Chargers Should Get More Reps For Seyi Ajirotutu

Nov 24, 2013; Kansas City, MO, USA; San Diego Chargers wide receiver Seyi Ajirotutu (16) makes a catch for a touchdown as Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Sean Smith (27) is late on the coverage during the fourth quarter of the game at Arrowhead Stadium. Seyi Ajirotutu only made one catch, but it was a huge catch for the Chargers on Sunday and it was one more catch than Vincent Brown on Sunday. It might be time to get more reps for Ajirotutu on offense. We had been asking for Ladarius Green to get more looks on offense and it looks like the team has started getting him more involved. Now we are on Tutu watch.

Vincent Brown has been struggling on offense to get open against coverage. Teams have looked to double Antonio Gates or shade their secondary toward Keenan Allen more and more, but Brown has not been able to produce. We need someone who can break free and stretch the defense. We need another wide receiver to produce. Ajirotutu could be that guy. We should at least give him the opportunity to see if he is.

It is crazy to see that number 16 on the field, but this number 16 might be able to make some plays down the stretch for us.

Tutu for the TD!!! Still buzzin from that win! Now bring on the turkey!!!!!!!!

  • Tazzster

Agreed. Move him ahead of Brown on the depth chart.

  • diomar espinal

its funny people i read are still trying to make excuses for VB like ooo the scheme doesnt fit him.Like really? It doesnt matter what scheme you stick the guy in at this point because as long as hes under arrest at the line of scrimmage and cant create separation to save his life hes not going to succeed no matter what you do with him. The guy has been single covered basically the past 4 games and hasnt done shit to speak of. What makes people think a change of schemes will make him any better?

The Chargers are ranked 4th in the entire league in passing offense. Obviously whatever they are doing is working out? Also obvious is the fact that the offense is not the problem on this team, its the defense and its not even close. The team is ranked 29th in total defense and people are complaining about WR’s. Does that make any sense?

      • diomar espinal

it does make sense because the last 2 teams that beat us shaded and double teamed Keenan and gates and guess what happened, we lost. If we dont put someone opposite of Keenan who can be a threat to atleast get open once in a while vs single coverage then we can be scary down the stretch. The chiefs are a prideful team so in the first half they believed that their single coverage would shut down keenan and they paid for it dearly. In the second half they started shading their coverage to keenans side which limited him to only one catch. If it where VB instead of Tutu vs Shaun Smith for the game winner i doubt we win that game on that last play. So to answer your question yes it does make sense because smart DC’s will limit our best options on offense making other players have to beat them and newsflash, Vincent clearly has shown he isnt beating anybody.

        • Stan Zab

Yup, we lost because teams doubled Keenan and Gates. Not because the defense couldn’t stop anybody…

          • diomar espinal

We lost 16-20 to the dolphins and held the broncos to their lowest point total all season? Not to mention in both games our defense came up with crucial stops. Idk if you were aware of any of those things or not but in both games they double teamed keenan and we couldnt score the way we wanted to. But yes i guess blame the defense for those losses.

          • Stan Zab

Lol so it was Vince Browns fault we lost? That’s hilarious. Is it his fault this team is 5-6 right now? How did the defense do against the atrocious WAS team? How did the defense do against MIA who got 4!!! Total yards the week before they played the Chargers?

          • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

That is not the point. Brown has been unproductive. Why would we want to keep starting someone that is not productive? A few more points or touchdowns in key situations would have meant wins instead of losses.

          • diomar espinal

Thank you for explaining that to him Ernie.

          • Stan Zab

A few less TD passes over Cox’s head would also have won a few games…The offense is 4th overall at passing offense, the defense is 29th overall in total defense. And we are blaming the WR2 for the losses…

  • Julien Bélair

This offseason they should cut VB. At this point he is not worth of a roster spot.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

      Maybe a trade for something

      • Julien Bélair

well I don’t think we can get more than a fifth rounder

        • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

          Better than nothing

Chemistry and trust are hard things to come by, when it concerns your QB an WR group. Tutu an Rivers have both, the problem is the OC doesn’t. While VB has put in work in this system, it’s obvious he needs more time to figure it out, on the practice field. And Tutu needs more time with Rivers, Allen, Royal, Gates an Green to help win football games.
As I recall, “We’re going to put the best 53 on the field…continues to turn over this roster…and do whatever we feel is best for the football team…. To win games”.
I hope Coach McCoy reminds his coaches of that message.

  • Sergio Quintero

As soon as Tutu is in the game, Rivers start throwing him the ball had 2 catches in the one drive against Miami, and the one game winner in his one drive against KC. Teams will double team Allen, and bracket Gates, the chargers need more production from WR2, simple as that. Tutu should be an improvement over VB for the rest 2013, is he a solution in the future lets see what he can do with more playing time.

  • veazy

It’s nice to see people are up on Tutu now. I still remember people saying he sucked earlier this year, and not just a few people either.

  • Dave

Add Tutu to the mix of Allen, Gates, Green, Royal. There, problem solved.
