Todd McShay Mock Draft: Chargers Select…

Todd McShay released his mock draft on ESPN today and here is who he has mocked to the San Diego Chargers:

25 Loucheiz Purifoy* San Diego Chargers (9-7)
COLLEGE: Florida AGE: 20 HT: 6-0 WT: 185 POS: CB

Analysis: The Chargers need to upgrade at cornerback and in the return game, and Purifoy could help in both areas. He is raw with his technique but has the potential to develop into a playmaker at corner because of his very good ball skills, and because he’s one of the most naturally talented defensive backs in this draft. If the Chargers pass on Purifoy, they could go with a smaller but equally skilled and more polished cover corner in TCU’s Jason Verrett. If they take a CB here, they could target a pass-rusher like Auburn’s Dee Ford in Round 2 and a guard like Baylor’s Cyril Richardson in Round 3.

I think Purifoy would be a reach at this spot. I would much rather take his second option of Jason Verrett in this spot. Purifoy has much better size at corner though.

I love what McShay projects to the team in the next couple of rounds though. Dee Ford and Cyril Richardson. Can we sign up for that right now?

I don’t want us to draft a CB in the first round!

    • Gunnar Martin

Yeah I think TT will only go that route if a CB is the best player available. Otherwise, I see us getting one in the second, third, or fourth round. I really think it’d be a good idea to grab Aaron Colvin in the 4th, or wherever he ends up getting projected, even though he wouldn’t be able to play for us right off the bat.

i do love the 2nd and 3rd mock picks by mcshay.

I like all 3 picks. For the first year, he could learn behind a starting CB we pick up in FA. He seems to have the talent to lock down #1 spot, once he gets a year under his belt. He’s a little taller, too.. which is nice. I know people like Verrett, but I’m not signing off on anymore 5’10 CB’s. We have enough of those already… 6′ or above PLEASE! The next two picks he has, are pretty darn solid too. Would love it if our draft unfolded this way (even if there is no mention of a safety).

Fuck no!! Purfroy has no technique he just runs fast 1st round is for immediate starters that can be plugged in dee ford is just shiny we can draft another passrusher in a later round with same result. I’m ok with Cyril but doubt he will be around that late. I go 1 Gilbert or Louis nix 2 next most pro ready nt or ej Gaines 3 Cyril or let Phillip pick his fav wr based on game tape.

    • Padraigh Keogh

Yeah. Loved when Rivers was watching a tape on Allen and wished Chargers had a player like him and then the coach told him they had him.

  • Derek

I’m a firm believer in game tape except with pass rushers mark my words purifioy won’t succeed his first yr
