Louis Nix Mocked To Chargers By Daniel Jeremiah

Daniel Jermiah of NFL.com just posted up his latest mock draft and he has the San Diego Chargers selecting Louis Nix with the 25th pick in the draft.

Nix has the tools to be a dominant three-down player in the Chargers’ defensive system.

We had just been talking about the lack of a nose tackle in our defense. Selecting Louis Nix would sure change that around. If Louis Nix is available with our 25th selection, we should snatch him up. We are in desperate need for a nose tackle that can take on some blockers and free up the other players to make plays. Nix would be able to make an impact with the defense immediately.

He would start at the nose and would be able to take on blockers and fill in the gaps. He would allow the linebackers to move freely to stop the running game and get some attention off of Corey Liuget. Many drafts have Nix gone by the time the Steelers make their pick. Could he slide down to 25?

I don’t like taking a NT in the first round, they just don’t get enough snaps on the field to justify the pick (like a 2 down ILB) but Nix could be the exception, in terms that he might be able to play all 3 downs, in terms of a skill set he’s a top 10-15 player.

There are 2 situations that must be considered about this pick, free agency happens before the draft, I hear people on the page talk in the opposite direction. If we can’t get Nix then sign…It doesn’t work that way guys, the 5-6 guys with NT potential will be long gone by the time the draft rolls around in May. The 2nd is he had meniscus trouble in the season that required surgery, he’s 350 lbs and has knee problems that makes me nervous. To read more:

If Nix falls to the chargers at 25, and the chargers haven’t addressed their NT situation, take him and don’t look back. I expect the chargers to not play it that way, sign a veteran and not go into the draft hoping Nix falls to them.

I expect the chargers to sign a vet at NT, and hopefully one of the top 2 corners fall to them or a pass rusher like Ford or Van Noy is there at 25.

Just the knee issues alone I wouldn’t touch him in the 1st round, let him fall and see how far he goes into the 2nd and try to maybe get him there. Knowing our injury history the last thing we want is a huge guy with bad knees at a very young age, just sounds not so smart to go that way.

I would feel so much better about taking him in the 2nd, massive case of wishful thinking, but we also haven’t seen many teams take NT in the first round, the last I remember was the Steelers with Casey Hampton.

Wasn’t Dontari Poe taken in the 1st? Star Loutelele?

          • Sergio Quintero

Carolina plays a 4-3 so that’s a no on Star, but you are right on Poe

I like how different mocks are saying SD is the best landing spot for Michael Sam, I’d love to have that dude on the bolts. Hide him from the media and let it blow over like Manti, I bet other guys come out at some point and then let those guys be the focal point and not Sam. Dude’s a beast, if we can get him in the 4th round we are going to have a beastly defense. Also sign Kerry Rhodes if he is willing to just come out and blaze a trail. No reason for him not to be playing at all.

I agree with you on this and I am also proud of our locker room

All I care about is can they play football? Just like I didn’t care about Manti catfish story, I wanted to know can he play football?

Out of Jeremiah’s mock draft give me Kony Ealy who’s considered top 15 player, Jeremiah has him going 27, he’s a 6’5 270 lbs pass rusher with great agility and quickness similar to Ingram but taller and probably a higher ceilling.

    The NFL.com profile:

Ealy is a versatile, athletic player with strong production (9.5 sacks, 14.5 TFL, three FF in 2013). He lines up all along the defensive line and will also stand up at times on the outside. Against the run, he uses his quickness to penetrate and is very disruptive. He flashes the ability to violently stack and shed blocks, but there are other times when he gets washed down the line of scrimmage. As a pass rusher, he creates pressure with a slap/swim move as well as a club/rip move. When he’s lined up on the outside, he shows the ability to convert speed to power. He has the athleticism to drop in coverage and might be best suited as a 3-4 outside linebacker.

I think Ealy would be a great fit.

I don’t think we draft a NT. It’s too risky for us to go into the draft without a guy capable of starting there. We can’t just hope that he slides to our pick at 25, because there’s a great chance he won’t.

  • Nick Mansoor

no not Nix, anyone but him. i was watching a bunch of his game tapes, the gets pushed around A LOT. Dee Ford or Kyle Van Noy all the way. it would be sweet if Van Noy fell to us in the second. We should ONLY draft a CB, DE or maybe a S (maybe given the situation) in the 1st.

No thanks. Our chance at a good NT in the draft was last season when Star was sitting there. Happy with Fluke, but don’t try to force it. It’s a shallow market this season, like last year’s QB crop. Don’t get all Buffalo, and take an EJ Manual.. after watching Buffalo in 2013, and watching Fitzgerald in Tennessee… they should not have blown their wad. Let’s not be that team, m’kay?

Louis NIx? Great minds think alike.
