Chargers 27 – Bengals 10: Chargers Move To The Next Round in Playoffs

How about that San Diego Chargers defense? John Pagano, I owe you a bit of an apology for this season. Obviously you were handcuffed with the roster that you were given earlier in the year.

Melvin Ingram played huge for the defense. He was all over the field playing physical and making plays. How huge has his return been this year? His athleticism was huge on defense. He put pressure on Andy Dalton. He was hitting players hard any time he was near them and he intercepted Dalton to top it all off.

Shareece Wright had one of his best games on defense covering A.J. Green and shutting him down. He picked off Andy Dalton as well.

The defense was more physical than the Bengals. Remember when we used to be called a soft football team? Adding players like Jarret Johnson and Melvin Ingram on the defense has been huge. Donald Butler was all over the field on defense as well.

Philip Rivers just had to manage the offense and make sure that they didn’t make any stupid plays. Philip Rivers was efficient and moved the football down the field. Ryan Mathews was big in his time on the field. He was picking up big chunks of yards and running over defenders. Hopefully he is healthy for the game against the Denver Broncos. He will needed against them. He has had some of his best games against the Broncos in his career.

They announced that he was taken out of the game as part of the running back rotation, but we all know that there was too much Ronnie Brown and Danny Woodhead during that part of the game. Ronnie Brown made the huge run to put the game out of reach in the 4th quarter though for the score.

Now we will get ready to head to Denver, Colorado to face those Denver Broncos! LET’S GO!!!!

I’d say your on point Woodhead Jr.

      • Cgoodness13

That’s funny, I have like 5 cousins who look like him lol

        • arnie

LOL Woodheads Daddy may have some esplaining to do LOL

  • Derek

Around the league all I heard was ” when the bengals win…” Here’s to sd going farther than everyone thought again! Let’s shock the world!

    • Blue&gold_blood

I hate the commentators too, they always find a way to talk down on the chargers too. Haters

      • FitzWilly

        makes the win even sweeter

        • arnie

Feels good don’t it? I woke up the the pre-game show and they were all “forced” to talk about the Chargers. Like clockwork instead of watching this elaborate post game wrap up, they had to cut away, because the wrong team won.

          • Lewis Maddox

They cut away to show SDSU win at Allen Fieldhouse. First non-conference visiting win since,,, well supposedly that hasn’t happened since Naismith was wondering what to do with the extra peach baskets.

          • arnie

Haha. I know what they cut away for, I would have liked them to record it, and show it to me later, while bolo QB gets his time in the spotlight.

  • Blue&gold_blood

Hahaha where the chiefs trolls at now !!! Hahaha
I been saying it , chargers are a top 5 team. Chiefs are somewhere down there with the raiders, jaguars, browns , ect. Somewhere in te late 20′s lol Pete get them again with a dope article lol

    • joerockt

Most of them already hung themselves.

      • FitzWilly

make sure it;s a load bearing beam :)

        am i right ladies :)

    • John Alton

I live in Kansas, and yesterday at my sons wrestling tournament all the Chefs fans talked about was how they had to Colts beat. Today after the Bolts won, I was stink eyed big time at the grocery store sporting my Chargers clothing.

      • arnie

That stink eye, was covered in blind arrogance. Cheer for your team, i wouldn’t expect anything less from Chief fans. Just please accept the truth about “who” your team is. That 11-5 record was piled up on losing teams.

        • boltingindiego

they had such a great streak of going against back up qb’s week after week. but once they faced us and denver they finally faced some good teams. all five losses were to playoff teams. only 1 win to a playoff team which was philly.

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Can you imagine if we lost? They would be all over this site right now… hahaha. But, they are all hiding under their bridges again. Lucky for me, I already knew that there was no way we were losing to Cincy before I posted it. They haven’t won a playoff game since 1990. They are even more pathetic than the Chiefs.

      • arnie

Dalton will figure it out, he just needs the right motivation.

  • FitzWilly

Addae, Jahleel has been a silent beast

he always seems to be around the big plays
hats off to Supa-Fly Melvin and the D
    we’re movin on :)

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

truth…. Addae has been big down the stretch.

  • BOLT DA F UP!

Already celebrating!!!! Im getting drunk as hell lol go bolts!!!!!

  • BOLT DA F UP!

I thought it was funny how all the announcers were on the bengals jock and then all if a sudden towards the end of the game, all I here is “chargers played well I knew they could pull out wuth a win” or andy Dalton this is ir that and they said chargers defense didnt do the work the Bengals gave it to us? Why so much hate from everyone?!

    • Stefanie Smith

Even when it is not the Chargers, they hype up teams, make up stats, etc. Listen real close. Whoever is winning the SF/GB game–soon with have the highest “X” stat in NFL history. Then you will say to yourself: “Wait a minute. These same guys said that the highest “X” stat went to some other team. They literally make stuff up.

    • John Alton

They were really loving them some Bengals all day. Let them hate, it just fuels the Bolts desire to win.

    • Lewis Maddox

I thought the commentary became a bit less biased after they saw that our rookie from Cal has gained a taste for wacking the snot out of people on that Royal reverse.
Chargers like them some cold weather football, ironically.

      • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

truth,,, Keenan Allen smacked the crap out of that dude

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

It’s Phil Simms… he hates anything not from the East coast. He thinks the world should revolve around Eli, and is bitter that we murdered them a few weeks ago.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

just the life of the San Diego Chargers…. no respect

  • FitzWilly

    I’m soooooo happy right now
I might start humping my dog’s leg :)

  • Daryl Peek

Bring on the Donkey’s! GO BOLTS

  • Derek

Look how long it takes for anyone to post a positive article on the chargers game….. No one saw this comming

  • http://www.standupforkids.org blackroseMD1

I think we actually blew the roof off the bar a couple inches when Brown broke that TD.

Fantastic second half…and the pass rush was freaking awesome. SupaMelvin…man…

  • 619chargers4life

Ingram is special . This chargers team is special. Bring on Denver for round three , I’m sure they are shaking in there boots. We own Payton !!

    • Stefanie Smith

Oh yeah, Ingram made a huge difference. The D really came around.

      • boltingindiego

Dude has been spectacular since hes comeback from the acl injury.

    • John Alton

Stop with the special team talk. It was just a wild card game.

      • 619chargers4life

        Get over it

      • 619chargers4life

Talking like that, I wonder why u get the stink eye

        • 619chargers4life

          Stay classy San Diego

      • blu3ny3llow

        OK soooo….U a Raiders fan

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Word. Not bad for a team that certain fans on here have been hating on all year. I wonder if they would rather be right, than have the Chargers win… that’s some serious sick in the head BS. Only a complete narcissist would think that way.

Keep on cheering my good man ; )

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

Ingram was all over the place!!! RIDICULOUS!

    • Pouta

      Ingram is indeed very good.
that said, I hope they get Freeney back next year (for depth, if nothing else)

  • arnie

I have a confession to make I’ve been making my rounds on the interweb, and talking smack. Like try to do, I back it up with facts. I said the Charger wouldn’t lose to Cincy, and KC would go one-n-done. I just finished rounding up all my “critics” an asked them if they still I thought i was crazy? Needless to say they I haven’t heard from them. That’s because today, like all season the Chargers have just figured out a ways to win games and started getting hot at the right time.
A the end of the day, One down, three to go.

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

The Chargers are shutting up the critics. Make no mistake. .. even if we win the Superbowl, they will fall back on that missed call by the refs. That’s just how haters roll. They will try to put an asterisk next to it, so they feel better about being dead wrong. We already are proud Arnie… the rest is just a bonus. Winning it all would be just plain amazing!!!!

      • arnie

WHEN they win it all, It won’t matter what they say. It won’t matter what anybody will say. All that will go down in the record books is….
” San Diego Chargers 2013-14 Superbowl Champs”.

        • doomedby2020

Agreed, most of the tv personalities are scared to get behind the Boltz. And Cris Collinsworth has a sycophantic dis-like for the Boltz. Fortunately he was at the Boltz/Bengals game (to watch), wish I could have been there to pour some salt in those gaping wounds.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

i love everything you do. hahaha

  • joerockt

The wine is flowin, the Sunday Gravy is bubblin, I’m one happy I-talian today.

  • Stefanie Smith

I’m not blaming him, but I hope Norv learns to think before he speaks. When he said we weren’t talented enough to get to the playoffs and that we were not just one piece away from the playoffs, that was ignorant. He didn’t say it to help anyone. He insulted our players than liked him. As the guys get ready to go play Denver, I hope he sits in his spitefulness, because he was SO WRONG.

Man, I am proud of these guys., Norv cannot take these wins away from them.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

      that JERK Norv!!!!

  • Rob Base

To all the doubters Stay Classy! Lmao!

    • John Alton

It was never about doubting. It was about not getting there hopes up and having the big let down we all have come to expect. I suspect if they lose to Denver, a lot of bolts fans will throw a tantrum. It happens every time.

      • Stefanie Smith

It’s okay, John. I thought about this. There is a psychology or mindset of losers or depressed people and a psychology of winners. Right now, we are learning how it feels to win again. We’re not used to it yet and we get nervous and fall back sometimes into “When is the shoe going to drop?” thinking. This will change and eventually we are going to accept that our team is good, always was good and just needed people to put it all together and bring it out of them. It’s not that we are fair weather fans, as you are not. We are starting to get comfortable again with being a winner. That is good. It’s progress and I will be grateful to the coaching staff for at least having a hand in bringing about this change in mindset.

      • Stefanie Smith

It’s okay, John. I have been thinking about this. There is a psychology of winners and a psychology of losers. We, as fans, are learning how it feels to be winners again. We’ve been on the losing end for so long, I sometimes think we started to believe it. It’s not about being fair weather fans. We still get nervous and fall back into our “When is the other shoe going to drop?” mentality, but it will get better. We can believe that this team is good, always was good and all it needed is competent coaching to bring it out of them. Yes, we have things to work on, just like any of the other good teams, and that is okay. Soon, we are going to get more comfortable with winning and have more of the winner’s psychology. For me, I am happy that the Chargers found a good coaching staff to bring the good stuff out of these guys.

And even if the Chargers lose to Denver, yes, we may be disappointed, but look at the progress we made. Add that to a winning 9-7 season.. and there’s plenty to be happy about. All the rest of this is more than any of us expected (except maybe Ernie) when the season first started.

        • BruisingChargers

Agree 100% Stef, We were still in the AJ or Norv mentality until this win IE: play way to conservative and expect to lose. Hats off to McCoy and co. for instilling a “We can win attitude no matter what.” Would have loved to see Norv Turners face after this game JERK………………

  • kris

I gotta admit I was a Debbie downer this year on these forums. I thought we should be playing for draft pick after the dolphin loss. I’ve been scorned so many times by these bolts I was battered and angry. However, today and the last few weeks, I have been the proudest in this team I have been in a very long time. Not just the wins, but the type of winning we’re doing. Grinding games out, pounding the ball, stepping up on defense, special teams playing great, all around team wins, really showing the improvement I’ve longed for! What a day and what a season. No matter where we end, these bolts have rejuvenated me! Can’t wait for next week, let’s go Boltz!

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Glad to have you back, Kris!

    • arnie

      Welcome to the T&M era.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

      we all have those scars.

  • ChargerOmar13

I thought I read something someone posted about the bangals humiliating us???? Like I said we end up winning games everyone says we will lose. Now lets make some pastrami out of those broncos next week GO BOLTS!!!!

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Yes… those kind of d-bags have been hating all year. Time for them to accept the truth… the Chargers are back, and running the table.

  • ChargerOmar13

Lets all answer this together “who dat”???…………………..THE SAN DIEGO CHARGERS BABY

    • blu3ny3llow

      Who They…..Chargers!!!!!

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Lol at the clowns on that article I posted yesterday. What happened to Cincinnati”dominating” us? Bwahaha! Now we’re gonna show Denver who the best team in the AFC West is.

      • I_Bleed_Powder_Blue_801

That Denver puke says we beat an injured team that didn’t show up……let’s see this coming Sunday….Go Chargers!!!!

  • I_Bleed_Powder_Blue_801

Great Win!!! It’s scary to think what this team can do when all the stars are aligned!!! Keep It Up SD!!!!

  • Bill Nichols

F uck the talking heads, and all the haters!! Bolts are for real baby, that defense is finally clicking, did you see all of those monster stops / turn overs yeah baby!! I’ve been saying this for 5 weeks now, the freaking planets are aligning for us people, keep up with the positive mojo and it will be ours for the taking. Denver is scared shitless right now, and next will be either Indy, or Pretty boy Brady, don’t care who it is, we are doing this, and I am purchasing tickets to New York tomorrow. Yeah bolts, love me some Chargers !!!!!

  • Bill Nichols

BOLTS, BOLTS, BOLTS BOLTS….. YEAH BABY!!!!!!!

    • blu3ny3llow

      Hell yeah BOLTZ UP!!!!!!

  • Stefanie Smith

Give a little love and kudos to one of my favorites, but maybe not yours—Ronnie Brown! Clapping.

  • FitzWilly

In a perfect world , i would love to see the bolts and pats in the AFC finals
rivers has never beat brady in the playoffs, and we owe those rat bastards a proper drubbing :)
    GOOOOOOOO BOLTS

    • arnie

FitzWilly, I said they would beat the beangals. They’ll beat the broncos. Take it to the bank they will beat the Pats, on their way to New York.

      • FitzWilly

        i must concur
been a while since i’ve felt this confident

        • arnie

FitzWilly, I agree. For me though it’s more than confidence. It just like all the stars planets and the moon have lined up. It feels like “redemption”. Like this huge weight of all the past dis-appointments are lining up to be exercised like ghosts from Charger teams past.

          • FitzWilly

            hard to argue that arnie
I’ll pick up a gift basket for Baby Jay and Casper then :) lol
whatever it is, keep it coming

  • tubbs45

hey madden and national media, not including Ditka and Boomer, I have a message for you:
    http://i1276.photobucket.com/albums/y462/staffpicks/Animated_GIFs/FU.gif

    • FitzWilly

      LMAO
      who doesn’t love midgets :)

      • Lewis Maddox

That’s not a midget! That’s Jordan Prentice, one kick-ass thespian.
Whether he’s a foot tall or ten, everything he does rocks!

  • luv1138

We got this. SDs got to step it up next week vs good wide outs and tight ends, and don’t forget about Welker, that man is a beast, although, we got a beast of our own, he’s name is Danny, Danny Woodhead. Go Chargers!

  • Lewis Maddox

I just got off the Cowboys thread on the Charger game. That is one twisted, hilarious group of extremely lubricated football loons.

    • Lewis Maddox

I could tell the progress of the game every time they said, “Whoopsie Andy!”

  • boltingindiego

addae had been such a great pick up by tt. hopefully we’ve found our future ss.

  • boltingindiego

    any news on rm24 injury?

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

      havent heard anything yet

  • Alphonse Lucious

That was a hell of a game by our bolts……and to be able to say it was thanks to our defense speaks volumes. As far as Ingram goes…..all i think is Suggs from last year. Mark my words as ive said a couple weeks ago, this is our year. This is the first charger team since 94 that played this game lile they belong in the big game.y one question though, why in the hell was mccoy playing so damn conservative rigjt befoee the half. Im glad we won and i see big things happening but he really needs to understand that playing that conservative from here on will not fly. With that being said…..beat up on denver so we can see the colts again in the AFC championship. NE will be one and done

  • Aaron Johnson

I just hope these last 5 games have shown the head hunters that Pagano can coach. That was a flawless 2nd half and shame on anyone calling for a coaching or player change midway through a season. Great game and lets hope the intensity continues.

And to be clear, the only thing we know at this point is our season is 60 minutes long with a 50/50 shot of winning next week. Dont try to tell me you know Bolts will win a game that hasnt happened yet. Sick of all the talk as if Broncos have lost already. Remember, that’s what everyone said about Cincy and they lost. As fans, we should take it 1 play/game at a time.

    • Cgoodness13

If he can coach a good game next week and prove to be consistent then yes I will stop with the head hunt

      • Aaron Johnson

If it takes 1 game to sway your opinion then I think you are already on his bandwagon. A team doesn’t win 5 in a row (at any point in the season) with a crappy coordinator. I believe the injuries were the biggest factor when our defense was playing horrible. Cox was a huge problem as well until he was taken off the field. Other than that, execution and communication looked to be the problem. Both were solved near the end of the season when the younger guys seemed to “get it.” My two cents anyway. I can’t wait to see what he does to Peyton and hopefully you are convinced.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

But some of those player changes were needed in the middle of the season. Derek Cox

      • Aaron Johnson

Cox would be the exception to the rule.

    • doomedby2020

“Sick of all the talk as if Broncos have lost already”

Where is that talk? I’d love to add to that.

2 minutes after the game was over those same four commentators sitting at a desk were already “excusing” Denvers’ loss to S.D. because “it was a Thursday game, they just played a game 4 days earlier”. I thought that was comical being that the Boltz had done the same.
I see Zero support for the Boltz in TV-land. Those “pro” opinionated tv personalities simply won’t jump on the Charger train. I guess the Boltz will have to go all the way to shut them up.

      • Aaron Johnson

Just venting my frustration. A lot of local outlets, ie some of the people commenting here, have Chargers pegged to win. I am a realist is all and 50/50 odds favor neither team. You are right about the national media, they never give credit where it’s due and always give the criticism. It took me a long time to accept that but I actually like it now. Way better than being favorites every year. Bolts seem to play their best ball when no one thinks they can win. Cheers to the underdog!

        • doomedby2020

          well said. Cheers!
