Should the Chargers Attempt To Trade For Josh Gordon?

The Chargers likely will not make a move at the trade deadline, but I did list a few players that the team could look into. One player that I failed to mention that could be a possibility is Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon. He wasn’t mentioned because we need defense. We need more depth on defense and the offense seems to be doing fine with the players that we have right now.

Before you shun the idea, think about adding another playmaker on offense. Keenan Allen is a stud. Antonio Gates is a stud. Danny Woodhead is a stud. Eddie Royal makes plays. Now add Josh Gordon onto that group. WOW.

Sometimes the best defense is a ridiculous offense. The Patriots rode that wave for a long time and Tom Telesco’s former team, the Indianapolis Colts was all about that. We have seen how a ball controlling offense that has all the potential to score can win games against top notch teams.

What would we give up for Josh Gordon? Vincent Brown and a draft pick. If they would take Vincent Brown and a 3rd, I may be really tempted to make that happen.

Brown doesn’t fit our offense any more and I bet that Norv Turner would love to have Vincent on the Browns. Gordon is a much better fit for the team and a much more explosive option on offense. Gordon has doubled the production of Brown this season and did not play in the first couple of games of the season…. and he plays for the Browns. That is the type of weapon we are looking at.

I hate giving up future draft picks, but it is worth it when you are picking up a proven commodity that has a few years on their contract at a cheap deal. Pull the trigger Tom.

I’d do VB and a 4th rounder, 3rd rounder might be a starter on Defense next season. I have hardly watched any Browns games though so I not very familiar with the guy beyond highlights.

    • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

Also I know this is waaaay early but won’t we get a comp pick or two for all the guys that signed elsewhere in the offseason? that might make me more trigger happy to pull a trade off if we have a comp pick or 2 coming our way.

      • tubbs45

I would think we would have at least two comp picks this year. But we’ll see because we got hosed last year by the comp formula…

        • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

I watched his 2012 highlight video, even with Weeden throwing to him he was quite beastly. He’s fast for a 6″3 223 guy, gotta love that size too.

On a side note if the Seahawks get Jared Allen that’s no fair.

          • afel120

Heard it was just a rumors, said seahawks only have 2 million in cap space

  • shayaaa

While I have so much love for V.Brown, I think Gordon is easily a top 10 wr in the league… I would be down.

  • jamfed

…Vincent Brown is not under preforming, he’s just not getting the ball thrown to him regularly. His positive: great route runner, his negative: not a speed guy or BIG guy. – Cleveland could really use a guy like VB more than J.Gordon, just because of precise route running (which helps in bad weather cities).
I think VB is better than what we give him credit for, and I doubt Telesco trades him.

  • afel120

Hell yeah I was waiting for you to write about this I would want this trade all the way! Dudes a bad ass and just help us go on to a play off push, and look at denver there defense sucks but there offense just over powers them! This would be a sexy pick up lol but I think the chargers already offered a trade maybe a 3rd like you said Vincent brown because a rumors said a team offfered a draft pick and a player already hopefully its us:)

  • Pels04

Id do what mr.Blanks said first….try VB and a 4th and if they bite, sweet! if not id be ok with VB and a 3rd. Gordon is a beast and thats with no one throwing to him. Imagine him with Rivers throwing to him along with all the other weapons we have on our offense.

  • tubbs45

Man that is a tough call. with a dude that is already on strike 2, Gordon has shitloads of talent, but is he a McCoy kind of guy? I don’t think he is, but from a talent stand point I’d love it. VB will get his love from Rivers I just think there is much more focus on even distribution and taking what the D gives you philosophy.

  • Daryl Peek

I like Josh Gordon but a third rounder with V. Brown is too much to give up

  • Sergio Quintero

I don’t know Telesco personality enough to know if he would make this deal, in particular if Telesco would gamble on problem child players, and give them long term deal. Clearly there is some issues with Gordon, because the Browns are willing to trade him, he’s got top 10 WR talent. If you make this deal, you have to make a long term deal for it to be value on the chargers part.

I would package VB and 4th as Blanks suggested, my thought is that Cleveland wont take it, I think VB has a future if the chargers make more of an effort to play action pass, and make him the primary 3-5 times a game to get his confidence up.

  • Michael Popowich

I’d agree with your earlier suggestions, get another play maker on defense, or possibly someone to back up Dunlap on the Oline.

  • Stefanie Smith

Rumors starting that the Broncos are seriously interested in Jared Allen.

  • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

    No thanks = )

  • bk

No, but thanks for the thought which I am sure is well intended. The team is starting to find its identity, and really beginning to gel. That is true in the running back and receiver chemistry for sure, and Brown has had his moments of significant contribution. Don’t disturb that all-important and delicate chemistry when it is on the way up. Long ways to go, and the toughest half of the schedule is before us. Don’t perform surgery at this point except on terminally ill positions. Go Chargers!
