Chargers WR Eddie Royal In Protective Boot

San Diego Chargers slot receiver Eddie Royal is not practicing today and was seen on the sideline in a protective boot. He hurt his toe on the reverse play against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. He was able to get back into the game for a little bit, but his status for Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars seems shaky.

That protective boot is back in town. Manti Te’o was wearing that boot at the beginning of the year and had to sit out the first 3 games of the season. He missed 3 games in the preseason as well.

With Royal on the sideline, Lavelle Hawkins will step in as the slot receiver on the team. Hawkins was recently signed to help with the return game and add depth to the roster. He has only been on the roster for a few weeks and is still getting adapted to his new team. He could see a lot of action though on Sunday.

Donald Butler and Chad Rinehart are both still on the sideline for the Chargers. There is no telling when either of them are going to return to the field.

The boot is back. Let’s see what Hawkins can bring.

Damn we need Butler out there, wonder if they rest him and give him the bye week to heal up. He’s not helping himself at all for his contract next season. So far he’s been below average and has caused a bunch of penalties. He’s got to be out there to earn that next contract.

He has already cost himself a lot of money, I expect the chargers to put the franchise tag on him, just to see if he can prove he can stay healthy. As they say availability is the most important ability.

I see this as a positive. Not that I want the guy hurt, but it will get Hawkins some solid action. That should really help him get adjusted to the scheme faster. And this is the perfect week to do it since it’s the most winnable game of the year. Then we get the bye. Royal can comfortably get the rest he needs and come back completely healthy. Let’s just hope he doesn’t have to sit out twice as long as expected like Manti…

Manti Te’O: “OK boot… time to put you away for good. Not going to need you anymore”.
Walking Boot (as closet closes): “I’ll be baaaaacccckkkkk”.

You know what? I thought when Manti broke up with the “protective boot”, didn’t he make it clear she was not welcome at Chargers Park? Now the boot is two-timimin with Rinehart and Royal?
