Louis Nix Will Meet Chargers on Sunday Night

The San Diego Chargers are at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis and they are looking at all the different prospects that fit for the roster. One of the players that could be a good fit for the middle of the defense is Notre Dame NT Louis Nix. Nix was teammates with Manti Te’o and would be a perfect fit as a nose tackle on defense. He could clog up the middle of the defensive line and could take on multiple blockers. He is one of the best nose tackles entering the draft.

The Chargers are going to take the opportunity today to interview Nix.  The Chargers were not afraid to select his teammate Te’o last season and they could be looking at Notre Dame for another player to add onto the defensive side of the ball. Nix is expected to be selected in the first round of the draft. Some team could snatch him up before the Chargers select at pick 25, but if he is available for that selection it would be tough to go in  another direction. He is a player that the Chargers defense has been looking for. He is that big body that can take on a bunch of players and he has a nice burst off of the ball.

I’m on the fence for this. I like Louis Nix, I really don’t see him doing well with the Chargers. I really don’t know why, I’m just getting a wired vibe about it haha. I mean, I want him to be successful, but I think he will be a bust, for the Chargers at least. However, it is a step towards fixing our NT situation, but if he can develop quickly like Allen and Fluker, then I don’t see why he can’t be as good for us

  • Julien Bélair

    he is a stud

  • Sergio Quintero

Have a feeling the chargers are not taking Nix, I think the chargers will fix their NT situation before the draft through free agency, its too risky to go into draft not doing so, because there isn’t many guys after Nix that can play NT. You don’t want enter the draft I have to get Nix or I’m screwed!!

    • Gunnar Martin

I agree, although I did recently realize that there is another solid NT in Justin Ellis from Louisiana Tech. My guess is that he’ll go somewhere around the fourth round. I don’t think he’d be able to start for us right away, but he would be a good development project that could come in on passing downs. He really impressed me when I was watching his tape.

      • Derek

He’s one project too many we still have geathers and Jernigan on the roster. That would show a tremendous vote of confidence in liessmore. I’d be pissed if we don’t have a respectable nt by mid season. I’m willing to wait on a cb but nt has been too long

        • Gunnar Martin

It would be dumb to go into the draft without a guy capable of starting there. We would only bring Ellis in to grow into the position so that he can start in a couple years, not this season. Lissemore is much better suited for a 3-4 end instead of nose tackle, btw.

      • Sergio Quintero

Draft him to compete for a roster spot in the 4-5 round, but get a proven NT in here, the Thomas experiment did not work.

        • Gunnar Martin

That’s exactly what I meant. I want a starter like Soliai to take the bulk, but have Ellis there to be the future (maybe).

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Not that TT wouldn’t do that. That’s exactly what he did with the Left Tackle position last season. Good news is, Dunlap worked out, for the most part. Bleacher Report actually graded him #11 Left tackle in the league.. that’s much better than anyone dreamed of.

    • arnie

Oh you mean like,”….we have to get a LT or we’re screwed!!…” in the last draft?

      • Sergio Quintero

Even then they did sign the King before the draft, that we didn’t believe in him as a fanbase, they covered their ass before the draft.

      • Sergio Quintero

Much like with Dunlap last year don’t be the least bit surprised they bring in a useful 1-2 year cover it veteran (Pickett, Franklin), we all will groan about it and the chargers take a developmental NT in 3-6 round area.

  • Gunnar Martin

They’re interviewing Attaochu tonight as well. I like the emphasis on defense.

  • Eli Rodriguez

I’m so down with Nix only if he doesn’t have knee problems.

  • blu3ny3llow

Man I love this dude…but I see four or five different teams that draft before the Bolts picking him starting with the Bears n that’s not counting any possible trades

    • Derek

Bears prob gonna go with Donald since they’re a 4-3. Steelers might snag him though. But doubt they’ll pass up on Evans I think due to his knee and a unspectacular combine we’ll have a shot at him. And thx to teo we have insider info on him.

  • Cgoodness13

Honestly thinking about it, our first 3 picks will probably be starters if they are CB, NT, and G

  • chargerfan#21

I used to want the chargers to pick khalil Mack but after seeing Dee Ford’s ATTITUDE and confidence saying he’s better than jadeveon clowney!!!!
And calling him a blind dog in a meat factory the chargers should select him at 25 that confidence should be accepted anywhere in the league especially in sandiego

    • julian vesga is chargerfan#21

So I think every single chargers mock should have dee ford,it would be interesting what he will do in San Diego with “better abilities than Clowney”.

    • Sergio Quintero

The guy was a man among boys in the senior bowl, the burst was excellent. I tend to trust my eyes, and I said the guy can play.

      • julian vesga is chargerfan#21

Yeah senior bowl mvp… do you think he’s better than Clowney though???

        • Sergio Quintero

Not as talented, level of play is different story they are surprising close, but if Clowney wants to play there is no comparison.

But I love the attitude, and at pick 25, I like him a lot as a player, and fits a major need.

        • arnie

Clowney has all the tools, it’s his attitude and work ethic that may be in question.

  • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

Is he just interviewing or is he actually able to participate? I wouldn’t take him if he can’t show what he can do whether it be combine or pro day you have to prove yourself somewhere post surgery to go 1st round.

Watched all the combine today, I wonder where WR Kelvin Benjerman will go I liked him alot, people were loving Mike Evans but he looked kinda not so fit and his routes looked weird but Mayock was singing all the praises after his 40 time. Im not sure what the guys name was in the RB class but the dude that was 230 with the dreadlocks looked like a great powerback. Love the depth of this draft, cant wait for the Defensive tackles and linebackers tomorrow.

Oh and A.J. McCarron is way better then he gets credit for he was much more accurate then Bortles in every thing. Raiders should try to swoop up Watkins and then a tackle worth a damn then get McCarron in the 3rd they would be waaaaaay better.

I know its off topic but im really down for brandin cook hes got touchdown stuff and his combine was great! I think he would be great for chargers! Hes got hands

    • John Bauer

With, K Allen, L Green & A Gates I think pass defense is more of a priority.
