Which Players Stood Out At the Combine?

Feb 25, 2014; Indianapolis, IN, USA; Deion Sanders interviews Alabama Crimson Tide defensive back Ha

With the combine complete, which players stood out to you? Which players are on your radar for the coming draft?

We all know the different needs of this team. We need a corner. We need a receiver. We need a pass rusher. We need a nose tackle. We need. We need. We need….

What don’t we need?!

There was a lot of talent on display the last few days in Indianapolis though and there were a number of names that stood out.

One player that caught my eye was Louis Nix. Not because of his ridiculous athleticism, but because of his hilarious attempt at the broad jump:

I love Nix and what he could bring to the team, but waiting for him to fall to us at 25 is a huge risk. If we want a nose tackle, we would have to go and get one. We can’t play the waiting game.

Calvin Pryor’s numbers in the 40 wasn’t that impressive. Should be interesting to see if he is available down at the bottom. I doubt we go in that direction though. We never select a safety.

I still love Jason Verrett and Justin Gilbert in the secondary. Gilbert stood out at the combine and will likely be untouchable from our spot in the draft.

Which players stood out at the combine for you?

I like Verrett more and more very day. He is more but damn this guy is a baller. Quick and fast, play with passion always try to get a tip or a pick if he is there at 25 he would probably be our pick.

I was disappointed in Nix but hey a big guy like him is on the field to eat up space. He will not be great in a combine type of competition. He will rematch his tape though

  • serg21

I like Verrett to looked good at the Combine and even deon sanders was impressed if he’s at 25 get him

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

      i would love Verrett

  • tbell11

Odell Beckham Jr. impressed at the combine aldo Kyle Van Noy.

    • Julien Bélair

I agree Beckham looked as fluid as Watkins catching the ball. Bright future for this young man

  • bolt up!

I know off topic here but if aj mccarron is still there in the later rounds would you guys pick him?, because I sure would, yeah Phillip rivers is our qb I get that but we need one for the future to groom and I think aj would be great

    • Julien Bélair

I feel like Rivers can play for another 3 to 5 years. Plus we are in a win now and build young mode so a QB even in the later rounds is useless for now IMO.

      • bolt up!

I respect your decision friend, although I know you would take a marriota next year ;) lol but im also saying incase(knock on wood) rivers gets hurt you need a good back up or (knock on wood again) lol he does horrible again just in case is all im saying

        • Julien Bélair

well I hope Marriota will be out of our reach next year haha

    • Derek

Think he was a Alex smith at bama. Heard he was the worst at breaking down film and attacking defensive schemes when the qb’s tlk football with coaches

      • bolt up!

Now that you mention that, its kind of scary now lolthanx derek I didnt know that, if he doesn’t watch film that us bad

  • Nick Mansoor

At this point in the off-season, I’m done playing the guessing game on who we could possibly pick up. Every player I wanted has officially become out of our reach. As long as TT picks up someone to address our issues from last season I’m happy, oh but make sure that they are good too, I’m tired of seeing draft busts on this team

    • Julien Bélair

I am tired too but what can we do… this is offseason… we have to try to enjoy the guessing game even if it’s getting boring

      • Nick Mansoor

Imbactually looking forward to FA more over the draft, because that will either open or close the door on potential players in the draft. But until FA comes around, I’m chillin haha

        • Julien Bélair

ya I feel the same way

  • Derek

I’m starting to like hageman more than nix especially after the combine. Was expecting him to be neck and neck with Donald from Pitt. He is gonna need to work on stregth and explosiveness and with that knee this might be him at his best

    • Julien Bélair

I don’t see him as a true NT

      • Derek

He’s a tweener regurdless he is going to have to put on weight to have the strength to deal with nfl offense so with that weight y not convert him. He has doe it before he’s already more explosive and stronger than nix and bigger

        • Julien Bélair

He would be a project NT so in the first round I don’t feel it. But I see the potentiel

          • Derek

Nah we cAn get him late 2nd or early 3rd

          • Gunnar Martin

            He’s a first rounder bud.

          • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

I think the Packers take Nix and we don’t

          • Gunnar Martin

Seriously. They need a nose tackle bad after letting Pickett and Raji both walk.

  • Spawnwarrior

    Jaylen watkins

    • Spawnwarrior

      Round 2

  • Spawnwarrior

    Rd 1 kyle fuller

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

not sure why i am not on board with that pick… just think if the top 3 corners are gone, then there has to be someone else that is available on the board that we would want.

  • Spawnwarrior

    Or round 4 Philip Gaines

  • Derek

Kyle fuller’s speed and hip transition warrents a 1st rd pick wouldn’t mind going with him either

    • Julien Bélair

I said the chargers would pick him a week ago. so yeah I like him but I like Verrett way more atm

      • Derek

Yeah me too his playing through a shoulder tear says a lot. Hope we bring in both for a private workout. Fuller has the better measurements but verret has shown he can take a #1 wr and shut him down in zero coverage. Better than roby fuller and Gilbert.

        • Julien Bélair

If verrett was 6 foot he would be in the top 10 easily now I know size matters but he will be good for sure I see him as a sure pick

  • Gunnar Martin

Maybe Nix will fall to our range after his Combine. That’s what I love best about the Underwear Olympics. Great players drop for no legitimate reason, and we can pick them up later than we should be able to. Happens all the time.

  • tiiiiiiiiiiit11

Martavis Bryant clemson’s #2 wideout. He is fast and 6’5. We need someone to stretch that field and we know how River’s likes those tall receivers. What do you guys think his draft stock is now? round 3?

    • Julien Bélair

      3 maybe 4

      • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

After his combine he could improve up to the 2nd round easy with the numbers he posted.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

round 3… would be interested in him there.

  • MachoMenos

Really wanted Nix to fall to us. Doubt it will happen now. However, I love, love, love Verrett. Didn’t like his size but that 4.38 made me look at his tape and who wouldn’t want a CB who can look back and find the ball and move like he does? Still, with Fuller, Jean-Baptiste, McGill and Desir available later I wouldn’t mind picking up Odell Beckham Jr. or Xavier Si’a-Filo in the first round, either.

  • se

Go corner the first round! Get Verrett ! In the 2nd let’s try to get a DT or an outside linebacker and please try to get Tre Mason guy will be a beast

  • Nick Lee

I really think we should be one of those teams this draft that just drafts the best player available, regardless of position. We have a lot of picks, there’s lots of good players this draft.

  • tubbs45

OT Cyrus Kouandjio… I know we still need guards, but damn with him and fluker on the ends…. I was impressed with Verrett too.
