Ian Rapoport Mock Draft: San Diego Chargers Select…

The NFL experts are releasing their first mock drafts of the season. Mel Kiper shared his first mock draft earlier in the day and projected the Chargers selecting Bradley Roby. Ian Rapoport released his mock draft and here is who he had the Chargers selecting.

CB LAMARCUS JOYNER FLORIDA ST. ACC

Joyner is an undersized (5-8, 190) playmaker in the mold of Tyrann Matheiu. He lines up in the slot for the Seminoles. He has the speed, quickness and fluidity to match up in man coverage as well as the instincts to make plays as an underneath zone defender. He has outstanding ball skills and is a dynamic blitzer from the slot. He produced big plays throughout his career at Florida State.

It sure seems like the Chargers are favorites to draft a corner right now. Kiper had us taking Roby and Rapoport has us selecting Joyner. We need help at corner bad and the Chargers will be looking to add someone onto the roster. Will it be in the first round though?

I know we don’t particularly need another safety, but I would love to get that kid Buchanan from WSU. NFL ready and he will be a game changer. How great would it be to have two Weddles on the field?!

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

i think we could use a safety still… i like Calvin Pryor or HaHa Clinton-Dix though at the safety at the top though

      • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Clinton-Dix would go nicely with TT’s name fetish.

        • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

          hahahaha… right…. who doesn’t like a dude named HaHa?

        • Michael

Cox and dix on the same team?, that would SUCK

          • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

Haha… His name and me laughing about it

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

            Agreed.

If they did it in the first round, I think I might have a heart attack. It’s not like we haven’t needed one FOR 8 FRIGGIN YEARS or anything. I’m sure it will get skipped again, so an undrafted free agent, & a gimpy 3rd round draf pick can get their shot, & do a mediocre job for the next three seasons. Then we can start the cycle all over again. I am AT LEAST down for Ernie’s idea of bringing in Bernard Pollard, just for those passes over the middle Denver likes… THUMP! People are totally underestimating the impact that Weddle & a SS like that would have on the rest of the secondary. But… they will just stick with mediocrity, I’m sure.

      • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

I already fell in love with two safeties!!! Happens every year! Ha

        • Captain Kush

You had a man crush on Kenny Vaccaro last year. haha

          • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

Right!!!! How sick would he have been though?!

  • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

In these mocks are all the top corners gone by our pick? if so lets go in another diretion and get some corners in the 2nd and 4th or 5th.

  • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

Just checked out this mock, if the draft was to play out like this I would go after Kony Ealy, that dude is so freakin big and strong & fast I couldn’t pass him up there.

  • Trey P

I would only take a corner if we fill the Nose tackle position first. If we dont take care of up front it wont matter whos back there. And it wont allow our Lbs to play freely. Trust TT knows this any everybody is blind if they dont see thats the num 1 issue!!

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

we have to find that nose tackle for sure! fix the trenches and everyone else will play better

      • Gunnar Martin

Maybe we could trade back a few spots, pick Nix, and collect a solid 3rd rounder while we’re at it.

        • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

If Nix is there at 25… dont even play around, just take him there

          • Gunnar Martin

Let’s see how his draft stock plays out. I agree that if he is projected to go anywhere in the first round at all, and he slips to us, then we take him. A little different if he’s thought to go somewhere in the second.

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

isn’t he hurt, & not ready to start?

          • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

He was hurt in the middle of the year. Had surgery and might drop because he probably won’t be at the combine, like star last season. He should be ready by training camp… At least I think

  • vct

How about trade up and get the best corner possible, possibly stick vincent brown in with the trade package?

  • ioane

Joyner is way too small. We also have Steve Williams who is a very similar player. I would rather address either NT, OLB, OL with 1st in that order and than look at a guy like Kyle Fukler or Roberson in the 2nd. Deep draft for Corners this year.

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Thank you!!!!!! Are these guys kidding me? We need Richard Sherman-type corners. Not Kevin Hart-type corners!

      • Gunnar Martin

Agree agree agree. Let’s do our shopping at Big & Tall, not Short & Kinda Feisty.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

      THIS!!!!

    • vct

If his the letters in his last name spell out fluker, I’m all in.

  • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

I think he is too tall. There is no need for a guy who can cover tall receivers in the NFL, because the receivers have been getting smaller & smaller. Besides, we already have a tall corner on the roster.. Steve Williams.

  • Gunnar Martin

We already have a guy like this in Stevie Williams.

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Stick to “Rapoporting” Ian. Leave the Mock drafts to Mike & Mel.

  • tbell11

Umm… Louis Nix has to be the pick if he’s available and with the injury he might slip to us. I think the Chargers will take the best defensive player available.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

agreed… how can you pass on him with such a huge need at the position. he would be perfect for our team.

      • [email protected]

Is it possible to just sign a small size sumo wrestler as our nt? He can use his E Honda moves to push back the oline.

        • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

hahahhaha… could you imagine the hand fighting up front?

          • vct

I know right? I think it should be allowed, Gates who is a basketball player with zero college football experience if I remember correctly. There’s an olympic track guy playing WR with Pats/Bucs with zero prior football experience. How can the scouts, coaches, and gm’s not doing this for yearsssssss.

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

But he would need to stay on the field all the time… even on offense… he would have to play center too. Can you imagine a sumo wrestler trying to get on & off the field? 12 men all day! Lol…

          • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

            Hahahahhahahahaha

  • Alter Ego

CB, DLine, or Oline…take the best available player – which I believe Telesco will.

  • Bill Nichols

First year in a long time, I will not be worrying about who we draft. I totally trust our new powers that be to make the correct selections and moves. Boy did they ever hit it out of the park last year. So, screw all of the talking heads, TT know best baby….

  • davacho

oh lord- did you see charles davis draft on nfl.com? how is he paid to do whatever it is that he does?! i won’t spoil the surprise- ernie will probably post…

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

oh i have to find it now

    • NativeSanDiegan

I’m 4days late, but what was he smoking?
