Philip Rivers Comeback Player of the Year; Keenan Allen Not Rookie of the Year

The official awards of the NFL were released today and Keenan Allen was not named the Rookie of the Year. Green Bay Packers RB Eddie Lacy was given the award and he won it in landslide fashion.

Philip Rivers was given an award though for Comeback Player of the Year. Rivers was coming back from the poor play that he had in the past couple of seasons. He had been a turnover monster the last couple of seasons, but he cleaned that up and played at an elite level.

I wish Keenan Allen would have gotten that Rookie of the Year award. He deserved it. It is much more difficult to come into the league and play wide receiver than it is to play running back.

Maybe next season we can get another player playing at a Rookie of the Year type level. That would likely mean that Tom Telesco did another good job.

Allen did get the fan vote for the award. At least he has the fan’s love.

I thought that Allen got 12 ROY votes…

    That’s what ESPN says anyway.

That’s about right. When all they talked about was Lacy all year, the votes tend to lean that way.

Yeah, I’m pretty disappointed. All time there have only been 9 rookie WRs go over 1000 yards. There was almost double that in rookie RBs eclipsing 1100 yards just between 1998 and 2008.

Keenan should have gotten the award.

Congrats to Rivers!!! So glad we are talking about this, and not another season riddled with turnovers. He really earned the praise he is getting.

I think Allen should have won too, but good luck getting the panel to vote against a Green Bay player. I knew they wouldn’t pick Allen. You know the league, and the “experts”, will never turn their backs on their favorite team.. even if another player deserves it more. Congrats to Lacey though. He had a great season… but, I’ll take Allen over him any day.

The same people that were saying at the beginning of the year that Philip Rivers was done as an NFL QB are the same ones that are now insisting that there was nothing wrong with him in the first place and that he is undeserving of the award. Sorry but you can’t have it both ways. Great recognition of a great comeback year for a great guy!

Anthony Thomas beat out Ladanian Tomlinson for Rookie of the Year in 2001. Same thing as always. Even though the Charger had a better year they give it to the guy back east. This will put an even bigger chip on Keenan Allen’s shoulder so no worries.

Kuechly is truly the one least deserving of recognition. Although he had a good year and ONE monster game J.J. Watt, Robert Quinn and Richard Sherman had monster YEARS. Kuechly, while a great player, wasn’t even the best LB this year. That award should go to Navarro Bowman.

The only reason Allen didn’t win was cause he plays for the chargers . Everyone hates on the chargers . If Allen played for any other over rated team . He would have won it hands down.
