Mel Kiper Mock Draft: Chargers Selects...

Mel Kiper released his latest mock draft on ESPN and here is who he has selected for the San Diego Chargers:

25 Marcus Roberson * San Diego Chargers (9-7)
COLLEGE: Florida AGE: 21 HT: 6-0 WT: 195 POS: CB

Analysis: The Chargers did a pretty good job of scheming their way around some holes at corner during the late-season run, but there’s no question they could use another good cornerback (or two), particularly because I think that defensive line and pass rush could take another step forward next season. Roberson can get a little lackadaisical, but it can also look easy for him out there because he has good instincts and a sense of where routes are going. He has long arms and can get his hands on the ball. He simply needs to be more physical against the run and grab a little less in coverage.

The Chargers need help in the secondary and everyone has the Chargers selecting a corner. Roberson could help the team immediately and would likely get the start opposite of Shareece Wright.

Roberson would be a solid player to have in the first. The team needs all the help that they can get in the secondary and he has some good size.

I like how Kiper says that we could use a good corner… or two. We should grab a few people in the secondary. Why not draft a safety in the next round?

What do you all think of Roberson as the possible draft choice?

Id hate to see us load up on CB in the draft if they arent the best football players available. I do think pick 1 should be CB and I think safety in the second is as good a plan as any. I think moving Gilchrist back to CB allowed our team to bench Liability Cox and our D improved. Assuming Ingram and Freeney are healthy with JJ playing opposite, our D will be beasts. I like the teams assessment that we need more speed on offense, this is true but we also need intelligent players like Keenan Allen that can beat you with smarts. It will be interesting to see how our draft changes based on FA.

  • Um, Not

Getting Mossy Cade will solve everything.

I don’t want us to draft a CB in the first round

If he is lackadaisical, then we don’t need him.

i wouldn’t mind sliding down to either top of the 2nd or back of the 1st if nix isn’t their.

“Roberson can get a little lackadaisical….. He simply needs to be more physical against the run, and grab a little less in coverage”.

I thought we were trying to get rid of Derek Cox? At least he isn’t 5’6″, I suppose… lol. Some of the CB’s in these mock drafts seem like they are a reach for the first round, IMO.

agreed… think they are all talented, but not first round talent. I think there is plenty of talent in the 2nd and 3rd round for the position.

Peter i’m with you on this one. Kiper is going to have to put this one back. I want to see his board, I know there is a better player available. Either at LB, or linemen.

  • blu3ny3llow

I know we need a CB but no one thrills me if they were selected in the 1st rnd

  • don mckenzie

BE cool if at pick 25 there is a top 12 rated player on your board still available
I would take that player regardless ( Except QB ) Would you pass if a Marquis
Lee was still on board I take him regardless of need.
