Chargers Depth Issues Rearing It’s Ugly Head

The issue of depth is rearing it’s ugly head all over us right now. Injuries have bit us right in the butt and we have to rely on players like Reggie Walker, Bront Bird, Andrew Gachkar, a corner that was picked up off the streets just 4 days before game day, random water boys and the time keeper. Things are not looking pretty when we have to go that far onto the bench.

We need our health in order to compete this season and the game against Tennessee was rough. We had a mess at offensive line. We had a mess all over our defense. We had a mess everywhere we looked and we didn’t help ourselves out with some of the play calling and mistakes that we made.

We aren’t going to have depth this season. We aren’t going to sign a bunch of guys right now that can help the issue. We have to hope for health. When we find a way to win games without our top guys out there, WE NEED TO WIN!

passing-wise, i thought our line was solid. thought whiz could have called more pass plays on the second to last drive…

right… that killed me! let’s go for the win and stop trying to hold on

    • boltingindiego

if the left guard didn’t hold we were fine since it would have been 3rd and 2. BUt on that same play dunlap got hurt with an concussion and we had 4 back ups playing at LT, LG, RG, RT position.

      • davacho

play to win. those guys are all professionals- whiz could have called a quick woodhead out or something to convert… may be tougher without starters, but that is a weak excuse. i hope we get healthy quick.

play to win if you cant trust your d to stop a team with no to’s and drive 93 yards with 2:05 against the titans you deserve to lose.

          • davacho

that’s kind of my point… your secondary has been blowing ass the past 2.9 games- rivers has been a model of accuracy (even on 3rd downs)- roll with what’s working… we don’t trust secondary so why put them in a do or die when we KNOW they have to throw the hell out of it against us for the win? lots of badness on both sides of the ball, but i think coaches need to adapt in game and go with the hot hand, shame on the players for not executing, but let’s give whiz credit for the loss as well.

we weren’t lighting it up in the 2nd half very much and 3rd on 10 with 4 back ups on the o-line i would rather call a run and either make them use their to and or 2 min warning and then punt. If we id call a pass and it was an incomplete people would say why didn’t you run the ball in that situation. its damn if you do or damn if you don’t if the boltz didn’t convert on that 3rd down play.

Still can’t wrap my brain around not throwing at least once or twice in that last series… WTH…

    • Jordan Denning

Watching the Donks/Faders game tonight, Peyton was still throwing the ball with about 4 minutes left and a 23 point lead. McCoy should take some notes from his old team….

  • Tazzster

We are going to have to outscore people and hope that the ‘bend but don’t break’ defense continues to hold opposing teams to FGs.
Looking ahead we are going to need to draft some defensive playmakers in the early rounds next year …. unfortunately I think we also need to pick up a RB.

    • Trey P

      sign tate or jones drew

  • Joel Ayala

All in All. it’s a rebuilding year. any way we look at it. IMO. this isn’t the squad they wanted. but this is the hand they were dealt. at this rate RM Larry English and many others will be gone next year so TT and MM can put there stamp on this team. so I’m gonna not expect too much just yet. just my opinion to ease my mind.

    • Trey P

we can keep those players for depth lol

      • Joel Ayala

I know right… I can’t stand his shit. but what can we do.

      • tubbs45

        Hahahahaha

    • Stefanie Smith

They made trades and got rid of players already, replacing them with others. Their stamps is already on this team. However, they are limited as to what they can do as it pertains to the cap and the salaray cap impact from the Gaithers deal and Meachem deal.

  • Cgoodness13

The biggest depth problem I see is in the defensive coaching staff

  • tubbs45

Not having T Williams available and butler suiting up was a wasted spot in the line up. Rookie move coach.

  • S.Bolt

Sign Lavelle Hawkins to add depth @ receiver. Is a electrifying player who also helps on kick off return. With Floyd out we have 4 receivers one being a rookie who is still learning & the other has been a practice squad player most of his short carrier. Dean needs to step up & show the fans you are trying to make the team better.

  • Cgoodness13

Can TT fire Pagano or is it up to McCoy? Though I’m sure McCoy would fire Pagano if TT told him to

    • arnie

      That is McCoys call.

  • Michael Popowich

We need to win this game Sunday, hopin we get some guys back. Rivers needs to score like crazy vs Romo.
