B.J. Raji and Ryan Pickett Will Be Options For Chargers

The Green Bay Packers are going to let B.J. Raji and Ryan Pickett walk in free agency this offseason. Both have been productive players in the past, but they have not been as productive as of late. Since Pickett is getting up there in age and Raji’s production has taken a little bit of a slip, they will fit in our small budget.

Both players are big bodies that can be plugged into the middle of our defense at the nose tackle position. The defensive coaching staff would have to raise the production out of them, but they could be interested in a job with the San Diego Chargers since the starting nose tackle position is up for grabs. They could get an opportunity to get a lot of playing time and they would get quite a contrast in weather.

The Chargers will need to find someone to fill that nose tackle spot on the roster. Raji and Pickett definitely will be options that Tom Telesco will have to explore. Could one of these be headed down to Southern California in the near future?

Didn’t Green Bay offer Raji $8 million a year last season? I wouldn’t mind having him on the Bolts, but I think he’s gonna end up being too expensive.

    • Ernie Padaon

i dont know if he will command that type of money this time around. he has had a couple of down seasos.

      • blackroseMD1

If we can get him cheap, I’m all for it.

      • arnie

Sounds like a more expensive Cam Thomas.

        • Ernie Padaon

raji actually had success as a nose tackle though… as a starter. Cam has never been that guy

          • CALiFORNiAkiD

Not to mention Raji has never played across players like Corey Liuget and Kendall Reyes.

It’s Solai or Raji for me.

          • arnie

This is basically Cam’s first time as a starter. It’s easy to look back and say Cam sucks compared to Raji, an Jamal, On top of that Cam i’m not convinced he had the coaching those two had. Raji is just a knee jerk reaction and a ban-aid, to long term problem.

  • Julien Bélair

Picket would be a cheap vet but he will only conpete for the starting job. He will not be a clear starter and instant upgrade over Thomas

  • Preston Niedert

Raji would be nice but he would cost to much. Maybe Paul soliai he wouldn’t command a big contract by signing him the chargers could sign other free agents. If the chargers didn’t have to many holes to fill then signing raji would be fine.

I say Tt should decide on a number offer it to solai raji and Pickett. Let them know about eachother first one to bite gets a decent 2 yr contract. If none do offer cam something deserving of a 3 rd dwn passrusher and draft a nt. let them battle for snaps

  • Nick Mansoor

If TT wants to spend the money on Raji, then I’m all in for it. But he needs to make it work with the other signings somehow.

  • zeus619

Would be a good idea for Raji to sign a one year deal with SD. We have an open spot at NT which means he’ll be a starter from day one, one year deal can help him in next years free agency if he produces this year, and SD weather compared to cold Wisconsin is a no brainer.
