About That Chargers-Maurice Jones-Drew Trade Talk

Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk is going to open up the flood gates with this one. Florio just posted that the Jacksonville Jaguars should just have a fire sale and mentioned that the team should trade Maurice Jones-Drew over to the San Diego Chargers.

YUP… The San Diego Super Chargers!

MJD can’t rush the passer. He can’t cover a wide receiver. He can’t play outside linebacker..

BUT, how prolific would that offense be?! Ryan Mathews has been a disappointment for our offense. He can’t break loose in the open field and can not make anyone miss when he gets to the second level. There is always fear that he will put the football on the ground when he is carrying it and he is one trip away from breaking his 4th clavicle.

MJD would be an amazing player to add to the offense and it could make some sense. The Chargers have no cap room and need a ton of help on the defensive side of the football, but might as well make our offense as good as it can be while we have Philip Rivers playing like an MVP!

I definitely am off in lala land with this idea and I wouldn’t hate it at all. How can I hate the idea of adding a playmaker to an already prolific offense? I will never hate the idea of adding playmakers.

I would much rather see us make a trade with the Minnesota Vikings for Jared Allen though. I would rather us bring in some help on the defensive side of the ball.

What would it cost to bring in MJD? He is in the final year of his contract and the Jaguars likely would not be able to keep him around. I wouldn’t want to give up more than a 4th round pick for him.

He is coming back from a Lisfranc injury and hasn’t proven that he can run the football. He has a terrible team around him, but that 2.4 yard average is frightening.

That would be sweet, but it would be a bad move. We can’t afford to give up any draft picks we need to build our defense next year. And we won’t be able to keep him. We don’t have enough cap space to sign a top teir free agent running back. I hate to say it, but we are stuck with the running backs we have right now.

  • Stefanie Smith

Rather go for the bone breaker – Jared Allen.

  • Cgoodness13

For what though? We have holes to fill in the depth chart and we need all our current draft picks to help fill them, our running game is not to bad so I don’t really see the point, both Mathews and Woodhead have been working their tales off and getting us some yards and TD’s. And if we are going to be talking to the Vikings about anything it should be about getting a interview for Brendan Daly to be our new D coordinator.

  • Cgoodness13

On a side note, we need to try to extend Rineharts contract, I personally think he’s our best Olineman and he’s only signed to a 1 year.

  • Sergio Quintero

Defense has to be the priority for any trade, be it Jarius Byrd, Jared Allen, Justin Tuck, Mathias Kiwanuka, Lamar Woodley.

Running game is good enough, its keeping defenses honest at a respectable 105 yards per game, pass defense has not been respectable.

    • Ernie Padaon

      BYRD!!! PLEASE!!!!

  • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

Is Jared Allen being shopped or something?

  • RZ

We don’t need another running back…a good pass rusher would be nice though.

  • arnie

Honestly Ernie, we should pull an Michael Turner. Wait, till his contract expires, then offer a contract with the allure of playing for a “winning” team.

  • joerockt

Naaaa. We need to get Mathews traded now while he still has no broken bones and hasn’t coughed up the football, as of late. Get a 2nd or 3rd round for him and hope a good pass rusher can get picked up with that.

    • Ernie Padaon

if we could get a 2nd or 3rd for him, i would jump for joy!

  • Santee Jack

MJD has a 2.4 yards/rush, 138 Rushing Yards Total and 25 Receiving Yards

Matthews 3.5 yards/rush, 226 Rushing Yards Total and 66 Receiving Yards

    You really would want MJD?

    • boltingindiego

stats are misleading in this case look at the jags offense compared too ours.

  • Afel120

Everyone says we need this or that but deep down in our chargers hearts all of you would be jumping for joy if we got jones drew shoot I would no matter if we need a running back or not I would buy his jersey in a hot minute!

  • Will

Mojo would make this team great again. Any of u who disagree or don’t want mojo are straight up idiots who know nothing about football. Period. I’d go crazy if we got him, but god forbid telesco would grow a pair and make it happen.

    • Ernie Padaon

Why does all of your comments have to say that people are idiots if they don’t agree with you?

    • joerockt

Did you happen to catch the part where the Jags aren’t interested in trading him? MJD is an old man by RB standards. No draft pick would be worth bringing him here anyway. Pull your head out.

I would love to add MJD. But he’s 28 years old and has been dealing with injuries the last few years. As good as he is, his body might be already starting to break down. He has been the only offensive threat on that team for years now and he has been carrying the load. What does he have left I’m the tank? I rather we try and trade for Hayden.

I really wished we went after Monroe. That’s why Ozzie is such a good GM.

A lot will disagree with me here because of his recent incidents. But I think we should go after Aldon Smith.

  • Dave

Against the Cowboys, there was one play where Mathews had the outside run wide open to the left but cut it inside for a few yards. Sometimes his vision is just lacking.

    • Ernie Padaon

i know the exact play… he could have picked up 15 on that play easy

  • OP Bolt

Sorry Earnie – I would just let Mike Florio flap his jaws. I agree that RM is not now, and will never be the back we wanted/expected, but he is good enough for right now. We have real issues in multiple other areas. I think the Bolts are going to win some games this year that will surprise some folks. However, I don’t think we are serious contenders this year, so I don’t currently see any good long term ROI for trading draft picks for players. In fact, I wish we had enough depth to do what the Browns did, so we could double down in next year’s draft.
