A new year and the 25th pick in the 2014 NFL draft. Which under the radar player will Telesco pick in the first round, which surprising move will he make with the second and what gem will he find hidden in third?

With the first pick in the draft, the Chargers should be focused on restocking their defense. As Telesco stated earlier in the year, he wanted to add more team speed, the combine wasn’t short of Telesco’s wish.
The cornerback position looks to be very hefty with players like Justin Gilbert, Jason Verrett and Bradley Roby making waves at the NFL combine. If any of these players are not available or if Telesco feels it these players aren’t value picks at 25, the defense tackle position looked to be very solid.

Aaron Donald and Louis Nix are expected to be mid-first round picks and handed out a stellar performance at the NFL combine. Aaron Donald ranked among the top defensive lineman prospects, 4.68 in the 40-yard dash, 35 reps at the bench press and 7.11 in the three cone drill. Donald was noted for his lack of size, standing at 6’-1” and 285 pounds he would be smaller than both 300 pounders, Corey Luiget and Kendall Reyes while manning the center of the defense. Louis Nix didn’t show flashes during the combine, this could be attributed to a torn meniscus in his knee, he’s been recovering from. Nix also shed some weight, to stand in around 331 pounds and 6’-2” good measures for what the Chargers would be interested in.

My pick for the first round, if Justin Gilbert isn’t available I expect to see the Chargers keeping a close eye on Aaron Donald or Louis Nix.

Too many 4-3 teams picking before us, Donald won’t fall that far nix might depending on steelers. I’d rather verret though.

    • Julien Bélair

Donald will be taken between 10-15. Great production and great combine

Packers have been mentioned with Nix as well.

  • Scott Lee Miller

Jason Verrett to the Bolts… He’s the kind of player we need.

    • Julien Bélair

      We need nix

      • Marcel West-Bailey

        We need everyone

true on so many levels… ha

Since Pags is going to be around the 3-4 will be around and even that we run both Donald is too small to plug in at NT. Cam sucking it up this year made everyone around him look bad and really shows we need a true NT (I’m kinda thinking FA pickup and not wanting to rely on a rookie or we might have the same problem all over again). It also made our pass rush suffer which effected our secondary big time.

I know last year when we selected Fluker 80% of the Bolt nation on every site almost had a meltdown, there was cussing, throwing of objects, the sky was falling and he ended up being the best of the best lol so shows how much the fans know sometimes lol.

If we cant get Ealy or Ford I’m down with G Su’a Filo in the 1st if those other two are gone. Again people might blow a gasket and light something on fire but imagine that dude next to Fluker? Our running game would be top notch and I’m not opposed to that at all. Everything being said about Mr. Filo is exactly the kinda guy we need. I know there are a bunch of guards in this draft and alot of depth there but if we end up picking another Clarey just cause we waited a few rounds that would blow lol.

    • Calman21

In TT I trust….until he gives me a real reason not too :D.

    • Sergio Quintero

Sua Filo only in the 2nd round, pass driven league everything related to the running game is devalued, 100% on Ford or Ealy. Once again no RB’s taken in the first round, and no MLB taken before pick 16, and no OG in the first round.

Draft early is about throwing the ball and stopping the pass.

      • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

Ok, if 2 Guards go in the first you owe me dinner. lol

        • Sergio Quintero

Sure, I really like Sua-Filo but CB, OLB and NT much more urgent

      • Julien Bélair

I don’t like ealy. I wkuld be ok with Ford but I doubt we will go in thia direction with ingram and freeney on the roster. A guard could be really good but my first choise are Nix, top Dbs, wrs and then guard….

        • Sergio Quintero

I don’t think Freeney is a consideration in their thought process the latest interviews with Gehlken & Acee they basically covered that the chargers don’t know in what shape Freeney is after a very serious groin injury. If he plays they don’t know if he can even be the reduced Freeney he was 2013. In basic terms 2013 is last season as a charger at best.

Me personally I don’t believe in drafting OG’s in the first round, it has to be extraordinary guards like last year, between Yankey, Jackson & Sua-Filo at least one and maybe 2 will be there at 57.

          • Julien Bélair

I agree but I think there will be much more value with nix a wr or a db in the first rather than a olb. The only one I would be ok with is Ford

          • Sergio Quintero

I think the best value will be at WR I think Lee or Beckham will be there, I wouldn’t be surprised that both. But its hard to pick offense, when the defense is clearly much more talent deficient than the offense.

          • Julien Bélair

Bpa over need . plus a wr is a big need

          • Sergio Quintero

Go make Pete crazy and take Marqise Lee, he’ll throw a fit.

          • Julien Bélair

Lee and Allen would become the most feared young wr duo in the NFL. If he is there TT will pull the trigger in a heart beat

          • Julien Bélair

And Lee over nix. More upside and star potentiel

          • Sergio Quintero

Not against it, big Lee fan, I thought Lee was an amazing player in 2012, I never thought that guy could be a charger, if Floyd doesn’t return I’m all for it.

          • Jonah Lee

Totally agree! I’d be down with that!!

    • C.Steele

I really don’t wanna take another flyer on a pass rusher in the first round, I’m hoping this kid TT signed from the CFL brings some Pop to the pass rush. I originally said I didn’t want another small corner on the team, but Verret put on such a good show at the combine, I wouldn’t be upset with that pick.

G Su’a Filo wouldn’t be a bad way to go. I thought all year we would be going LT with our 1st pick anyway. The draft is so deep with Offensive linemen we may end up drafting a LT & G anyway.

Coincidentally, I was one of the fans that had a complete and utter meltdown with the pick of Fluker last year, so I am sufficiently cowed and on board with whatever TT does moving forward!! LMAO! Until he gives me a reason not to be ;)

      #GoBolts!

  • serg21

Marquise lee !! This corner back Draft class is really deep

  • Sergio Quintero

Donald a scheme non-fit, basically a Liuget clone can’t play NT. Nix depends on if they signed a NT in free agency, then you draft a young one no sooner than the 4th round.

Four players we will hear about until May at pick 25: Verrett, Ford, Ealy, Pryor, and maybe a WR with excellent value Beckham or Lee.

    • Julien Bélair

If they pick Donald it means we are switxhing to a 43

      • Sergio Quintero

He’s only 250 lbs, and is really fast, I think he can play OLB.

        • Julien Bélair

          Donald?

          • Sergio Quintero

Donald, I just don’t see it in almost any circumstance, you can argue he’s better than Liuget & Reyes, but all 3 are really similar in their skill sets. Its like taking a TE this year, they already have Gates & Green.

  • Parker Richardson

I say go with the trenches in round one, either on defense or offense. I don’t care what corners you have, if you can’t sack the quarterback your defense will get picked apart by better quarterbacks. Our pass rush was severely hurt by the lack of a nose tackle that eats up space and consistently requires double teams. Even if we struck gold with a shutdown corner on our first pick (which is extremely unlikely), that can only go so far towards helping our defense because a good quarterback will find other options. A solid nose tackle on the other hand would make every player around him better.

If a great nose tackle is not on the board at 25 then i say go with an offensive lineman. Having two dependable first round picks on our offensive line would really set us up well for the future because Philip Rivers is they key to our success for as long as he remains a charger. If he is kept upright and can benefit from a solid run game then we can win any game.

Also i just miss watching hardwick, dielman, mcneil and that great oline from the LT days punish opposing defenses lol

      absolutely agree with this comment

  • Gunnar Martin

Aaron Donald isn’t a NT. But if we ran a 4-3, then I would be all over it if we got him. Slim chance he ever even reaches 25.

  • Marcel West-Bailey

Man if we could get Aaron Donald at the 25th pick I’d literally shit my pants in excitement. Not even kidding. But there’s now way that’s happening.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

hahahahahha… he would be pretty exciting… but where do you play him? Kendall Reyes’ spot?

      • Marcel West-Bailey

More than likely. But there’s no way he falling that low.

  • jamfed

Aaron Donald is a 280 lbs. DT. That’s very light in the NFL. That DE or 34OLB weight, but he really is amazing right there in the middle of the line. If he’s available (but he won’t) at 25, SD’s gotta take him. Shift Reyes to NT. He played NT quite a bit in college. Shoot, rotate the whole gang on that D-Line, including Ingram (Super Melvin can play anywhere in the front 7)
