Chargers Sign CFL Standout DE Cordarro Law

The San Diego Chargers have signed CFL standout DE Cordarro Law today. Law had 14 sacks in the CFL and was released by his team so that he could sign on with an NFL team. He was drawing a lot of interest from NFL teams for his ability to get after the quarterback.

The Miami Dolphins struck gold when they picked up Cameron Wake from the CFL and the Chargers are hoping to find similar success. Law is 25 years old and was an undrafted free agent in 2012 coming out of Mississippi. He had 9.5 sacks with the Golden Eagles, but was unable to catch on with a roster. He got his chance in the CFL and was able to pick up 14 sacks and got recognized by the league.

He was with the Seattle Seahawks in the preseason of 2012 and didn’t make the cut. He signed on with the CFL and was able to play the final 2 games for the Stampeders and recorded a sack and a couple of tackles. In the 2013 season, he finished 3rd in the CFL with 14 sacks.

Hopefully Law will be able to add some pass rush to our defense. We are desperate for some help in that department and it seems that Law will get a good shot to make the roster.

I’m on the fence about this signing. it’s a good sign but its a gamble and there is to many holes to fix as it is. Should the chargers look into signing Eugene Monroe away from the ravens he young and he could really stablize the oline.

    • Derek

We can’t afford Eugene, besides I’m pretty sure we’d have to over extend ourselves to pry him from Balt. When we got coach d who makes avg linemen look great why get a expensive linemen?

      • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

agree with this.. we have dunlap on the left side and he did well last season. mike harris should be back to give depth over there also

        • boltingindiego

from last year to this year harris developed well hes a great swing tackle for us.

          • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

i think so too.. i think he an get the job done when either Dunlap or Fluker needs to take a seat for some reason

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

not a big risk on the signing. can’t be too mad about it

    • Julien Bélair

Risk? Paying minimum to recieve maximum effort from him? I say good ******* sign

  • blu3ny3llow

Good signing at least the looking with an open mind…..but hey Ernie any info or anything on the other new guys that got sign to future contracts; Zach Borden FB/LB, Nick McDonald C/G, Dontrelle Inman WR and also before the season ended they signed Kerwynn Williams he’s a running back with kick return skills

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

I liked Kerwynn Williams going into the draft a couple of seasons ago. He is small, but is quick and has speed. He should be able to compete for a job returning kicks. That would likely be his best shot at the roster and he would be able to contribute in the backfield if he gets that job. Tom Telesco wants to add speed.

Inman is a tall receiver out of the CFL that the Chargers signed as well. He has 4.4 speed and will likely compete for a spot at wide receiver. He could be a 4th or 5th receiver on the team. definitely has potential to develop with his size and speed. Doesn’t really make people miss in the open field, but could contribute.

I haven’t seen too much on the other two signings.

      • blu3ny3llow

Thanks…just saw some stuff on Inman..looks pretty good

        • rickochey

can you share what you found?

          • blu3ny3llow

          • rickochey

            ahh ok, thanks..

      • rickochey

        Inman?

        • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

a receiver we signed from the CFL as well

          • rickochey

did we sign him at the same time as Law?

          • rickochey

He doesn’t seem special. He seems average playing against average CFL players. what are TT plans for him?

  • serg21

I don’t understand what’s so wrong with king dunlap yes he has some injury problems but when he played he played really good

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

agree… .don’t see much wrong with him… When he is there, he has been really good

    • Julien Bélair

He will be FA after this season and if he plays well again a say resign this beast for 4 years

  • Marcel West-Bailey

Hey used to play on the Seahawks during the preseason? Our defense has increased 10 fold and we have immediately been vaulted into Superbowl contention.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

      hahahaha.

      • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

If we want to go all Seahawks 2.0 this would be a good start:

        http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1957539-why-calvin-pryor-is-a-first-round-safety-in-todays-nfl

Comparing Calvin Pryor to Cam Chancellor has this dudes draft stock soaring and he could be there right at our pick.

        • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

if he is there… would love for him to be there, but his stock seems to be going a lot higher than where we will be selecting

          • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

Just watching how he hits the living crap out of ball carriers makes me want him, we haven’t had a guy like that in along time. That first hit in the video above is all I needed……good lord

          • Marcel West-Bailey

I agree 100%. We don’t have any attitude. I come from a basketball background but I think in any sport you play you need some attitude and we don’t have any. We don’t have a “loose cannon” at any position and I think that’s what really separates the Seahawks from most defenses.

        • boltingindiego

what sucks though is the bargain of the pick, cam 5th round pick while maybe cam 2.0 a 1st round pick.

  • Gunnar Martin

It has begun! It’s not much, but at least it’s a taste of some real action. And I love it. Not a bad first signing of the offseason. Nice job TT :)

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

it definitely is something.. .we needed something to talk about…

      • Julien Bélair

yeah plus he is cheap. It is worthy to give him a shot

  • zak p

People forget how good mike harris was before he got hurt. Wouldnt be surprised to see him overtake king for left tackle. King was great for us when he was on the field but still harris looked like he learned a lot and our o line coach is one of the best. He can really teach the guys and get the most out of em. Pretty excited. Hopefully we cut clary and draft a guard and maybe sign rich back. O line will be a lot better next year with the health and added depth. Also the dolphins got wake from the cfl so who knows. We could strick gold. Low risk move.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

he was very good when he was in there last season. the first season i wanted to peel my eyes out… but last season he did well.

  • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

I was hoping we would sign one of Canada’s pass rushers before the playoffs started like NE did, I really like this move. This guy is obviously progressing and that’s with Canadian coaching, Imagine what he could learn from Freeney alone. Plus it might light a fire under Reyes ass that he needs to perform or else he is going to be a backup to a former CLFer lol.

    • blu3ny3llow

I think he might be expected to play OLB..but ya man I’m with you

      • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

i dont know how this dude would work at OLB, but we will find out. he might be used in a freeney type role. Just chase the quarterback out of the nickel defense.

        • boltingindiego

i see him playing the de on passing situations. would like to see an all pass rush line/ olb package.

  • Cgoodness13

Yay now we can focus on NT and CB!!!!

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

if he doesnt do anything at those positions, we will all just crawl into our corner and cry

  • FitzWilly

    Well done TT
Lots of hidden talent up here :)
    Go Can Diego Chargers

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

      hahhaha…. that Canadian love!!!

      • FitzWilly

        always my friend
        all hail the Beaver :)

So does this mean OLB will not be our first round pick.

    • Julien Bélair

      not necessarily

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

i bet it is still possible. still think we grab a corner though
