Raiders QB Terrelle Pryor Will Start vs Chargers

Oakland Raiders QB Terrelle Pryor will be starting this weekend against the Chargers. Pryor was close to returning last week against the Washington Redskins, but the team played it safe and let him take a week off without contact. That seems like it would have been the best decision for Pryor.

Pryor suffered a concussion against the Denver Broncos when Wesley Woodyard had a helmet-to-helmet hit on him. Pryor didn’t remember much after the hit.

He is back at practice today taking the first team reps and is prepared for action. He will present a problem for the San Diego Chargers running the ball. He has the ability to escape the pocket and pick up big yards on the ground. Titans QB Jake Locker burned us by churning out yards on the ground in week 2. Hopefully the Chargers are better prepared for that this time around.

Without Dwight Freeney on the field chasing after the quarterback, it could give the Chargers even more issues. At least Manti will be running around in the middle.

Guess he doesn’t have too much Drain Brammage, after all.

He is a slippery little cuss. We weren’t having much problem getting Locker flushed out of the pocket on the right side.. just nobody was there to minimize the damage, and contain him on the left. Who’s job is that? Liuget, the OLB, and whatever Linebacker is in the area? Whoever is responsible for that left side needs to get their business straight, because Pryor is faster, and more elusive than Locker. Even Vick scored on that same side. I hope we don’t have a game like we did against Campbell a few years ago, where he bootlegged the crap out of us in our own house. That was embarrassing. SMH. They simply can’t overlook this opponent, no matter how many think the Raiders are an easy win, and have injuries. They kept the Colts, and the Skins honest. They aren’t the Jags (who they beat), and the only team to blow em’ totally out so far is Denver.. which they are blowing everyone out.

Te’o. What we missed in the titans and eagles games was Te’o. If i’m not mistaken, romo made that first down slide when he was out and was sacked when he was in.

I’ve always noticed the Chargers have trouble stopping mobile QBs. I remember Jason Campbell picked up several first downs on scrambles alone when he replaced Bruce Gradkowski some time back. This is something that always bothers me about the Chargers defense.

I believe the key to beat Pryor is to pressure and contain him all, let him pass the ball but keep him inside the pocket at all times. I don’t think he’s polished enough to read defenses and search for the open man, and relying more on ground skills ala RG3. This has to be a W for the Bolts.
