The Philip Rivers-to-Antonio Gates combo is the greatest QB and TE tandem in NFL history. Rivers has connected to Gates for a touchdown more than any other quarterback and tight end in NFL history. That has to count for something. He has done all this without ever playing a down of college football. Gates has revolutionized the tight end position, much like the other great Bolts tight end, Winslow. His 9,193 receiving yards and 87 touchdowns are among the greatest of all-time. We should relish the moments we have left with this great player, we have been spoiled for over a decade. He is most likely in the twilight stages of his career, we may not have much time left to enjoy this spectacle.
In the midst of talking about who the Chargers should sign, draft or cut, let us all take a step back and enjoy watching one of the greatest playing for our team this 2014 season. It’s not every day one of the greatest players in a generation plays in San Diego all of his career (see Kellen Winslow, Dan Fouts, and baseballer Tony Gwynn). We have been very spoiled, enjoy it while it lasts.
