Ryan Mathews Nominated For FedEx Ground Player Of The Week

San Diego Chargers RB Ryan Mathews has been nominated for the FedEx Ground Player of the Week. It is amazing how many guys are getting nominated for weekly awards in our part of town. Philip Rivers has already won a couple of awards for the Air Player of the Week and Keenan Allen won the award for the Offensive Rookie of the Week, now we have a ground game? Who knew?

It has been nice seeing Ryan Mathews run the ball downhill for us this season. He has been running hard and looking to destroy people at the end of runs. It actually seems like he sees some holes that he usually didn’t see. He has been making some cut backs that we all have been waiting for him to make. He still can’t make that move in the open field, but he has been regularly breaking off chunks of yards in the ground game.

He is up for the award for Ground Player of the Week. It has been nice seeing this kid put some good things together.

People talk about Rivers “comeback” year yet RM has been tearing it up also, good job to them and good job by our coaches and blockers

Mathews have been running with purpose and patience. It has been nice to see him wait for the holes to open and follow the blockers. It seemed early in the year he was trying to create his own path by plowing in head first. Maybe those jaw sessions with LT helped!

We all know about the talent RM24 has always had. We also know about the the “problems” he had, however those were under a different HC, that was suspect to not developing young players, in an offense that was easy to defend. If indeed Ryan gets a clean slate, then I’m going to look at what he does, under THIS HC.
I’m glad to see the young man get a real chance, under a real HC. He earned this nod, and the offensive line worked there butts off too.

Deserves it. Hope he gets it.
