Chargers Sign CB Crezdon Butler

The San Diego Chargers signed journeyman defensive back Crezdon Butler. Butler has been shuffling around a bunch of teams, but at least the guys up top have noticed the need of help in the secondary. Not sure if Butler will help out in the secondary, but he will be someone who we try to plug-in and get some production out of.

Why not bring in more people and see if they work out? If they are not any good, then we just drop him and bring in some other dude to try to fill the hole.

Butler is a 6-foot tall corner out of Clemson. He probably played in the secondary with Marcus Gilchrist in college. He has already been part of 5 different franchises in his career. He was drafted in the 5th round in 2010. In his career he has 4 tackles and one forced fumble. Yup… FOUR.

Kinda hoping we take a shot at signing Kerry Rhodes, he’s 6″3 210 and doesn’t play like Gilchrist.

That would be awesome!!! I saw an article about him on BFTB this morning. For the record, I wrote that article about three months ago (and people say Bolt Beat uses their sloppy seconds… AS IF!!! J/K). People shot me down pretty good on here, and said Gilly was their man (and Jammer at that point). Still a great idea, but the New York Giants will probably be the team that is smart enough to sign him now.. he’s there today, supposedly.

Here is what I wrote back on June 1st… See, people think ole’ Pete is crazy, and doesn’t know what he’s talking about… but, I get it right every once in a while.. hahaha. Pay particular attention to what I said about Weddle being able to ballhawk, and Taylor (who is still on the sideline) having time to rest. Here’s what I wrote:

“Kerry Rhodes: Rhodes is 30 year old Free Safety. However, at 6′ 3 & 212 pounds… he could easily play strong safety. The acclaimed Ex-New York Jet veteran was released by the Arizona Cardinals back in March. In 2012, Rhodes had 58 tackles, 9 assists, 4 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles, and defended 11 passes. To put a comparison on it, Atari Bigby only had one more combined tackle, and put up goose-eggs in the sack, interception, and forced fumble categories. Not to mention, he only registered 3 defended passes. Clearly, this would be an immediate upgrade. If he could be signed to a one year contract, this would give Taylor plenty of time to recover, could be a better mentor than Bigby was, and would give Weddle the freedom to ball-hawk the backfield! He may have to settle for the veteran minimum, as he hasn’t drawn any attention in free agency. As I said earlier, he would solve the safety, and cornerback dilemma in one swoop. There have been some allegations of Kerry being gay, after a video submerged of him being (presumably) spotted with his “lover”. Rhodes denies the allegations that he is gay. Personally, I couldn’t care less. If he can play better than Gilchrist, then he would be a welcome alternative over Atari “bite on the play action” Bigby.”
Take THAT BFTB… hahahaha… sloppy seconds..sheesh. People need to stay in their lane ; )

Yeah.. some peeps don’t like to hear it, but … whatevs.. lol.

Hey it is what it is. But you were correct. This signing shows they need to free up Weddle for the field, however the problem still remains, Weddle is still covering for the defense. I still think Pete, signing Jammer to SS for one year would have been the best option. He knows he defense, has great communication with Weddle. Knows when the CB need help over the top, can cover the TE an RB over the middle, and is a hard hitting tackler. Not to mention he would be a great mentor to Taylor and the other young CB. All the while giving Weddle the freedom to ballhawk.

If I knew they were going to go with this plan, I would have voted to keep Jammer, too. We keep getting burned over the middle at an alarming rate. I assumed they were going to address it later on in FA. But, you are correct.. it is what it is. 4 INT’s & 2 forced fumbles last year would be a nice addition, though… shoot, I would even be cool with Bigby coming back if this keeps up, and that was really hard for me to say… hahaha

    SUPER BOWL BOUND, SON.

“In his career he has 4 tackles and one forced fumble. Yup… FOUR.”

Maybe he’s so shutdown that’s all he had a chance for? lolz

    • Gunnar Martin

      You know dats right! lol

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

      Haha

    • RussinSactown

Don’t even throw that way. Credson is out there man!

  • Gunnar Martin

Well he’s either just gonna be put on the inactive list for insurance in case of an injury or he was picked up to start on special teams. Playing him on STs might actually be a good thing for the secondary too because then one of our starters on D like Wright or Weddle wouldn’t have to play on the kickoffs too. Gives them some extra rest, which might make them play a little better at their real positions.

    • joerockt

The fact that Weddle is in on ST speaks volumes to our depth…

      • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

right… and i think he makes every dang tackle on special teams

  • Rob Base

Who the f*** is that dude? Only 4 tackles wow!

  • joerockt

I like London Fletcher’s look in the background in that pic. He’s all like: “Damn, Crezdon can BALL SON.”

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

      hahahahha… truth

  • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

IS the picture above one of his 4 tackles?I gots to know

  • I_Bleed_Powder_Blue_801

Isn’t this the guy some were talking about SD should pick up? Potentially
how good or bad is this pick up??

  • I_Bleed_Powder_Blue_801

C’mon guys, TT would not pick this guy up if he did not see potential….

    • joerockt

      He picked up Starks.

      • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

That was a good one. Signing a guy on name alone is a big no no lol

      • RussinSactown

And he let him go before he got Rivers killed. That’s a step up from AJ’s normal “It’ll work. Don’t question my genius!” approach!

        • I_Bleed_Powder_Blue_801

true, it’s tough, bc who is out there worth picking up??SD will be lucky to find any gems right now…

      • I_Bleed_Powder_Blue_801

he also cut him…but U got a point..

  • tubbs45

The kid has some wheels… 4.3 40. lets give him a shot, cant be much worse in coverage…

  • arnie

    Special Team help.

  • shane

@joerockt…do u ever have anything positive to say?

  • Daryl Peek

Why not grab the younger Jamell Fleming? Kerry Rhodes is a proven talent but how would he be received by his peers given current allegations? Do we want that distraction in our locker room? The catfish buffoonery is bad enough. *looking*

    • JoseSD

      Someone already signed Fleming

  • Alter Ego

Mathews, Butler, Stuckey, and Cam Thomas all came out of the same draft class. The fact that 5 teams all have said he is worthy of being a pro football player makes his addition more credible. He is tall with quick wheels – looks like our GM is playing chess …making moves…working on Denver…I don’t know what I don’t know – but I like TT….a lot.
