One scout Likened Michael Sam to Larry English

Before Michael Sam shared with the world, his draft stock might have been sliding a little bit. Sam is a defensive end in the college game, but might be too small to play the defensive end position in the NFL. He may have to move to outside linebacker and play more in space and that is not something that he is used to doing. He is a player that should be chasing after quarterbacks.

One scout said that Sam compares favorably to Larry English:

Nolan Nawrocki, who writes draft profiles for NFL.com, wrote in his profile of Sam that he compares favorably to Chargers LB Larry English, “an overhyped, overdrafted, marginal producer in the pros.” 0 (NFL.com)

Yup… Larry English. Not a good player to be compared to.

Now the projections seem to have him going in day 3 of the NFL draft. That would be the 4th round or later. Drafting Larry English after the 4th round seems like something that A.J. Smith should have done from the start.

Now do you want Sam?

    Nope

  • Stefanie Smith

No. And I have wonder why he found it so compelling to share his personal sexual orientation with people he doesn’t even know. It’s weird to me.

    • I_Bleed_Powder_Blue_801

Because….he likes big butts and he cannot lie….

      • Rob Base

        Bahahaha

I love the way the world is turning these days….>COMPLETE UTTER SARCASM< Too many thin skinned people….Look, I get it, if you swing the same sex way, but don't expect everyone now to swallow it and move on…at the same time you gotta respect that many others have their own beliefs on this matter too…it literally goes both ways…..

So pissed off about this because at my job we now have a male in a same sex marriage and were briefed to mind our Ps and Qs around it….Hey, how about IT mind it's Ps and Qs around us??!!!

Too many fuckers want equality but take the chicken shit road when it comes to handling what offends them…..I call BS on that… Be a person for fuck sakes and deal with it or don't ask for that equality…..

As for this athlete, it will be another media circus if SD drafts him…

          • Stefanie Smith

That is my point. On one side, he wants to be treated like everyone else…yet he goes on national TV and tells a total stranger something that will separate him.

    • Aaron Johnson

The only reason you question it is because it breaks the mold. No one ever questions a comment about a male liking females or a female liking males. This happens more often than male/male or female/female. That being said, who cares why he shared it or what he shared. Its irrelevant to the game itself and it bothers me a bit that he made the news for that rather than actual football.

      • Stefanie Smith

Why does he feel the need to share? Yes, it is irrelevant and that is my point. He interjected it into the actual football conversation. He wanted the attention and now he has it.

        • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Maybe because he wants them to know now, before they make football decisions based on who they think he is… rather than have them put time and effort into scoring / signing him, and be ostracized when they find out who he actually is. I think it took more guts, because he didn’t wait until someone figured it out after big money contacts were in place.. he hasn’t made a dime yet. Also, from what I have read, and heard.. people already knew about it, so it was only a matter of time before the public found out. So does It really matter “when” or “how” they found out? Sooner or later, the cat would have been out of the bag, regardless. This way, he can control how it went down, without the media finding out, and making it some sort little secret, or labeling him as being deceitful. I would probably do it similarly, if I were in his shoes.

Because it would have come out sooner or later, and this way it could be helpful for other players and people to find the courage to be who they really are without fear of being ostracized. Hopefully one day a person’s sexual orientation won’t matter, but while there’s still discrimination going on, it does.

      • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Wow scary… I just responded the same exact way before reading this.. even used the word “ostracized”. (Cue Twilight Zone music)

        • http://www.standupforkids.org blackroseMD1

          Haha. Great minds…

    • I_Bleed_Powder_Blue_801

Sorry Stefanie Smith, I just had to go there…..LOL!

  • micah

    No

  • Steve

    No way

  • tubbs45

Dont really know the guy that well. But I do trust in TT and McCoy, if they like him then I will trust they know best… And by the way, Nolan Nawrocki was high on guys like Mingo, Milner, and Hayden from last years draft class and dogged Keenan Allen. I dont always trust what the ‘scouts’ say publicly, because the obviously either have ulterior motives or they SUCK.

  • serg21

Maybe he’s talking bad about him cause he hates gays??

  • http://www.standupforkids.org blackroseMD1

    Here’s my question…

Who are other scouts comparing him to? One comparison from one scout doesn’t mean much when there are hundreds more out there.

Good on him for coming out, but that has nothing to do with his on-field production, which is what should be used to evaluate him.

  • Bill Nichols

I don’t care with whom, or where, he puts his willy. But if he is being compared to that bag of shit English, then hell to the hell NO!! Like others have said around here, “in Tom Telesco I trust”…. Bolts Baby!!

  • blu3ny3llow

First off y’all know that scouts used to talk down on Aldon Smith(same school not comparing them) n he’s been a pretty good player except for the ganja Mon…then for him being gay who gives a fuck as long as he puts up sack numbers shit I’d rock his jersey if Chargers get him…thats coming from someone with no gay friends or anything…n as far as him coming out..better now than after a team picks him then “surprise”…. just saying
