Justin Gilbert Impressive During NFL Combine

Justin Gilbert has to be a player on the Charger radar for their top selection in the 2014 NFL Draft. He impressed during the NFL Combine today and may have moved out of range for the Chargers. Gilbert stands at 6’0, 200 pounds and showed that he is the fastest corner in the combine today. Tom Telesco did say he wanted to add some speed onto the roster.

Gilbert would immediately be plugged into the lineup at corner and would be expected to make some impact plays. As a rookie, we know that there will be some ups and downs in his play, but the team would need to develop him into the player to reach his potential. He has a lot of potential.

If Gilbert is available with the 25th selection in the draft, it will be hard for the Chargers to pass on his talent. We have a huge need for help in the secondary and Gilbert would fill a huge hole there. He also would be able to help in the return game. He is one player to keep our eyes on when the draft approaches.

Come on Ernie, he will be long gone by 25, I posted this in the links for the day it just seems it should be here:

Not a bad day for the chargers and their CB need, Verrett who many people feared would be under 5’9 and bulked himself up to 189 lbs instead of the 175 thin CB he was in college, with his 4.38 he secured a first round pick, Dennard with his 4.51 pushed himself down maybe into the chargers pick at 25. Fuller with his 4.49 put himself in the conversation for a late first round pick position.

The 2nd round options look plentiful with both Florida corners, McGill, Jean Baptiste and Roby.

was hoping on this one big time… then he did that!

If Verrett is there, I would be all over that pick. I don’t care about his size. He can play corner. He would be a solid corner out there.

      • Sergio Quintero

I really like Dee Ford, but I’m getting nervous with his history of injuries and the chargers bad luck in that topic. If both Verrett & Ford are there, I’ll go with Verrett and his healthier history.

        • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

Ford still amazes me how quick he gets off of the ball. RIDICULOUS. It would be a tough choice if I were sitting there with that decision.

          • Sergio Quintero

Those are 2 guys I expect we will debate from today all the way into May, to be honest perfectly happy with either.

          • Eli Rodriguez

Yea I really wanted Dee Ford but i don’t like his injuries and I didn’t like that he bashed Clowney and couldn’t even complete in the combine. If he talked and killed the combine that is a whole different story. I’m starting to think if we take a pass rusher it should be Kyle Van Noy. I love his game. He needs a few tweaks but he could be really good player.

          • Sergio Quintero

If on his pro day he kills it all is forgotten for Ford.

I’m not against Van Noy I would prefer to trade down and get him at around pick 35-40 out of preference.

          • Eli Rodriguez

I say we take the BPA in the first and trade up for him if hes there. TT did that for manti who didnt do well at the combine. Van Noy had a good performance. So im hoping van noy is on the team next year.

          • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

agreed… for some reason, van noy seems like a better value later in the draft.. but if we want him, we can’t wait till our 2nd pick. would have to be the first or somehow we pull off a trade to go backward…. i think a lot of teams are looking to do that in this draft though

          • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

i expect the same thing when we get there. would be happy with either of them

        • Derek

Also verret played and did this combine with a torn shoulder labrum!!

      • Eli Rodriguez

Im hoping that they take a Cb in the first now. Then trade up in the second like they did for Teo and take Van Noy. Im such a huge fan of his.

    • Eli Rodriguez

Verrett looks like a solid pick up but I don’t see him as a number 1 CB for us. I think his size really hurts him. TT did that Last year though we needed a Lt but he drafted a Rt. In the end Fluker ended up playing as the best lineman in the Draft so who know what will happen. In TT I trust.

      • Sergio Quintero

He did draft Steve Williams who was 5’8, the tape on Verrett is excellent he’s 5’9 which I don’t love, but no.1 corners at pick 25 is hard thing to find, I’m perfectly happy with a no.2 corner that might develop into a 1.

    • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

Ya I agree I think he is long long gone by our pick, I kinda want G Su’a Filo or DE Ealy at this point and hope and pray somehow Fuller falls to us in the 2nd.

      • Sergio Quintero

Su’a Filo for the 2nd round I assume??

Ealy, he’s definitely in the conversation his less than 40 time probably pushes him into the chargers pick he’s probably one of the 3 players we will mostly talk about for pick 25 with Ford & Verrett.

    • Derek

I like fuller over denard because denard won’t be able to get away with his physicality in the pros verret plays on the line best

    • bolt up!

If dennard falls to us I will be satisfied lol but your right sergio I just dont like verrett that much for some reason

  • tubbs45

If he was there at 25 there is NO WAY they would pass him up… much stranger things have happened, but doubtful. If we get him I will be doing the storm trooper tweerk!!

    • Sergio Quintero

      right there with you!!

  • Nick Mansoor

Gilberts draft stock just rose considerably because of this combine. I hate to admit it, since I’m such a HUGE fan of his, but I highly doubt he will be available at pick 25. Theirs a chance, but that chance is very slim :/

    • Sergio Quintero

Don’t put any money on it, the most recent mock drafts I have read have him going pick 10 to Detroit sounds about right.

  • Nick Mansoor

A little off topic here, but do you guys think TT would drop a couple spits and take 2 2nd round picks? I mean in thus draft u could see him doing that since this year is sooooo deep. But is it a legit possibility?

    • bolt up!

Actually your on to something I can see that happening

    • Gunnar Martin

If we can find a trade partner. A team behind us will need a legit reason to move up. We aren’t the only ones that know how deep this class is.

    • boltingindiego

if we drop down from the 1st i see us getting a early 2nd and picking up a 3rd.

  • Gunnar Martin

He will be gone by 15. If no teams inside there want him (which is highly unlikely), then someone will trade up for him. We don’t have a chance to get Gilbert.

  • Bolt-up

Verret has the best highlights and lit up the combine today and hes been consistent in college he should be the #1 corner in the draft if he was 2 inches taller. Hes also not afraid to lay a hit i would take verret over any of the corners in the draft

  • I_Bleed_Powder_Blue_801

    What about Bradley Roby CB???
