Chargers 27 – Broncos 20: Mathews and Defense Step Up


The San Diego Chargers did their part in knocking off the Denver Broncos. Now they will need some help this weekend from the other teams in the league.

The Chargers get a win over both Manning brothers in the last 5 days. The Chargers controlled the football the whole game with Ryan Mathews running hard and gaining chunks of yards. He carried the offense on his back and helped run that clock down.

Philip Rivers hooked up with Keenan Allen for a pair of scores. Allen’s leap over the defender was outstanding for the team’s first score. His play on the second touchdown was also very impressive. The kid has been balling out.

The defense stepped up huge by stopping Peyton Manning. They forced 3-and-outs and forced an interception. They had an awesome game on the defensive side. Credit goes to John Pagano for putting together a great gameplan against Peyton. Corey Liuget was in the backfield making plays the whole game and his hit on Peyton to force the interception sealed the game.

    Dude, to go into Denver, on a short week, cold weather, with a prime time game, with NFL Network supporting the Broncos, and not only win, but just DOMINATE the Broncos IN FRONT OF A NATIONAL CROWD IN DENVER! That’s like going into Seattle and beating the Seahawks there. Rivers played outstanding, even though his stats were only slightly above average, and Mathews played LIKE A MAN! But that DAMN DEFENZ! WHERE WAS THAT DEFENSE AT FOR THE PAST 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12 GAMES?! Wright played like a Pro Bowler, and the D-line was consistently in the backfield, and Thomas Keiser came with the play of the game and maybe the week. How da ya like dat Super DONKEYS?

    Just got threw watching the post game with Rivers, unfortunately this happened AFTER they cut away from the game so we could all watch the Big Bang. If Manning had won, we’d still be watching it.
    Give props to the Charger Fan in Denver. Shouting “”LET GO CHARGERS!” for the entire post game interview. The best way to shut your critics up, is to make sure you sit your QB right betwwen them after the game. Let’s not be coy, they were expecting Payton to be sitting there.

      I really would love to see us make noise in playoffs. Why NOT get on a tear, stay healthy, and win the whole enchilada! Need good luck too, especially to even get into playoffs. C’mon Ravens and Fins. Lose a couple. Just hate seeing us win just enough that we trade away a good pick to move up a few slots to get another Te’o. If we’re definitely out of playoffs and Chiefs sit some players then I’d like to see Sorenson for maybe a half along with some Geathers-nt, Taylor at safety if healthy, Gilchrist back at nickel to cover slot, and a few other guys so we know better what we really have. One thing I do know is Cam Thomas couldn’t play nose last year and can’t play it this year either. He can’t even get off a single blocker much less occupy 2 blockers and forget about him making a play. OK, I’m finished

          I would go if I could, but hard to make that 3,000 mi swim after just turning 60. Unfortunately I couldn’t see the game here so I missed Cam’s play.
          Do you think the defensive coaches are actually teaching our guys and coaching them up?
          Back to Raiders-seems like a game we should win and that always scares me.
          Seems like we have improbable wins and then regress against lesser foes. Hope I’m wrong. If we do keep winning then the Ravens and Fins had better lose!!!

      Pete, you are so right. Madden said it also. The season is sixteen games. Not thirteen, Not ten. Benching players, quitting and finishing the season for positioning on draft picks, damages the integrity of the game. Madden said it. Coach Pagano on the Colts said it also..and we say it.

      Man, I am proud of these guys. They played great.

      And King Dunlap—-did you see him chasing down somebody for a tackle way on down the field? Fluker was tackling in the red zone. omg,. Everyone gave it their all. They are NOT playing for draft picks.

    Hey, just pointing it out, but Vincent Brown made some good plays. Personally, I was nervous about the Chargers this year, but maybe it took some time for them to all gel together with the new coaches and all.

    Also, we had a continual flood of injuries and had to hodge podge for awhile. Man, they did great.

    Fluker, the King, Brown, Liuget, Keiser, Keenan, RM, Rivers, Gates, Danny, Royal, Marshall, etc.They are all good. Fantastic.

    finally our o-line is healthy and we have gotten our d players healthier and a rotation that works. The past 2 weeks our defense has looked great.

    Regardless of how this season ends, the Chargers have delivered some sweet sweet victories this year. Defeating Eli and knocking him out of the playoffs takes the cake, a win over the Broncos in a decisive manner, a manning sweep in span of 5 days , and the chiefs.
