers have “cheaper” options at WR already. Tutu being my front runner right now. Also with Royal coming back they now a have veteran presence. I’m with sergio on this one, the FA money is going to lean on defense. Some of it may land on Richard marshall.
