Nick Novak had a great season on the field. Not only did he make 34 out of 37 field goals—including a couple of high-pressure ones in Cinci and in the final Kansas City game—he proved that he’s a difference maker on kickoff coverage too, making a few crucial—and potentially game-changing—tackles.
Off the field, Nick has been doing some great things too. He is very involved with Colleen’s Dream Foundation, a charity that raises money and awareness for ovarian cancer research. Through an online fundraising platform called Kicking For The Cure, Nick and other NFL kickers—including Colleen’s Dream Foundation president Billy Cundiff—have granted over $12,000 and counting to UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center.
It is a cause that is close to Novak’s heart, having experienced a personal loss to cancer. “We have all been affected by cancer in some way or another,” he said in a recent press release. “Ovarian cancer, often referred to as the “silent killer” is the fifth leading cause of cancer death among women in the United States. I fully support Kicking For The Dream and its mission to raise money to support research conducted by young investigators like UCSD’s Dr. Christian Barrett.“
In between the draft talk, I thought I’d just take a moment to bring attention to some of the great things some of our favorite players are doing this offseason.
