Ryan Mathews Not Practicing; DJ Fluker Is Practicing

King Dunlap was not on the field for the Chargers when they opened up practice today. He has been sidelined with a neck sprain and still has not been able to get onto the football field.

With Dunlap on the sideline, D.J. Fluker has stepped in as the left tackle and has done a good job. Fluker is getting work in today for a portion of practice, so it seems that he should be available this weekend against the Cincinnati Bengals. We will still have to watch his practice report for the rest of the week.

We really can’t afford to have any more injuries at the tackle position. We are running thin at the spot and need some health.

Ryan Mathews was unable to practice because of a hamstring injury. It would be a huge loss if Mathews is unable to go. We really don’t have a capable back on the roster that can do the things that Mathews does. He picks up big yards in the running game and can pick up the tough yards for first downs.

Don’t get me wrong, here. I don’t doubt that the King is injured. However, he is injured too much. He can’t do us any good if he is injured so much and cannot stay healthy.

    • arnie

No i don’t get you wrong, how do you rehab a concussion? Because that is the only injury he has had. Concussion healing times varies from person to person. The concussion “test” does not mean he’s healed, it means Dunlap is not experiencing concussion like symptoms anymore. A blow to the head can bring them back, depending on the severity of the concussion and the player.

I don’t disagree with your point Arnie, but didn’t they diagnose it as a neck strain/sprain or something?

        • Stefanie Smith

That is what I thought he had now. Not a concussion.

        • arnie

You know what, i believe you are right. Knowing this, it still doesn’t change my opinion about King, that all his “injuries” are above the shoulders. However, getting hit the head, doesn’t do your kneck any favors, or designate you as ” injured too much”.

C’Mon Ryan!!!! I’m pulling for you, big guy! Hope that hammy feels better soon. Also, way to shake it off Fluker!!!

I think the kid has earned a break, it’s not his fault the front office thought Fozzy was expendable.
