The San Diego Chargers practice report came out today and Nick Hardwick is still sidelined with the concussion. His status for the game will depend on if he is able to pass the concussion tests. With him still sidelined, there has to be concern on his status for the game against the Denver Broncos.

If Hardwick has to sit on the sidelines in street clothes on Sunday, Rich Ohrnberger would get the start at center. He filled in for Hardwick in Cincinnati and played solid for his time in there. If the Chargers are concerned about Hardwick’s status for Sunday, shouldn’t they sign someone on the roster as a possible backup to Ohrnberger? We don’t have anyone else on the roster to fill in at that spot and we would want someone that has some familiarity to the playbook.

D.J. Fluker watched practice yesterday, but was back on the practice field today. He got some rest for his bad ankle.

Jeromey Clary injured his shoulder yesterday during practice and sat out of practice today. There shouln’t be concern on Clary’s status since he would get on the field on Sunday if he didn’t have a shoulder.

Ryan Mathews was on the sideline again for practice, but is expected to be back in the game on Friday. Great news!

Eric Weddle took the day off to get some rest yesterday and was back on the practice field as well.

I’m pretty sure Fluke could play center if we were in a pinch.

    The dude is awesome.

    • Cgoodness13

I’m pretty sure he could play DLine also lol

Bwahaha…. Punter? Can you imagine that scene?

          • http://www.standupforkids.org blackroseMD1

Probably wouldn’t have to worry about too many Roughing The Punter penalties for other teams. They’d bounce off. Hahahaha

            RB?

i was thinking this yesterday for some reason… what if we lined up Melvin at fullback for some plays! That is a next year problem though

  • Carlos J Manzano

    Fluker to fullback.
Or Fluker to NT. Imagine that, I think he would draw triple teams and open lanes for LB’s haha

    • 619chargers4life

      Lol

      • Mark G

And after the play he joins the cheerleaders!

      done and done!

  • Carlos J Manzano

You know what, we could potentially use a DE as a fullback for red zone drives. Just like Bengals use Peko for short yardage.

Sucks for Hardwick… but, other than that… Great news, folks! On another note… listening to Weddle interviews lately makes me all warm n’ fuzzy inside. What a great defensive captain! Such leadership.

Thanks for this update, Ernie. But who “expects” Ryan Mathews to be back in practice mode tomorrow (Friday)? Cite your sources, please. I’ve not heard this anywhere else and it is huge news, if true. Cheers! http://therenodispatch.blogspot.com/2014/01/has-ron-jaworski-replaced-eli-manning.html
