Chargers LB Manti Te’o Injury Status

Everyone wants to know if Manti Te’o will be in the lineup to help out the guys on defense. He was supposed to be a big part of the makeover, but he has not been on the field since the first preseason game. It is almost certain that Manti will be out on the field this week in front of the home crowd against the Dallas Cowboys.

There are a ton of other injured players that we will be waiting for their status on also, but it sure seems that Manti will make his debut on Sunday. The Chargers defense will take all the help that they can get. They have not looked good this season and are ranked 31st in the league in that department at this point. It has been a mess.

    finally….
i mean the 2 ILBs are the most vital part and its what makes your 3-4 scheme work
when your best player is sitting and gatchkar is replacing him, and when an impact player is replaced by bird, a duo of gathckar and bird just isnt going to be able to work in a 3-4
lets see if teo can impress
    another thing is leadership
when we let spikes go, we lost leadership and if teo can fill that void that is wayyy more important than many anticipate
    chargers pull it out 38-31
    BOLT UP!!

I think it was more Reggie Walker and Gachkar playing the 2 LB spots. I don’t think that either guy hurt their status as a backup but we need our starters. Having both out is not good for this defense.

Agreed. Reggie got a sack and he played well, so that’s more than the others have shown me. Gachkar has always been someone were could turn to on special teams. At the end of the day i was never concerned about the depth on this team, i’m just looking for the starters to step up right now.

I think Reggie is a Solid backup. Gachkar should be solely on special teams

            Hey somebody had to play.

            I was ready…

Gachkar made a couple good plays too. Let’s not discount that. He is a decent back-up, as long as at least ONE of the starters is playing. When both starting MLB’s are out, you struggle no matter what.. unless you have exemplary depth.

I think he’ll have a tough time shedding blockers in the nfl. Looking forward to seeing him in action finally

I think he will acclimate and learn how to shed blockers but that will take time too.

    • arnie

Shedding blockers he wil learn, but that was never his problem. He makes his reads and attacks the hole the play will go to, just like he did in college. What he’s learned, is the Runner can bounce out, or back in. and being able to anticipate that will take time.

Being realistic… the guy had a few snaps in one preseason game. Let’s not get too high for his performance. At this point, he may not even be as up to speed as Reggie Walker but you have to throw him into the fire. I’m hoping that by mid season, we have something there. Missing the reps in the preseason for a rookie, no matter how good he was in college is an uphill climb. Hopefully, his instincts will keep him in the flow of things.

    • arnie

Being realistic, Manti will probably be dropping into coverage and plug some holes against the run. This is a duty that Weddle has been covering for. And for that reason alone, that will free up Weddle to cover over the top, and leave Either Taylor/ Addae to give support in the run. I don’t expect him to be SUPERMAN, just do his job.

        Good point

Excellent point, Arnie. Even if his play is rusty in spots, he is going to be a fiery dood after being sidelined. I want to see him getting the guys, and the crowd fired up on the field… if not by being vocal, then at least by playing with a chip on his shoulder. I want to see that crazy tribal look on his face!!!! That kind of thing rubs off on other players. We need that on the defensive side of the ball immediately. Especially since the starters don’t seem to have that kind of attitude in place at this time. It’s a domino effect.
